Skaters have an interesting way of considering time. Spots and tricks come and go, never to be thought of again, but certain fleeting, life-affirming moments captured on video get imbued in amber and entire generations of a scene revolve around them. Meanwhile, lifecycles of content, personalities, and products live and die in a matter of months. Way back in 2023 – one of those lifetimes in the skateboard landscape – we covered the baseball game release party of Rowan’s last shoe. We spoke with Rowan about a few topics including the tricks he did on his favorite double-set, considering the video a sort of mini “Favorite Spot,” with plans to do something longer form with him in the future.
Blink and it’s been three years since. A lot has changed – with skateboarding, the world, and Rowan.
Rowan himself promoting his Z3 Vans pro model while recovering from a torn ACL and recently becoming a new father. In the middle of all this (or perhaps because of it?), the opportunity to make-do on our loose promise to shoot a more involved thing arose. When you’re hurt, time becomes a whole different thing, its passage slowing to excruciating levels. It seemed like a perfect opportunity for the pilot of a potential (if anyone else is down to hang) new series. Consider this a nod to the classic 411 “Day In The Life” format that every other platform has been riffing on for decades, but we specifically check in on skaters when they’re not able to (or don’t want to) …skate.
Speaking of time, it’s been nine years since Chris Nieratko’s “Skaters in Cars” with Rowan. The statute of limitations is up on that, right?
