Merry Christmas

east 73rd st

Merry Christmas everybody. Here’s our annual mostly midtown / Christmas light footage / non-rap clip. Comes complete with two backpack lines and more tricks on three/four stair handrails than ever before. “I done seen everything today!”

In case you guys didn’t know, during annual Christmas music research for this clip, the fact that the Ying Yang Twins have a Christmas album came to light. Needless to say, it’s incredible. At least for the first minute or so. (Here’s another good one.)

Features: Alexander Mosley, Black Dave A.K.A. Black Santa, Tyshawn Jones, TJ’s homie (sorry for not getting your name), Gavin Nolan, Eli Reed, Josh Velez, Ritch Swain, Roctakon, Pad Dowd, Ty Lyons, Tyler Tufty, Dustin Eggeling, Keith Denley, Sweet Waste, Pryce Holmes, Pat Edge, Torey Goodall, Brendan Carroll, Matthew Mooney, Jack Sabback, Kevin Tierney, Brian Clarke, and Andre Page.

Contributing filmers: Joe Bressler, Jeff Ricker, Andre Page, Josh Velez. Thank you.

Alternate YouTube Link. Just an FYI for mobile users: YouTube will *not* play the video on iPhones, etc. because of third party content (i.e. uncleared music.) It should, however, work on Vimeo. YouTube poorly words their disable notice by making it seem like the uploader is preventing it for mobile playback as opposed to the company who owns the music.

This is the eighth one. In case you haven’t been keeping up, here are some relevant links to past Christmas clips: 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005.

Hurricane Sandy Links

Rest in Peace Reggie Destin. Reggie’s friends are continuing their fundraiser to cover hospital costs and services. Sam McGuire and Joe Hammeke, two midwest-based photographers, are selling prints of skate photos for the same cause. (This shot of a back tail on the Sundial Ledges in Chicago is great.) Our friend Martin Davis is also printing a run of the original Push Skateshop tees to raise money.

Austyn Gillette and friends skating around New York in this last minute (and extremely saturated) entry to the “Summer in New York” clip cycle.

Skateboarder posted an interview with Chris Keefe about DQM’s collaboration with Cliché. It includes a bunch of photos by Jonathan Mehring.

Whoa, a Corey Rubin sighting AND a Loose Trucks Max sighting in the same clip?

Some young kids shredding cutty spots. Anyone born post-1990 and still skating the best material / worst ground State Building ledge gets extra points.

Blacking out on 4Loko (#trendwatch2009?), and Luis Tolentino and Rob Gonyon skating those two skateparks in Queens.

A lifestyley clip of skating in Harlem, unsurprisingly set to Big L. At first, it seemed appropriate to point skateboarders in the direction of this Rap & R&B section on the “People from Harlem” Wikipedia page, but it doesn’t include Charly Wingate (or G. Dep), so consider it useless.

The Skateboard Mag re-posted a New York article with the Stereo team from 2009.

Our friend Stephen McClintock’s photo show, “Happiness is Expensive,” is supposed to have its closing reception tonight from 6 to 10 P.M. Click here for the flyer. As you could imagine, it is weather-dependent. Todd Jordan interviewed him over on The Heavy Mental.

The NBA season starts back up tomorrow. James “I Disappeared from the 2012 Finals” Harden got traded to the Houston Rockets, thus ending any sort of QS Sports Desk pipe dream scenario where the Bulls amnesty Carlos Boozer and somehow end up with Harden, or Oklahoma extends Harden’s contract and trades Westbrook for a guard who actually passes to the best scorer in the NBA (ideally Rondo, but you know, these are mere fantasies.) Brace yourself for a sportswriter’s dream / New York fan’s nightmare of a Lakers-Heat Final. In other news, 50% of the Knicks roster is already hurt, and Jeremy Evans had the best play of the pre-season.

Quote of the Week: “It’s fun…as opposed to boring.” — Torey Goodall

Good luck with this Hurricane Sandy mess. Here’s our “Ten Hurricanes Better Than Hurricane Irene” post from last year, which could easily be re-applied to Sandy.

Let You Have It Behind a Raiders Starter Jacket

Lil’ Boosie was found not guilty on Friday. He’s still serving a maximum sentence of eight years for unrelated charges. DGB says his people claim he’ll be out in 12-18 months. Thankfully, he’s one dude who we don’t have to worry about signing to some garbage rap conglomerate when he gets out.

It would be great if The New York Times never ever ever wrote about skateboarding again. (This article from 2004 was cool though.)

Frozen in Carbonite dwells on parallels between soldiers and skaters, whether or not Jimmy Darmody from Boardwalk Empire would’ve skated in mid-’10s central Jersey, Heller’s Catch 22, the prospect of banging nurses on some Italian beach during WWII, an A-Team resurgence, Katy Perry, and other stuff.

The Feelin’ Friendly video premieres at House of Vans this Thursday, May 17th, at 9 P.M. Flyer here, trailer here, throwaway clip with a 2 Chainz verse here.

World renown partyboy skater, Torey Goodall, has some footage in this clip of a Huf Footwear trip to Montreal.

This ramp on Craigslist definitely looks like a steal for $100.

Here’s Dan Carreiro’s part from the KCDC video. More tranny-based than the others. Link to Pierce’s part here, and the rest of the parts here, so it’s all pretty much online.

Skateboarders love Big L so much, that he’s the only rapper whose radio freestyles they’ll use for video part songs.

Not only did they knob the Up Rails on the west side, but they found another effective skateboard deterrent for the spot by throwing horse shit in front of it. Horse Shit: Cheaper Than Installing Knobs & Twice As Effective.

Jeremy Lin is on a familiar downward slope of New York life, which may eventually spit him out as a bar-back at Dark Room or something.

Speaking of Starter jackets (and Asians and the Knicks), Ping from Seinfeld (the Chinese delivery guy) has an ill Knicks one.

Quote of the Week:

You ever did a little dirt and it came back a little worse?

What the hell is going on?

First of all…28 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals from a Chinese Harvard graduate who apparently likes blue Gatorade and is being paid $200K on a team with three guys getting $15mil+. Did the Mayans predict this? Maybe the world is ending.

Chinese dude putting up Derrick Rose numbers.

Then, a day later, we find out there’s a song with E-40, 2 Chainz, and Juicy J all on it. Did the Mayans predict that?

Four .gifs on one page. This is deliberately a bad Tumblr page right now because the world might be ending.

See You At The Parade

To think that only a month ago, we were claiming we wouldn’t mention the NFL for a few years. Congratulations to the New York Giants. The Knicks are never winning anything (especially when you need 25 points & 7 assists from a Chinese Harvard graduate to beat the Nets…), so perhaps we should direct our local sports radar beyond basketball.

In other Super Bowl / Skate-Related News: Fred Gall wins the Dobbin Block Super Bowl squares pool, Paul Rodriguez does what is presumably one of history’s more expensive switch flips for a Samsung commercial (@ 0:56), Mixtape star and circa-1997 “King of Style,” Peter Bici, informs close friends that “Boston sucks” immediately after New York’s victory, and Gucci Mane declares the trap’s comeback. Does anyone go to U Mass? You guys didn’t handle the loss too well, huh?

The most interesting post-Super Bowl development? Cam’ron resurrects the nearly three-year-old Cousin Bang project for a special Super Bowl edition. He still insists that the full-length movie is coming soon (original trailer here.)

Paulgar put together a six-minute montage from the late-Autumn era featuring Jake Johnson, Ted Barrow, Kevin Tierney, Brian Delatorre, and other QS-favorites. Some of the footage is previously unseen. All shot in/around New York, minus a few Miami clips from that awful “short film” Paul made starring Lemony Snicketts.

To answer our own question from a few months ago about when skaters will get tired of editing videos to songs off Jeru the Damaja’s The Sun Rises in the Eastnot anytime soon.

Fresh off the demise of the Santa Monica Sand Gaps, Los Angeles loses another iconic skate spot (one that actually deserves to be a famous skate spot.) The Department of Water & Power Benches are knobbed.

The Shit U Not blog offers a tour through a classic Big Brother issue (#22). Andy Roy on the cover, Gino Iannucci interview, a Chris Keefe Capital Skateboards ad, and other varying points of interest.

The official video “Got One” by 2 Chainz just dropped, and it’s easy to say that the Torey Goodall version does the song way more justice.

The forecast for tomorrow promises “near record high temperatures.” If only every February had multiple 50-degree days.
