R.I.P. Donald Byrd. At the very least, rap nerds can easily recognize Byrd’s music via the sample Premier chopped up for “N.Y. State of Mind” or the loop from Black Moon’s “Buck ‘Em Down.” He was also on Guru’s first Jazzmatazz compilation. Though not a skater favorite like Dave Brubeck, check out the 2002 Uprise Skateshop video, Suprise, which features two Donald Byrd songs (“Change” and “City Life”), not to mention Ryan Giese and Steve Nish appearances.

Black Dave made it. No, he really made it. B.D. will be opening up for Project Pat on Tuesday, February 26th at Santos Party House. Congratulations to B.D. on this monumental step in his career. And don’t worry, we’ll remind you about this sixty times between now and the end of the month.

Sign of the times: Skateboarder magazine will no longer come in print form.

With the demise of Gravis, Ripped Laces speculates on hypothetical Dylan Reider shoe sponsor scenarios. Skater free agency is not as fun as NBA free agency.

Slicky Boy sighting in the Stefan Janoski “Off the Grid” segment and a New Jersey-based (!!!) Jason Dill sighting in the montage from the Feelin’ Friendly video.

Speaking of Jersey, Jersey Dave got back behind the lens and made a Jersey City junk spot montage. Always fun to use the word “Jersey” three times in one sentence.

Diamond Days #66. “What’s that Chief Keef song where the hook is about his squad and there are like gunshots going off in the background?”

CNN (the news network, not the duo behind the top five all-time rap album), has an incredible set of photos by Mike Belleme showcasing the skate scene in Asheville, North Carolina. If you recall, Jake Johnson had a lot of great things to say about skateboarding in Asheville.

Hey Marc Jacobs, if you guys need consulting help on, say, simple things like putting trucks on facing the right direction, our services are available in exchange for huge suitcases of American currency.

Is this art or something? Rihanna’s song is rad, dude.

Autumn in New York

If you’re trying to get a black QS tee (sold out online), Supreme re-stocked them several days ago. There are less than a dozen white ones left in the web store, so pick one up before Rihanna wears one and they start going for $200 on the Bay.

Baker gave Los Angeles a flashback of April 1992. We’ve reached an age where riot police need to be called to subdue skaters unable to get into a video premiere.

Some more parts from the NJ-based Feelin’ Friendly video are now online. It’s been on Real’s YouTube page for a bit, but this dude Nico Magalhaes’ part is insane. Even if you’re typically not into grew-up-watching-Zero-videos skaters, it has at least five bonafide “OMG/WTF/HOLY SHIT” moments, including (spoiler alert) a 5050 on the Newark Penn Station Hilton wallride (it’s ~waist high), a cab back tail on the Trinity College ledge-to-bank, a kickflip crook on the Passaic bank-to-rail, and both frontside and backside 360s over the handrail and into the bank at the project spot in Rockaway. Eric Dermond’s part has a bit of a Quim Cardona vibe going on. Maybe it’s the headwear choices and olive chinos. Buy Feelin’ Friendly here.

There’s an official video from the Polar Skateboards “Bum Rush the Spot” event. It’s chill that Pontus Alv rocks gear from other European skateboard companies despite owning one himself. We’re all in the same gang.

The Skateboard Mag posted a Vicious Cycle-era Zered Bassett interview from issue #8 (2004?) online. P.S. QS Zered re-edit coming this week.

Some HD footage from the crew that brought you the Steady Lurking video.

While a bunch of pro skaters were in Newark for Street League this past August, Fred Gall showed the Strange Notes crew a side of town much different from the Prudential Center with Scum League.

We went ahead and switched the audio on Kevin Tierney’s Outdated part to “Scatman” and uploaded it to YouTube, so you don’t have to load two videos at once.

The G Man reviewed Cell Out, a Virginia-based skate video that stars Gilbert Crockett and is sponsored by DeWalt power tools.

Hey commenters, watch Jack Sabback’s Moving in Traffic part.

Cruiser prices may also soon skyrocket. Support your local skate site.

WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT WALKING IN THE GUCCI STORE AND THEY SALUTE?

It’s no secret that the internet has conspired to kill off the full-length skate video these past few years. But an enterprising real world minority continues to fight back, as evidenced by a few “Hey, could you post the promo for my video?” e-mails in the Quartersnacks inbox every week. It probably doesn’t take much to get your promo posted as a Monday link — just a front shove or two, a few awful spots, and no music by quirky indie bands. However, if you want a promo featured, well, then you’ll probably need to make a clip that involves a 2 Chainz feature somewhere (currently maybe one of five rappers worth putting up with a minute of Kanye for.)

The homie BJ Wishard sent over this promo clip for his Jersey/NY-based video, Feelin’ Friendly, due out next month. Subscribe on YouTube to stay updated, and for more videos. The video has full parts from Nico Magalhaes, Chris Rozborski, Brian Shroeder, Dillon Constantine, Matt Eaton, Nick Immediato, and Eric Dermond. Clip features German Nieves, Matt Eaton, Adrian Vega, Bill Marshall, BJ Wishard, Chris Rozborski, Derek Nawrocki, Joe Gore, Chris Murray, Nate Fantasia, Dan Vogedes, John Cruz, Joe Scordo, Nick Immediato, Tyler Hart, Sean Barone, Joey Boulliane, Eric Dermond, and Nico Magalhaes.

Those rocks on Water Street are an actual spot now, huh?
