In Front of These Delis Eating Cannolis

T.F. Report: Labor Skateshop’s recent gift to the Tompkins community has temporarily been re-located to Avenue D for unknown reasons.

“Just like skaters, tennis dudes obsess over the most minute details of their ‘setups,’ like the type of nylon with which they string their racquets, the tape with which they grip their handles, shoes, all that shit.” — Frozen in Carbonite with a Freudian shoe review of the Nike SB Challenge Court that expands on skate/tennis parallels mentioned by Gino Iannucci, among other things.

There is a Torey Goodall interview in the new issue of Grey Skate Mag.

Yes! Skateboarding gets it right! November 19: A Twitter inquiry is made as to whether or not someone has skated to Ginuwine / Timbaland’s “Pony,” in expectance of an obvious “No.” November 23: The winner of a Manny Santiago re-edit contest coincidentally re-edits his part to…Ginuwine, “Pony.” Thank you David Jojola.

The New York Times profiled Supreme last week. They predictably chose an awful headliner photo. Also related: Have you guys heard about Supreme’s collaboration with Apple? Their limited run of custom MacBooks start at $999,995.

What a horrible last name.

Some young’ns up in Vancouver and Calgary made a sick twenty-minute skate video entitled “Serenity Now.” Even QS has yet to a reach a point where clips are edited to Tyga. “You never could compete with Lloyd Braun!”

“Summer in New York” clips continue emerge even with nightly lows below thirty degrees. “Escape From New York” comes complete with a brief Snake Plissken nod. (There is no reason why Roc Marciano shouldn’t join Big L and Jeru the Damaja in the ranks of go-to music to edit New York skate clips to. “Paid for the necklace and ate breakfast.”)

New footage from the Jersey City rink spot that looks old due to #VHS.

The Muska is back on the board. Well, sort of. Will club scenes in skate clips be a part of #trendwatch2013?

Quote of the Week: “White folks don’t know about Peanut Chews. That’s candy for old black men. My father and his father ate those. Y’all [white people] just have Hersey Kisses in your houses.” — Josh Velez

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: JAAAVVVAAALLLEEE MMMCCCGGGEEE!!! (And Kenneth Faried and Andre Miller and Corey Brewer.)

Pretty Sweet DVDs supposedly come out tomorrow. Anyone have info on which shops will have copies? (Miss you, Autumn.)

Ain’t No Way Around It: End of Summer / Labor Day Weekend 2012 Video

Didn’t June start like four days ago? Hard to remember what even happened this past summer, short of the same conversation over and over about the new L.E.S Park (“There’s mad bikers,” “It’s good when it’s early,” “Nah, but it’s good at night,” “At least 12th & A is empty now,” etc.) There had to have been some other noteworthy summer developments, but we don’t remember them. Most of the songs that “defined” this summer sucked (2 Chainz had a good eight or ten month run, but it’s obviously over), so we went with two good ones from last summer.

Features Emilio Cuilan, Ty Lyons, Galen Dekemper, Tyler Tufty, Haffa, Alexander, Mosley, Sweet Waste, Conor Fay, Jahmal Williams, Jordan Trahan, Kadeem, Elijah Cole, Scott Schwartz (!!!), Brendan Carroll, Andre Page, Josh Velez and Ben Nazario. Contributing filmers: Andre Page, Emilio Cuilan, Goshi Goto, Josh Velez. Most of the filming is still horrendous, as usual.

Have a good holiday weekend.

Past End of Summer Clips: 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006

QS Clips: Now With 50% More Noseslides!

PEEP THE ILL ANGLES FAM. In skateboarding, the dolly shot is “the Ty Evans shot.” Above, is the Quartersnacks shot. We have officially contributed to skateboarding’s cinematographic lifeblood. Or something.

Threw a bunch of shit from the past three weeks on a Final Cut timeline over one of Lil’ Boosie’s more triumphant songs. Us having not used a Boosie song for a clip since “Wipe Me Down” was out in the summer of 2007 (isn’t it great how clip posts used to go up at 2 A.M?) is more embarrassing than having used only one circa 2009 Gucci Mane song. Features John Rulez, Josh Velez, Tyler Tufty, Zered Bassett, Sketch Sketch, Matthew Mooney, Haffa, and a Mexican guy with a cart full of cans.

Have a good and safe weekend. Go to a BBQ and learn some tricks. To no one’s surprise, J.R. Smith already got arrested in Miami today, 2 Chainz is hosting King of Diamonds on Sunday, and Gucci’s new (likely disappointing) mixtape dropped today.

If you want to watch something actually “good” in the traditional sense, there’s a new Nike SB Taiwan trip montage with footage of Daniel Lebron and Youness Amrani in it.

Check the Stats, Check the Racks

Normally, at this time of year, all we would have to show for the past three-and-a-half months is a few trips to Below the Bridge, one trip to Drop-In, several nights of pretending to skate at House of Vans, an elaborate Geo Moya blooper reel, and a clinched playoff spot at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Given 2012’s generosity in climate (the party ends for a bit tomorrow, by the way), we actually had a few nights in midtown, several trips to Flushing (one resulting in an E.J. anxiety attack due to being too far from the T.F.), mad footage of the Tompkins cones, and a wasted bottle of champagne. The bottom-half playoff seeding is still the same.

Contributing filmers: Andre Page & Richard Quintero.

Features: Josh Velez, Ritch Swain, Tyler Tufty, Sweet Waste, Andre Page, Billy McFeely, Pad Dowd, Vladimir Kirilenko, Emilio Cuilan, Negative, Brandon Bramhall, Ty Lyons, Brian Kelley, Rodney Sterling, Rob Gonyon, Jack Sabback, Roctakon, Galen DeKemper, Haffa, Carmelo Anthony, Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith.

Mooney was locked up while this clip was being filmed, hence his lack of footage.

Merry Christmas

The first QS Christmas clip with no Ziegfeld footage. 2011 had some sad moments.

Let’s start off by saying this clip, and probably every clip that will be posted on this website in the next fifty years, is not as good as the “Best of 2011” clip. Christmas clips are about capturing the spirit of the season, so our trademark music supervision has to restrain itself (last year’s rift between The Far East Movement and Coltrane was well-documented.) At least until Meek Mill or Future follow in Black Dave’s footsteps and release a Christmas album. 2011’s offering is a big shorter that past years’, but what it lacks in footage, is made up for by more sweatpants, camo pants, yellow track jackets, two (!) lines with just nosegrinds and 5-0s, sketchy landings, nollie tailslides, switch noseslides (both of those tricks are coming back big-time for 2012) than any other clip you may have seen this year. Usually, Roctakon is Quartersnacks’ best dressed (Galen in a 2XL UNLV baseball jersey over a 2XL turquoise Champion crewneck is a close second…), but everyone stepped up their gear in 2011.

Contrary to the mistake printed in the post for the teaser, this is actually our seventh annual Christmas clip, which is kind of crazy.

Features Alexander Mosley, Will Jones, Tyler Tufty, Emilio Cuilan, Andre Page, Matthew Mooney, Bill Pierce, Ben Nazario, Roctakon, Dustin, Kevin Tierney, Ty Lyons, Shawn Powers, Miles Marquez, Sweet Waste, Billy Mcfeely, Josh Velez, and Ritchard Swain.

Contributing Filmers: Goshi Goto & Rob Harris.

It’s nearly 4 A.M., and I have to be at the Garden for the Knicks’ season opener in less than seven hours, so it’s time for sleep. (Predictions for the first day of the NBA? Knicks have a 60% chance of winning if Pierce actually sits out / no chance if he plays, Miami over Dallas because Dirk spent the last six months partying, Lakers over Chicago because Kobe spent the last six months wanting to kill someone, and Oklahoma over Orlando because the Magic are going to be a soap opera this year.) If you have a blog/Tumblr/legitimate website/Facebook page, please re-post the clip if you enjoy it, it would mean a lot. Merry Christmas.
