On the plus side, *if* Dolan is capable of feeling stupid (massive if), he should feel pretty dumb right now considering the Nets made the second round and the Knicks didn’t even make the eighth seed. With “cherry” out, Static IV might be the last major video left to look forward to this year. (*Insert blurb about full-length videos not being what they used to be*) We all want to see a new Tierney or Aaron Herrington part, but Jahmal and Quim having sections is probably the most awaited aspect of the project, at least for the born pre-1990 skate nerd contingent. Anticipation for both has a bit of an east coast Pretty Sweet cloud around it, in that there’s an understanding this will likely be the last time we see a substantial batch of footage from these guys.

After watching Quim’s Overground Broadcasting part for the 100th time, a subsequent YouTube binge revealed his seldom-seen Adidas commercial that ran in 411 back in 1998. Everyone would rather forget what most major shoe companies’ first jab at a skate program in the nineties looked like, but Adidas kinda killed it with these commercials. They were shot on film and covered a pretty eclectic team (Paulo Diaz, Quim, Jahmal, Matt Beach.) Jahmal’s version somehow isn’t online, and we have a FQ one left over from last year’s “Lost Tapes” re-edit, so here it is below, uncut.

Though probably to a lesser extent than how Gino is “the Wu-Tang guy,” between this and his Eastern Exposure 3 part, Jahmal is sorta the Gil Scott-Heron guy. That’s why we subconsciously ended up using the most Gil Scott-Heron-sounding song not by Gil Scott-Heron in the aforementioned remix video.

Labor has a restock of Marisa Tomei and Jesus Piece cruisers on their webstore, but they probably won’t be there for very long.

A lot of interviews went online this past week, and Frozen in Carbonite’s interview with Chris Franzen might be the best of the bunch. He talks about L.A. County (“We were just a bunch of rejects from the industry”), switch 360 flips over Cali tables off flat, and stuff about the business of skateboarding in the nineties that other interviews may be reluctant to address. Must-read for anyone who is a fan of that much mythologized decade.

The Dime crew compiles all the monumental achievements that have occurred while a skater was wearing a yellow tee shirt.

Kanye’s inane, more-calculated-than-people-care-to-admit rants seem to be the latest avant garde skate clip #musicsupervision choice, but when is someone going to edit a clip to DJ Khaled’s McDondald’s commercials?

The Artest era in New York was short, underwhelming, injury-ridden, and worst of all, a decade late, but to his credit, he did provide the team with possibly its sole highlight of the 2013-2014 season.

Five Favorite Parts with Jahmal Williams

We’ve been mulling about a series like this for some time now. In an age of Chrome Ball interviews and Epicly Later’ds, its tough to interview skaters who have been around for a while without treading the same territory their last interview did. And the younger skaters who aren’t entrenched in some sort of controversy are oftentimes not very talkative. In hopes of changing the pace, this idea is essentially a blend of Rotten Tomatoes’ “Five Favorite Films” series, and the introductions for Thrasher’s “Classics” series, except with the nerd-factor ramped up few levels. Think of it as a video-centric version of the Chrome Ball guest posts. The “interview” is quite simple: “What are your five favorite video parts and why?” We’ll see what it turns into down the line, and would appreciate any feedback you guys may have.

The first installment comes from an east coast guy who has always been open about his influences. Here is former Toy Machine and Infamous Skateboards rider, and founder of Hopps Skateboards, Jahmal Williams, with his five favorite video parts. (Listed chronologically, not in any particular order of favoritism.)

A bunch of young kids rip around mostly east coast spots in this great /m\ video throwaway montage. Add this to your list of things to look forward to in 2013: FTC is putting a book together about its storied history. “Featuring interviews, photos, classic ads, memorabilia by FTC’s most legendary affiliates.” Due out in fall 2013. Check out the FTC book blog for continued updates.

The architecture website, ArchDaily, offers a reasonable take on the whole Southbank relocation saga going on in London right now, drawing obvious comparisons to Love Park. “Skating is one of only a handful of cultures that forms such strong, quasi-religious attachments to discovered rather than purpose-built spaces.”

Jahmal Williams describes the thought process one goes through when deciding whether or not to stab someone, among other things in his “Free Lunch” segment.

Boil the Ocean assesses who “has earned the right to post ‘TURN UP’ in all caps on their Instagram account” throughout the next three months A.K.A. notable developments in pro skateboarding to keep an eye on this summer.

Rob Dyrdek wasted no time in filling recently vacated Alien Workshop roster spots. The new line of Alien and Habitat products is looking solid, too.

Lucas Puig is sorta okay at skateboarding. P.S. Cliché, we’re still waiting to hear back about doing that re-edit.

A few new parts recently went online: Matt Eaton in Feelin’ Friendly, Matt Daniels in Outdated, and also — who would have thought the most cellar door-heavy entry in Bobby Puleo’s oeuvre would come in 2013?
