Where Were You During the Instagram Scare of 2012?

New NJ Scum clip. Best skate crew channel on YouTube.

12th & A is back. Please refrain from any illegal conduct so we can avoid its fate from last winter, and not set skateboarding back five years due to adolescent idiocy.

These Skate Europe videos have been on VBS for three years. Never knew they existed until Frozen in Carbonite tweeted about them the other day. They’re incredible, and drive home the point of how much America sucks for skateboarding compared to Europe. “There was nothing on TV that night, so I just started making a mini ramp in the living room.”

If you want to listen to Jason Dill play music and talk shit, KCHUNG AM radio out in Los Angeles posted up a MP3 of his June 17th broadcast. No, it doesn’t really have anything to do with skateboarding. It is more about throwing a glass of Jameson at a DJ because he was scratching over Rolling Stones songs.

The crew behind the Be Pretty video put up a long throwaway reel. Part one, part two.

This may be a year late, and is certainly not for a very popular spot, but that low pop-over rail on 67th Street between Amsterdam and Broadway is now knobbed. A free beer for anyone who e-mails quartersnacks {*at*} gmail with a scan of Scott Schwartz’s 5050 on it from an old Transworld (or it might’ve been a Slap issue…)

Some unreleased footage of early-2000s Tompkins hero / perhaps the only Hare Krishna skater in the city, Kerel Roach.

People have been getting great deals on those discontinued Palace Chanel crewnecks on eBay. FYI: £201.11 British pounds equals $315 American dollars. Gonna start bootlegging those, like, today…

Speaking of Palace, as per the observation of Phat Stylez co-founder Sweezy F. Wasty, the Associated Supermarkets logo is strikingly similar to the Palace triangle. Perhaps we have stumbled on the next big thing for grocery store skateboard apparel.

The Miami Heat have the best basketball player alive and still cannot sell out their stadium during the post-season. Now that two Miami-based pornstars are offering oral sex to any Heat “fan” in celebration of their championship, will their “fans” begin showing up to the game before the 2nd quarter starts?

The New York Department of Transportation released a commercial with Baron Davis urging New Yorkers to pay attention on the street / not walk and text. Needless to say, it would’ve been way better if they used J.R. Smith…

Quote of the Week: “The less money someone has in their bank account, the more likely they are to win a game of S.K.A.T.E.” — Roctakon

Remember when a team with Eddy Curry and Ronny Turiaf on it won a NBA Championship? That sucked.

Normally, at this time of year, all we would have to show for the past three-and-a-half months is a few trips to Below the Bridge, one trip to Drop-In, several nights of pretending to skate at House of Vans, an elaborate Geo Moya blooper reel, and a clinched playoff spot at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Given 2012’s generosity in climate (the party ends for a bit tomorrow, by the way), we actually had a few nights in midtown, several trips to Flushing (one resulting in an E.J. anxiety attack due to being too far from the T.F.), mad footage of the Tompkins cones, and a wasted bottle of champagne. The bottom-half playoff seeding is still the same.

Contributing filmers: Andre Page & Richard Quintero.

Features: Josh Velez, Ritch Swain, Tyler Tufty, Sweet Waste, Andre Page, Billy McFeely, Pad Dowd, Vladimir Kirilenko, Emilio Cuilan, Negative, Brandon Bramhall, Ty Lyons, Brian Kelley, Rodney Sterling, Rob Gonyon, Jack Sabback, Roctakon, Galen DeKemper, Haffa, Carmelo Anthony, Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith.

Mooney was locked up while this clip was being filmed, hence his lack of footage.

See You At The Parade

To think that only a month ago, we were claiming we wouldn’t mention the NFL for a few years. Congratulations to the New York Giants. The Knicks are never winning anything (especially when you need 25 points & 7 assists from a Chinese Harvard graduate to beat the Nets…), so perhaps we should direct our local sports radar beyond basketball.

In other Super Bowl / Skate-Related News: Fred Gall wins the Dobbin Block Super Bowl squares pool, Paul Rodriguez does what is presumably one of history’s more expensive switch flips for a Samsung commercial (@ 0:56), Mixtape star and circa-1997 “King of Style,” Peter Bici, informs close friends that “Boston sucks” immediately after New York’s victory, and Gucci Mane declares the trap’s comeback. Does anyone go to U Mass? You guys didn’t handle the loss too well, huh?

The most interesting post-Super Bowl development? Cam’ron resurrects the nearly three-year-old Cousin Bang project for a special Super Bowl edition. He still insists that the full-length movie is coming soon (original trailer here.)

Paulgar put together a six-minute montage from the late-Autumn era featuring Jake Johnson, Ted Barrow, Kevin Tierney, Brian Delatorre, and other QS-favorites. Some of the footage is previously unseen. All shot in/around New York, minus a few Miami clips from that awful “short film” Paul made starring Lemony Snicketts.

To answer our own question from a few months ago about when skaters will get tired of editing videos to songs off Jeru the Damaja’s The Sun Rises in the Eastnot anytime soon.

Fresh off the demise of the Santa Monica Sand Gaps, Los Angeles loses another iconic skate spot (one that actually deserves to be a famous skate spot.) The Department of Water & Power Benches are knobbed.

The Shit U Not blog offers a tour through a classic Big Brother issue (#22). Andy Roy on the cover, Gino Iannucci interview, a Chris Keefe Capital Skateboards ad, and other varying points of interest.

The official video “Got One” by 2 Chainz just dropped, and it’s easy to say that the Torey Goodall version does the song way more justice.

The forecast for tomorrow promises “near record high temperatures.” If only every February had multiple 50-degree days.

Merry Christmas

The first QS Christmas clip with no Ziegfeld footage. 2011 had some sad moments.

Let’s start off by saying this clip, and probably every clip that will be posted on this website in the next fifty years, is not as good as the “Best of 2011” clip. Christmas clips are about capturing the spirit of the season, so our trademark music supervision has to restrain itself (last year’s rift between The Far East Movement and Coltrane was well-documented.) At least until Meek Mill or Future follow in Black Dave’s footsteps and release a Christmas album. 2011’s offering is a big shorter that past years’, but what it lacks in footage, is made up for by more sweatpants, camo pants, yellow track jackets, two (!) lines with just nosegrinds and 5-0s, sketchy landings, nollie tailslides, switch noseslides (both of those tricks are coming back big-time for 2012) than any other clip you may have seen this year. Usually, Roctakon is Quartersnacks’ best dressed (Galen in a 2XL UNLV baseball jersey over a 2XL turquoise Champion crewneck is a close second…), but everyone stepped up their gear in 2011.

Contrary to the mistake printed in the post for the teaser, this is actually our seventh annual Christmas clip, which is kind of crazy.

Features Alexander Mosley, Will Jones, Tyler Tufty, Emilio Cuilan, Andre Page, Matthew Mooney, Bill Pierce, Ben Nazario, Roctakon, Dustin, Kevin Tierney, Ty Lyons, Shawn Powers, Miles Marquez, Sweet Waste, Billy Mcfeely, Josh Velez, and Ritchard Swain.

It’s nearly 4 A.M., and I have to be at the Garden for the Knicks’ season opener in less than seven hours, so it’s time for sleep. (Predictions for the first day of the NBA? Knicks have a 60% chance of winning if Pierce actually sits out / no chance if he plays, Miami over Dallas because Dirk spent the last six months partying, Lakers over Chicago because Kobe spent the last six months wanting to kill someone, and Oklahoma over Orlando because the Magic are going to be a soap opera this year.) If you have a blog/Tumblr/legitimate website/Facebook page, please re-post the clip if you enjoy it, it would mean a lot. Merry Christmas.
