There’s this video of Kenny Anderson and Vincent Alvarez skating Lenox Ledges (Antony Correa cameo!), and yes, Kenny footage is always a pleasure, but there’s only one bit of Lenox footage from the past week that anyone was talking about. Good lord.

Trife alumnus, Black Dave Willis, has a new part live on the Thrasher site entitled “NYBD.” Gap to front blunt on the out ledge across from World Trade is a wild one.

NY Skateboarding posted part one of apparently a three-part series of video interviews with Keith Hufnagel. This one talks about meeting Keenan Milton, the infamous Ryan Hickey house that housed all homeless skateboarders of the era, moving to San Francisco, skating Embarcadero, etc.

Gotta #respect a ten-minute Boston video that doesn’t hit Eggs once. Not easy. “Mean Streets Volume 2,” A.K.A. the LurkNYC boys go to Boston.

The QS Sports Desk didn’t have a horse in the playoff race, but it’s pretty obvious that this Cleveland title is both A) the closest New Jersey will ever come to winning a title thanks to Freehold’s J.R. Smithony, West Orange’s Kyrie Irvings, and the back-to-back Finals appearances New Jersey Nets’ Richard Jefferson, and B) the closest the New York Knicks will ever come to winning a title because we now live in a world where Timofey Mozgovonzsky and Iman Shumpert’s hair are NBA Champions. (It’s still fuck Dan Gilbert forever though.) Last night and Game 7 OKC-GSW were the two best basketball games of all time :) lol Melo.

ANYWAY, been pretty bad at updating lately, huh? Should be back to normal programming this week. Sremmlife 2 is delayed and we’re devastated.

Yaje has a new part out for Venture, where he brings the 2000s back super hard by ending it off with a trick over the Grant’s Tomb four-stair ledge instead one of the banked ledges. Shout out to Ja$onwear x infinity.

“I don’t think we ever really thought of who we were writing for, we did what we wanted to do and what we liked.” Yet another interview about the Big Brother book, but all of them have been pretty great and strangely echo a lot of what’s going on in skateboarding now. (QS review of Shit here btw.)

ON THAT SAME NOTE, you’ve no doubt heard plenty old #oldheads talking about how skating is in some circle (bro) and history repeating itself phase right now a la the post-Bones Brigade era, and while everything it discusses was before my time…thoroughly enjoyed this new Ron Chatman interview about his early career days. “I never did three flips because that was Jason’s shit. I never did impossibles or heelflips because Ed did them. You couldn’t do it better than that.”

Boil the Ocean tackles the growing conspiracy that big shoe companies are deliberately flooding the market with small skateboard brands to dilute the resonance of small shoe brands, or something along the lines of skateboarding’s version of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? I dunno man.

Transworld was feeling the Non Fiction 2k16 vibes, and picked up LurkNYC’s New York Times outtakes series for their website. Good God that backside flip…

You Was Just Another Ledge on the Hitlist

You better wake up and act like nothing’s wrong.

Though analytics, Facebook likes and retweets weren’t particularly in flames for our research-heavy Houston Park post, it hit where it needed to hit the most: the streets.

The ensuing weeks resulted in comments and opinions from people at bars, skate spots, and around the QS office watercooler. The influence was also felt in that three consecutive days last week were spent at Houston Park — not just on its always #ontrend slew of construction-turned-skate obstacles — but inside its cast iron perimeter. We even skated the ledge for the first time since like 2004!

Bonus Genny line because anyone who skates Three Up Three Down as a Three Down, Three Up, Three Down deserves a special nod :)

The streets’ comments on the aforementioned Houston Park post also pointed out that the best trick on the bad ledge there was actually done by Billy Rohan — an omission on our part that is as embarrassing as forgetting Geo Moya on the “Greatest Noseslides of All-Time” list. In fact, much of the best New York skateboarding of the early 2000s occurred in this forgotten Rec Shop TV promo.

Just as many Americans are still recovering from 2008’s financial meltdown, skateboarding is apparently still reeling from the collapse of Alien Workshop 1.0, as evidenced in Yaje Popson’s latest interview with Transworld, and Jake Johnson’s [extended] one with Thrasher. Also note to anyone about to log off and head to D7: “I think I really messed my body up jumping down stuff when I was younger and my body was still growing. If I could give advice I’d say don’t jump down stuff until you’re older.”

Following the first 60-degree Sunday of 2016, noseslide 270 shuv outs have not gained any momentum at a projected resurgence. However, Ron Deily makes a good case for lowbrow frontside 270 out of noseslide tech in the new Zoo in S.F. clip.

Thrasher recently entered the arena of YouTube comps with a five-minute compilation of the greatest handrail tricks, but shouldn’t Gonz’s boardslide down the Banks 9 + his 5050 and front board down the [defunct] 8th & Greene Street rail from the (1986?) Vision video be the first thing? Weren’t those supposedly the first handrail tricks? Is the idea of handrail skating being born in New York akin to pointing out that Christopher Columbus didn’t actually discover America?!

Just realized this QS feature from a year-old issue of Acclaim mag is online. Was kinda the blueprint / draft for the intro of the actual Quartersnacks book.

You likely caught it already, but Yaje went on a tear for his welcome part to the resuscitated AWS. (Yes, he’s still alive.) Malfa also posted all the photos from Yaje’s interview in this month’s TWS, although you’ll have to grab the issue for the text.

Pretty much all Morningside Heights + Harlem spots in this Mikey Perdomo remix part by Bluecouch NY, which is refreshing to see. Surprised more people don’t try barging a lot of the stuff on the Columbia campus beyond the bank-to-ledge. Ollie over the wall at Morningside School was a pretty wild and unexpected one too ;)

Said it before, but Tom Knox’s Vase section is probably the most re-watched video part around here since Reider’s Gravis comeback. For those just getting up to speed, Sidewalk gave a complete rundown of his video part history. (A notable early-30s nosegrind technician recently told me he preferred the 11th Hour part, so…) Thrasher also just went live with all his Vase extras and raw files. We’d remix it, but nothing on the new Boosie goes well with British skateboarding.

Bobshirt has a fifteen-minute video interview with Long Island legend and owner-of-a-famous-nose, Frank Gerwer. They talk about board graphics, Wallenburg, first trips to the Banks, etc. FYI: The Number Nine part he mentions can be found here. It has a good bit of cool early-90s midtown footage.
