You chose to download Doodle Jump instead of the new QS clip? That’s messed up.

New York is the capital of wearing dumb tweed shit and trendy denim jackets while standing on a cobblestone street in hopes of ending up on a fashion blog. So, we all knew this was inevitable: A skate-themed Sartorialist spinoff blog called The Skartorialist. It goes without saying that Phat Stylez is way tighter.

Joe Cups, the man behind the Lurkers series, re-uploaded his mini-video She’s Lost Control / Ghost Dance to Vimeo. It’s a bit artsy, but there are a bunch of olden day Tompkins artifacts in it.

Hey, remember when Maxi Pads used skateboarding in an ad?

The crew from Familia Skate Shop in Minneapolis (who brought you Flow Trash) is dropping another video entitled Debris. Teaser here.

New spring clip from the After Midnight crew. Any line with a flip-in trick at those East River benches on 37th Street is impressive. Those have at least 10 things wrong with them. Features QS favorites, Akira Mowatt, Geo Moya, and Rob Campbell.

Some of you guys really need to stop smoking marijuana and reading the forewords to art theory books. Spotted here.

Spot Updates: 1) You can skate Penn Plaza again. They removed all the junk from in front of the manual pad. 2) Although it’s a minor spot, the three-stair then flat off Sutton had its runway blocked off with an outdoor seating area for the adjacent restaurant. It’s on the way to that downhill ledge against a fence, which also sucks. Spots that suck are mad popular right now.

INCREDIBLE YOUTUBE FIND: First off, thank you Skate.ly, for being the best skateboarding website on the internet. They uploaded an old War Effort commercial that features Andre Page doing a 180 up, switch frontside flip down over the Pulaski Park ledge over three gap, and a ramp-to-ramp 360 flip at the old Casino Skatepark.

New QS re-edit coming soon. Pretty good chance that it’s an Osiris Storm re-edit with 3x more paintball footage. (Not really.)

Fred Gall sits down with the crew at Brick Harbor and explains why he’s going sober. Seeing a transvestite beat up three dudes in Brooklyn central bookings is enough to sober anyone up. Freddy is also now on Twitter. Follow @DirtsWin. On that note…

Quote of the Week:

Shout out to Kevin Durant for officially ending the “Kobe era” of the NBA on Saturday night. All he needs to do now is keep the Spurs out of the Finals, so they’re actually fun to watch.

See You At The Parade

To think that only a month ago, we were claiming we wouldn’t mention the NFL for a few years. Congratulations to the New York Giants. The Knicks are never winning anything (especially when you need 25 points & 7 assists from a Chinese Harvard graduate to beat the Nets…), so perhaps we should direct our local sports radar beyond basketball.

In other Super Bowl / Skate-Related News: Fred Gall wins the Dobbin Block Super Bowl squares pool, Paul Rodriguez does what is presumably one of history’s more expensive switch flips for a Samsung commercial (@ 0:56), Mixtape star and circa-1997 “King of Style,” Peter Bici, informs close friends that “Boston sucks” immediately after New York’s victory, and Gucci Mane declares the trap’s comeback. Does anyone go to U Mass? You guys didn’t handle the loss too well, huh?

The most interesting post-Super Bowl development? Cam’ron resurrects the nearly three-year-old Cousin Bang project for a special Super Bowl edition. He still insists that the full-length movie is coming soon (original trailer here.)

Paulgar put together a six-minute montage from the late-Autumn era featuring Jake Johnson, Ted Barrow, Kevin Tierney, Brian Delatorre, and other QS-favorites. Some of the footage is previously unseen. All shot in/around New York, minus a few Miami clips from that awful “short film” Paul made starring Lemony Snicketts.

To answer our own question from a few months ago about when skaters will get tired of editing videos to songs off Jeru the Damaja’s The Sun Rises in the Eastnot anytime soon.

Fresh off the demise of the Santa Monica Sand Gaps, Los Angeles loses another iconic skate spot (one that actually deserves to be a famous skate spot.) The Department of Water & Power Benches are knobbed.

The Shit U Not blog offers a tour through a classic Big Brother issue (#22). Andy Roy on the cover, Gino Iannucci interview, a Chris Keefe Capital Skateboards ad, and other varying points of interest.

The official video “Got One” by 2 Chainz just dropped, and it’s easy to say that the Torey Goodall version does the song way more justice.

The forecast for tomorrow promises “near record high temperatures.” If only every February had multiple 50-degree days.

BLACK DONALD TRUMP will be performing at TBD Lounge tonight for a 40 Oz. Van party. Located at 15 Gold Street in the Financial District. It says 9 to 4 on the flyer, so who knows when Dave is actually supposed to go on. Flyer here.

Speaking of Dave (and rap): him, Taji, and Leo are all in some Russian rap video.

Two weeks late, but in case you missed it, Boil the Ocean offers some interesting commentary on the increasingly popular VHS revisionist trend (i.e. “Why can’t VHS be the new Super-8?”) apparent in many of today’s skate videos produced by people over 21. Some of these projects are cool, but this is the sort of thing that quickly becomes annoying once too many people jump on the bandwagon.

PFP2: See You Lazer is a local-based video featuring some 2nd Nature affiliates. Teaser here. It has a few painful-looking slams, so you may not want to watch if you’re about to leave the house to skate…

Here’s a Philly, D.C., and Baltimore based digi cam clip, which includes key scenes from Paid in Full, key tracks from Supreme Clientele, and key points of Roscoe “Imma Sip Moscato” Dash’s underrated influence in youth culture. They rock QS tees, so there’s another plus.

Solid interview with QS-bro-homie-4-life, Christian Banks. It’s not at all about skateboarding, but a good read for anyone that enjoys making music.

Spot Updates: 1) Not a popular spot, but the two up-and-over walls across from Columbus Circle that Shawn Powers skates at the start of this clip had their run ups re-paved. It’s a cool looking spot that mellows out late at night, so you should film some stuff on it. 2) Ziegfeld, still over-doing it, seven months after disaster struck. 3) This may be late, since the drunken Jane-to-Le Bain stroll is not as popular as it was this time last year, but the mega curb between the two (that Dan Zvereff somehow nollie back 180 heel nosegrinded in a line), is gone.

Holmes & Co. in Jersey City is currently selling the greatest tee shirt of all time for $15. Quantities are limited. Photo by Jason Lecras.
