‘Sure’ — The New Video From Johnny Wilson

“When did Johnny’s videos peak?”

That has been a popular topic in 2015. Pundits believe the videos were at their purest when Space Heater dropped — but then you remember that Beef Patty contained the last full-length Paul Tucci part, or that Paych had that fire Gwen Stefani song.

As we wait to see if the monster of New York City nightlife has Wenning-esque consequences on the Most Productive Crew™ (that may be an antiquated name) and their filmer, Sure is the latest one. It got rave reviews on premiere night.

Features parts from Andrew Wilson, Harry Jumonji, reigning Q.S.S.O.T.Y. Max Palmer making a strong case for potentially pulling the first ever two-peat win of the award, Paul Tucci with his highest volume of footage since the aforementioned video, Corey Rubin skating a bowl wearing a chain, John Choi from Dime and Cyrus from Polar. Guest appearances from all the familiar faces, along with a middle montage filmed at some weird sunny part of Brooklyn (?) that I have never been to.

State of the Noseslide Address

With the chaos of awards season over and the faint glimmer of spring ahead of us, it is time that we shift our attention back on what’s most important: noseslides. (“The building block of modern skateboarding” © Frozen in Carbonite.)

Though the current crop of heavily #curated skaters lean towards the simpler side of the trick spectrum, they have seldom found a place for a plain noseslide in their video parts. The noseslide has thus, in turn, found a modern home in fifteen second Instagram clips, where scrutiny of “easy” tricks does not run as high.

Topic 1: IG output made our 2014 Noseslider of the Year award winner an easy call.

With the madness that was December (remember that week when there were six QS updates?! Crazy times, man), we were not allowed to shine a proper light on the most prolific noseslider of those past twelve months. But NBA teams don’t get their championship rings ’til the middle of the season anyway, so consider the clip above a Finals DVD.

Johnny Wilson‘s lack of a digital strategy has forced us into the office on a Saturday for a rare weekend update. But given the 1OAK logo at the beginning, maybe releasing a skate video during peak party hours (Friday night) was in the plan all along.

The Most Productive Crew™ in New York Skateboarding has returned with their second not-just-a-web-clip project in ~four months. They have a nicer camera, clearer picture quality, hornier music supervision, more needle threading tricks, and a continued adherence to 2014’s sexualization of skate video titles. (You could and should still buy a copy of Paych here if you love the VX1000 that much.)

Following in the footsteps of Wes Kremer’s wallie bluntslide, and Jake’s trick from Static 4 (won’t spoil for anyone who hasn’t seen it), some guy wallie crooked grinded the Clipper Ledge. It’s not like tricks down Clipper have been tangibly comprehensible to the average human since Darrell Stanton’s Free Your Mind ender anyway…

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Honestly, can’t think of anything that stands out above the rest from the past week, aside from Tony Parker’s entire Game 3 performance. (P.S. We’re Spurs fans here from here on in, because they’re the only team left that can beat Miami.) Still sorta amazed the Thunder blew it yesterday. Also, you should read Grantland’s history of the 2002 western conference finals between the Lakers and Kings. It’s mad sad though. Biebel probably teared up reading it.
