End of the Summer / Labor Day Weekend 2014 Clip

gucci

When I die, bury me inside the Gucci store…but like actually.

It’s that time of year again. This one is a little different because it includes a quick Euro interlude from our time in Paris and Copenhagen this summer. Thanks to everyone who looked out while we were out there: Rich Homie Juan, Frey Dogg, Hjalte (I lost your line for some unknown reason, sorry, I’m an idiot), etc. Enjoy your long weekend and start planning those outfits for NYFW14!

Features Alexander Mosley, Connor Champion, Kadeem Walters, Ty Lyons, Tyler Tufty, Josh Velez, Michael Gigliotti, Matthew Perez, Jon Diaz, Haffa, Jack Sabback, Antonio Durao, Pryce Holmes, Torey Goodall, Danny Brady, Frey Dogg, Pad Dowd, Andre Page, Emilio Cuilan, Rich Homie Juan, Rory Milanes, Kevin Tierney, Uptown Eddie, Chris Haslam’s ex-girlfriend.

Contributing filmers: Andre Page, Richard Quintero, Josh Velez.

We *would* include an alternate YouTube link, but apparently they started disabling audio on account of music rights again? Sick! Glad you record labels are keeping your business models current!

Oh, and in the interest of full disclosure, this entire clip would be edited to “You the World” if only it had come out a week before. Unfortunately, it came out on Wednesday, and the clip was already halfway done at that point :(

Quartersnacks Is For Lovers

qs vanity plate

There’s officially a Quartersnacks-themed vanity plate on the streets of Los Angeles. We got Virginia down (#QSisforlovers), now we need the other 49 states. Maybe not Florida though…

Jerry, George and Kramer watch a sponsor me tape.

Dime rounded up a minute of the best flatground tricks ever done in the Dime Flatground Open: Masters Series, though oddly no Kalis or J.B. to be found. The tricks over the Love can and Newport fakie flip go without saying, but always been a fan of Kalis’ turnaround then 360 flip in Stevie’s Reason part (3:18).

You’re going to be seeing a lot of interviews with Bill Strobeck about “cherry” these next few months: Transworld has one and Live Skateboard Media has another one. (ICYMI: Here’s the one we did, though it came out before the video and had to avoid talking about certain things in detail, given our #spoileralert-sensitive culture.) There’s also some speculation on post-“cherry” developments over on Boil the Ocean.

Another LurkNYC “New York Times” throwaway reel.

This could be a cool series: “Skaters in Cars Looking at Spots.” The first edition is with Mike Anderson. The world desperately needs a Fred Gall one.

Kingpin put together a #listicle of ten great “no push” lines. Torey has two really good ones and Jason Spivey deserves some recognition for filming a “no push” part.

Leo Heinert’s intro part for Torro Skateboards is solid. He’s gotten way good over the years, and the kickflip into the knobbed bank at Fort Greene Park is one of the gnarliest things done at a New York spot in recent memory.

Route One Mag has an interview with one of the few Manhattan-born pro skaters.

In honor of its rebirth, the Green Diamond released a 20-minute B-sides reel.

Best #musicsupervision of any “New Yorkers in Puerto Rico” clip thus far.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: J.R. Smith was put on this earth to break the NBA’s “most threes attempted in a game” record, with 22. (He made 10 of them, by the way.) Also very happy the Knicks aren’t making the playoffs, so we can avoid all the 1999 playoff “8th seed, but we have a CHANCE!” montages. This team doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs, and if you’re rooting for them to make it, you are rooting against the concept of America as a whole, plain and simple.

Quote of the Week: “Yo, you have chest hair, you’re too old to be in a product toss. It’s quiet for you.” — T-Bird

Because man, you deserve it.

Been saying this song would go great for an NBA postseason commercial ever since Pluto came out. Or at least a hell of a lot better than Will.i.am or whatever else they have been using.

Rest in Peace Pichilin. Photo stolen from Sue Kwon’s book, Street Level. 1994.

“cherry” is now available on iTunes in the best quality there is.

The Tumblr community rounded up .GIFs of all the Courthouse Drop tricks from “cherry,” though they should be watched with “I Don’t Know Dem” playing in the background. No “I got them looks” .GIF either…

Dime tracks the mise-en-scéne similarities between Gershon Mosley’s underappreciated skateboard career and “cherry.” Or something.

Tino Razo low-key had some of the coolest tricks in “cherry,” so here is his and Matt Terwilliger’s part from the original Lurkers video (2002).

Mudo Zine interviewed Aaron Herrington, who just turned pro for Polar.

Outside of Pepe Martinez’s switch heelflip frontside noseslide and Kyle James’ entire oeuvre, is switch nose manual fakie 360 flip out the best trick ever done in Timbs?

Some outtakes from the Beef Patty crew’s Puerto Rico montage, and some other outtakes of them skating around the city. More front of Union footage!

OMG, a “Winter Trip to New York” clip?!?! Is dudes reviewing their Tinder matches going to become a standard “lifestyle footage” inclusion for 2014 skate clips?

New Jenkins Log clip featuring Zered, Eli, Jordan Trahan, etc.

A teaser for See Ya Around, the new video by Waylon Bone, a teaser for OD Wavy, the new video from The Man Who Films, and the full version of Corrupted Communications 2, the new video from Grace Skate Co.

The Heights park looks like it’s finished and already covered in horrible graffiti.

A topic relevant to the interests of this website: The best rap songs of 2004, compiled ten years late, as the internet was not nearly as listicle-ified a decade ago. No debate about the #1. Tip seems more concerned with reality TV these days, but at least he can lay claim to recording not not the best rap song of the past ten years.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Even though he had already been in the league for a minute, ever since the 2011 playoffs when Chris Paul singlehandedly beat the Lakers twice, he’s held a special place in my heart. Out of all the dream players that idiot Knicks fans think they’re on the verge of signing, he’s the only one that really hurts. Anyway, yeah, him v.s. the Rockets on Saturday.

Quote of the Week:

torey maroon 5

The Palace L.A. trip looks like it is going well…

The Green Diamond went from a once-relevant institution to a non-existent one. R.I.P.

Who Do You Love

yg flameboy

Still having a tough time coming to terms with YG’s Flameboy tattoo. Apparently he tried to skate at one point in time? Anyway, who else has been catching themselves mumbling “You know I buy you that Chanel, right?”

Reynolds.

The Supreme video, “cherry,” will be available on DVD this Thursday, March 20th. iTunes March 27th. Blue Is the Warmest Color is available on Netflix instant right now.

Yet another “New York Times” raw footage reel from the LurkNYC crew. It’s chill that they skate around with an Oriris G-Bag. Wish we had one :(

Pittsburgh’s Scumco and Sons has a new montage out. Philly Santosuosso has a good bit of New York footage in it. His tricks on the concrete nipple at the park across from Joe’s Pizza are tight. Also features Zach Funk and Lucas Erlebach.

Everyone please welcome Buzzfeed to the list of insitutions writing about New York skateboarding. (Do we make a truer-to-life, R-rated version of their #listicle?)

Charlie Samuels tells the story behind the lil’ Harold Hunter Times Square wallie photo that Supreme utilized for their Comme des Garcons collaboration. However, Buzzfeed is right, this might be the best Harold Hunter photo.

Always nice to see Jeff Pang on a skateboard. No Keith Nut though?

The bowl-to-bank ollie at House of Vans is at the end of this clip. Wow.

Taji put together a “Winter Thaw” clip for Acapulco Gold. More Leo Gutman sightings.

Jordan Hoffart did the most insane kickflip ever (Smolik was probably hyped on it) and Ben Raybourn did a natural loop.

A QS reader made a Soundcloud playlist of songs from our videos. It looks even more like a Friday night Hot 97 mix show playlist than previously expected. He found a nice edit of the Leon Ware song from our only California clip ever.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Yeah, Blazers-Warriors shouldn’t be nationally televised or anything…(*Fingers crossed for Clippers-Warriors first round series*)

Quote of the Week: “You just have to treat being friends with Pryce like dating a hot chick.” — Torey Goodall

R.I.P. Speaker Knockerz. “Rico looked down, had to check his phone, Pedro came out, bang, Rico’s gone…'”

So Cold as Siberiaaaaa-a-a

The #1 and #2 most relevant wall boards of all-time. Photo by Pad Dowd.

Domestics Clothing is now being distributed in the U.K. by the crew at Wayward Gallery. They have a new promo out featuring Torey Goodall, Fred Gall, Quim Cardona and others. T has a sick 180 switch crook ender in some Light Ass Denim™, so you know he’s getting money. (See also: Ishod in Chronicles 2.)

Billy Rohan on Harold Hunter’s Mixtape part. “At least I went pro, you only went flow.”

It seems like the next generation of skate videos is going to be pretty Tumblr, huh?

Speaking of Tumblr: some (photographic) highlights from Olson’s Thrasher interview.

Another five-minute round of leftovers from the Spam video.

No complys are officially trending in New Jersey.

Honestly, the the image of Three Up Three Down and the idea of girls jogging past it in 70-degree weather is the only thing keeping the Quartersnacks office going right now. Until then, here’s video blog #205 from Johnny Wilson and friends.

Kingpin magazine has given in to the #listicle-ized / ad dollar maximizing direction of the internet, and offered a list that is relevant to the interests of this website: The Top Ten Euro Tech Parts. Though we’re partial to Enrique Lorenzo’s L.A. County part as his best offering (#musicsupervision, among other things), the list notably points us in the direction of his under-appreciated Logic part.

Another new Bolts 4-5-6 clip with Chris Lingat.

The Berrics spent last week putting out New York-related content, which will all be of varying interest to you.

How appropriate is it that Brian Wenning’s Lockdown Skateboards is the only enterprise still releasing footage from Staten Island’s ABC ledges? Also, did they get sandblasted or something? They look newer than they did in 2003.

The PFP3 video is premiering at the 2nd Nature Skatepark on Saturday. Promo here.

Non skate-related link alert! If you’re one of those people that complains about rap and uses annoying phrases like “the state of hip-hop,” NPR (yeah, seriously…) recently released two interviews — one with Bun B and the other with Starlito and Don Trip — that are more interesting than any conception of an “interview with a rapper” has the right to be (i.e. they go far beyond typical rapper interview “get this money”-isms.) Listen to them and shut up. Thanks.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Carmelo’s 62. Please, everybody, don’t let this fool you into thinking this team is elevating anywhere beyond a first-round playoff out (with a losing record) this year, or any other year as long as Dolan owns them.

Quote of the Week (cannot remember who this interaction was between, sorry.)
“I met your ex’s new man the other night.”
“Yeah, he has a great backside tailslide.”

Having a tough time figuring out what stance Bieber is
