End of the Year Fall Off List

Been slow around here, as recent injuries have taken their toll on office morale, but December is always busy. QS holiday 2017 tees are now available at Supreme Soho and Brooklyn. Arriving at other shops this week and next. Online soonish?

Probably one of the most fried concepts for a recent skate video, but in the best way possible — Kyota Umeki filmed an entire skate video on a Nintendo 3DS with a fisheye taped to it. 90% of it is filmed within like, five blocks of the L.E.S. Park. I also have “Groove Is In The Heart” stuck in my head now, great.

The crew behind Newark’s Shorty’s spot (R.I.P.) was allotted a piece of land by the city, in which they have begun to build a bowl. They’re looking to raise money for supplies, concrete trucks, etc. to speed up the project. If you’ve been to Shorty’s even once, please donate whatever you can so they can continue forward with the Shorty’s spirit ♥

People are insane. They don’t wanna see you shining on a nollie crook in Tribeca.

Bobby Worrest has a comprehesive interview with “The Nine Club,” with a detailed discussion re: the lost art of skate spot politics and east coast aversion to wax. (His favorite Bobby Worrest part is also “Looks Ok To Me.”)

“The single biggest casualty of single parts is there’s no extra bullshit.” Abada has an interview with The Secret Tape, the guy who owns every hardcopy skate video besides the premiere copy of Photosynthesis.

Genny, Nik Stain, Andrew Wilson, Nolan, etc. with an iPhone clip from Portland.

Pat Buckley has been posting a bunch of Dobbin Block-era photos of Caddo, Frankhouse, Mraz et al. over on Tumblr.

A minute-and-a-half of 2017 Brian Wenning footage, who is apparently back on DC.

Harry Bergenfield has a six-minute, half-New York throwaway clip up now. A lot of clips have been starting off with fights lately, huh? Angst still running strong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kept forgetting to link this one: Miami’s Andrew skate shop crew on the west coast.

^Someone tell 2005 Erik Ellington that this thick shorty is looking for him, insofar as the pork pie hat guy doesn’t get to her first.

Well, this video is going to be pretty fucked

It gets better every time you watch it. Shout out Australia.

QS Sports Desk: Imagine if the Knicks did a subtler trust the process-esque strategy instead of doubling-down on iso-Melo and then trying to force the triangle onto the modern NBA for the past decade? Eh.

Happy birthday Future. No clue how we’d get through life on this planet without you ♥

Yo the new full-length Gang Corp video is incredible. Impossible to watch it and not get hyped. Made me wanna go to midtown and hit spots we haven’t tried skating in years.

Damn, Delancey Curb was lit last night.

Please donate what you can to the Harold Hunter Foundation, which is doing a rout of fundraising right now. “A donation big or small will help enable them to provide mentoring, life skills workshops and college/career readiness activities for young people who would otherwise have no access to these vital services.” The best skater from New York is a H.H.F. alumnus so they’re doing real good work over there ♥

The Dominican government DMed Luis Tolentino and asked him to represent D.R. in the Olympics. Idc what your position on the Olympics is…that’s pretty beast.

Boil the Ocean is tweaking its business model away from long-winded musings on the world of skateboarding to give us the Uber of skateboard filmers.

The latest episode of Skate Muzik has a detailed interview with Eli Gesner about the music supervision from the early Zoo York videos.

Jake, Zered, Eli + Mehring go to a place not known for having spots and look for spots.

A minute of new footage of Wade D. skating Toronto.

Jesse and his dad went to Hawaii to film a video for Stussy.

The Tennyson Corp. put together a cameo-laden compilation of Jaime Reyes footage, the first girl I can remember seeing footage of in an east coast skate video. #respect.

Someone found a stash of photos of Pepe Martinez skating his driveway in 1988.

Spot Updates1) The long Philly step on Kenmare is a wrap. 2) The city quickly rebuilt the Triangle and it sucks.

Brian Kelley has spent the past couple years searching for all sorts of ephemera from New York City’s transit system. His collection became this massive book that is essentially the unofficial history of MTA merch. Worth every penny for any sort of New York history nerd or graphic design geek.

Pryce’s 30-Year-Old Friend: “Oh yeah, I’ve read about Finstas and Rinstas.”
Pryce’s 16-Year-Old Brother: “Where’d you read that, Parent Magazine?”

Gonna use this day before 10/17 to remind everyone about “I pull up in a Zonda same color lasagna.”

Check out the new commercial Genesis Evans and Conor Prunty’s brand, Humble! Then show some support for friends doing cool stuff!

Best video of 2017? Scumco and Sons has a new one featuring Kyle fucking Nicholson and Philly Santosuosso. The overall spirit of the Pittsburgh skate scene is one of the most admirable, inspiring and make-you-feel-stupid-for-complaining-about-literally-anything forces in skateboarding. God bless everyone involved. Really predictable #1 for this week’s QS Top 10 as well.

C H A D M U S K A E P I C L Y L A T E R ‘ D H O L Y S H I T. Our prayers have been answered! The upcoming season also includes episodes for Andrew Reynolds, Bam (!!!), Heath Kirchart, Jason Dill, Andy Roy and Spike Jonze.

#TF[west]Report, August 19, 2017, but I’d teleport to Republiqué if given the chance :)

Another week, another iconic Nik Stain backside smith grind line ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The last #fit anyone expected to see in a 2017 skate clip (a Jeremy Lin jersey), and some subversive line choreography at the Pratt brick bank ledge. Drew Connors uploaded his longest promo yet for Bailar II, which has apparently been completed.

Boil the Ocean has suggestions for Wenning, Lakai and Clint “Worst Style” Walker.

Bronze affiliates and QS office favorites, Mark Humienik and Josh Wilson, visited the under-explored city of Istanbul and came back with this edit.

Steve Mastorelli uploaded his Jersey (duh) based Meadowlands video in full.

Here’s “Mean Streets” volume 9 via LurkNYC, but you gotta #respect Paul Tucci.

A ten-minute remix of Andrew Allen footage + some cameos from Vans guys.

Stuff you’ve seen already1) Palace dropped a new, 14-minute video that includes a small intro part for Lucas at the end. Dej is sick but he should’ve skated to Cardi B. 2) The boys behind Hjalte Halberg’s favorite non-Swedish skateboard company went to Brazil and came back with the feel-good motion picture of the summer. My new favorite skateboard-writer, Jesse Alba, also wrote the article about their trip to Russia with accompanying photos by Colin Sussingham.

“Your Honor, totally he is guilty and in no way can I let him slide out of anything because — it’s my attitude toward his entire demeanor, what he has done to people. And he disrespected the Wu-Tang Clan.”

Not a late one today!

Still late. Oh you thought the slump was over? New #content dropping tomorrow though :)

The roster and categories for the 2017 Dime Glory Challenge have been released. Tiago will be there. You can read Baker’s wonderful recap of last year’s event here.

Manchild has some New York clips in his raw B-sides video from The Flare (check the 5:18 mark), Bobby De Keyzer has some New York clips in his now-online Riddles part, and Paul Young has a quick compilation video from the Bronx Courthouse ledge-to-bank, one of the few New York spots to appear in a 411 opener.

Jason Byoun has a clip from the pool people have been skating in the purgatory abyss of Midwood. Be careful, because people have been getting tickets.

Was Nyjah’s rave the most 1990s thing so far this summer?”

To supplement Mike Arnold’s incredible “Lloyd’s” part, Sidewalk threw together a two part history of England’s second most famous skate spot :)

With one-spot parts trending hard these past several years, Politic’s sister brand, The Vacation, put together a remix video of Ross Norman (a.k.a. the guy Hjalte stole all his tricks from) at Legislative Plaza, one of the few remaining plaza™ spots in the U.S.

“That is what skating does: it fills the cracks in society…”

An undercover cop wearing DC once asked us what DC stood for. We told him it stood for “Danny and Colin.” I guess we lied. Anyway, Droors Clothing is making a comeback. Alphanumeric up next?

Fucked up T.F. obstacle hall of fame, first ballot

“There’s no hierarchy there. No one tries to out cool each other. And I love that the place is a real public place in the sense that you meet other people there and you get to see real city life. It’s warm, it’s tough – it’s diverse.” Village Psychic with some more knowledge from the skateboard utopia that exists in Denmark’s capital city.

And on that note, Max Hull has a video recap of the drunkest skateboard contest on earth. It’s the only bit of CPH Open coverage I’ve managed to watch in full.

The Northern Co. boys skate the Willy B Momument, Delancey curbs + the Banks.

And like that, the trinity of 6th Ave. spots that defined our adolescent years is gone. Though it has been 70% skateblocked since 2011, Ziegfeld is now closed off for renovations. You might be able to skate the barrier off the ledge though ;)

“I learned a word the other day. Refurbish.” C’mon you know that’s a five.

50% Of The Time, The Answer Is Yes

Harold Hunter at the Bleecker Street Banks, 1994. Photo by Lance Dawes. Honestly can’t remember if this has ever ran as a headliner image before, but that spot has always stuck out as a “it’d be nice if that was still around”-spot, even though it was probably just a 2% better version of the McDonald’s Banks in Brooklyn ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rest in Peace, C.J. Tambornino. “C.J. put the ‘G’ in genuine.”

“Don’t drive through Arizona acting like an idiot staying awake for days at a time.” The Bunt came through with what we’re going to dub “Everything you ever wanted to know about Brian Wenning but were afraid to ask.” The interview is brave, brutally honest, and a positive start to a new chapter in the life of someone we all looked up to as kids. Must-listen for anybody who came of age in the Photosynthesis and DC Video days.

A bunch of Canadians in Spain, with a handful of B-roll to “Yo, Best Idea.”

Always great to see new Philly Santosuosso footage, one of the hardest working men in skateboarding. (Always liked the way this remix came out, too.)

NESH” is a rad New York edit from Victor Garland, featuring every spot we were too lazy to venture out to when we had the “where do we skate?” debate yesterday.

There are mixed reports about the severity of the whole police situation right now, but be careful if you skate the new Brooklyn D.I.Y. spot. Apparently, *building* may be more of an issue than just skating. Max Palmer never hurt nobody.

Shout out to the Long Live Southbank organization for keeping ambitions running high. They started up a fundraiser (with a million dollar goal) to restore a section of the spot that has been closed and un-used since 2004. The promo video for it is sick. (And P.S. The Banks are never truly “back” until the city restores the small Banks.)

Philly is going from having three of the most iconic street plazas within one block of one another, to potentially zero by next summer. Place can’t catch a break :(

What would the internet be if it weren’t for remixes of Bloby Instagram footage?

The Mira Conyo squad threw a contest up at the 181 Park a few weeks back.

Jenkem has Tommy Koehne’s HYD video playing in full over on their site.

This seems like a fun way to spend three months :)

Why didn’t you chase her down dude?

The most common e-mail from the past week has been a size chart request for the QS swim trunks, so here you go. All sizes in both colors are still available — it’s a long summer and we stayed stocked :) Grab them before some guy with a job does. Also got a good size run in tees and some bags left. Thanks for the support everyone ♥
