Don’t Tell ‘Em: QS Best of 2014

dj mustard

Not since the Neptunes has a single producer completely dominated every facet of musical life the way Mustard has these past 12-24 months. It felt only right that our annual recycled footage wrap-up acknowledge his works of one-key brilliance. It probably isn’t sustainable long-term, but thank you Dijon, for a very enjoyable 2014.

…and yeah, had to edit it to one non-Dijon exception. 2014 will without a doubt be remembered as Mustard’s year — even Drake seemed less relevant by comparison — but there was one tune that cut through all the yellow, and got right to the heart of all our problems. It even helped you forget that it was sung by a total piece of shit, at least for a few minutes. Shouts out to T-Bird for help on da mix.

  1. Maybe the funniest thing of the year has been Americans trying to wear that Palace Adidas stuff. It’s so inherently European (esp. British) it just looks ridiculous

  2. don’t get me wrong I love QS but I don’t feel I can be repping something so specifically New York. globalisation though innit

  3. You’re missing the point. Sportswear is so much a part of European & British culture on a level waaaay above skateboarding, Americans wearing it is weird especially the football stuff. You don’t really see anyone in Europe wearing anything related to American sports except for wannabe thug guys in Basketball jerseys.

Just seems wierd to me personally

  4. peewee- sort of see what you mean, but american sport culture has for sure influenced british clothing, mid 90s was rife with chicago bulls and raiders jackets and hats, leather sports jackets,3/4 baseball shirts. none of that stuff has any bearing on british culture but it was all the rage at school.
that said, ive always wondered what americans made of the joggy bottom being a british staple. in the usa joggys appear to be resereved for rappers (if in xxxl) or for jock college students and no one else.

  5. i think josh kalis is enough of case for swishy pants (joggy bottoms) being part of american skateboarding

definitely ran some 4star ones for a minute in 97 or so

  6. Don’t forget that track pants and track suits have always been part of american street style. That stuff may seem english and european to you, but it has been a hip hop fashion since the early eighties. Run DMC, Rock Steady Crew, LL Cool J, and on and on ad infinitum.

This latest incarnation is clearly coming from Europe, mostly England, but like almost everything, it probably started here first.

But yes hipster skaters wearing track suits cause of Palace is funny. I miss my Roc-A-Wear track suit.

  7. NIGGAS BEEN WEARING TRACK SUITS AND TEAR AWAY PANT,S FAM. I GUESS Y’ALL FORGOT ABOUT THE FUCKING 80’S. YOU PROLLY ALSO THINK BRITISH NIGGAS INVENTED HOUSE MUSIC, ROCK & ROLL, AND SLICED BREAD.

  8. Why are yall even talking about sweatpants? Peewee thought you were on 1017 not a vogue writer. second best qs edit after the Puig one though!
