“There’s a new emphasis on personality, and people want to know who the person is and the context of that person. It’s kind of funny, like we’re swinging really far into this abstract realm of not caring how good skaters are.” Jenkem has a great interview with QS-favorite, Zak Anders. Favorite skate interview in a minute.
“Zooted” is a New York video by Stephán Lewis with appearances from Brandon Scott, Jiro Platt, Yaje Popson and a bunch of other people you’ll recognize from skating around downtown.
The Village Psychic dudes spend the lockdown months creating Village Archive, an early stab at a Wikipedia or an IMDB of skateboard footwear. (Man, have skaters been responsible for designing some awful shoes.) Kinda inspired to think up some ideas similar to this one now…
We began the decade by burning an impossible over a bench into memory — a trick that had, with a few exceptions, largely sat dormant for the better part of twenty years.
Tallying every trick that had gone down at every gap became burdensome. The best real estate for a switch tre down D7 in 2015 was the part of a Johnny Wilson clip when the drums began to cut out of a Moodymann song. (Jk, that clip is one of the best things of the past decade. Switch tre is obvs beast too.)
We did an end of the year inventory over at the warehouse, and turned up some loosies of things we had marked as sold out. Check the webstore in case you missed out on something from the last release. It’s not a restock, e.g. maybe we found quite literally two larges of a tee and threw them back online. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Thank you everyone for all the support throughout the year.
“I think me doing all these other things outside of skating makes me like skating more.” Thrasher posted up Tyshawn’s interview from the last issue, and the full “BLESSED” article online. Still processing how Kadow’s Chinatown Banks lipslide ever worked out.
Need a playlist with a sizable chunk of the Young Thug leaks from 2018? Yeah, you do. It’s insane some of these are sitting in purgatory compared to what gets released by the label. This playlist > the sum of his “official” 2018 output, and his “Let It All Work Out” is better than his dad’s ♥
QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Theotis Beasley WITH THE BLOCK!!!
Posted remotely in Copenhagen for the week, where it already fast-forwarded to everyone needing a hoody and jacket at night. Here are eighteen seconds of Hjalte warm-ups filmed a hundred feet from where this post is being typed.
America: Where seemingly sane “adults” argue about the placement of a trash can + yoga/skate hybrids and LurkNYC showing #OGRESPECT in volume eighteen of their always entertaining “New York Times” throwaways series.
Here’s a five-minute recap on the Keenan Forever skate jam at T.F. West last week.
With skate premieres officially becoming an unwelcome cultural even at Sunshine theater this past spring, have we found the new capital of illicit beers and big-screen skate video screenings?! Omg. The SVA theater will be hosting the premiere of Colin Read’s new video this Saturday, which features parts from Quim Cardona, Vincent Touzery, Chris Jones, and rumor has it, DANIEL KIM footage. Jenkem did an interview about Colin’s purportedly last video as well.
