5. The State of the T.F. Report [Sponsored by Soundcloud]
Those around for the post-9/11 flatbar years would find the modern T.F. virtually unrecognizable. Anyone with a functioning brain opts to meet at a skatepark rather than a place where they are forced to have an interaction with a paralegal holding a permit. This year, we were shocked to learn that while we may have a dedicated place to willingly cage ourselves into under the Manhattan Bridge, Soundcloud rappers are still looking for a home. In 2016, they found a nest at our onetime East Village meeting place, and have kept the (sometimes literal) fire of Tompkins debauchery lit in an era when we demand that our day consist of something more than skating a piece of plywood or a discarded Christmas tree.
Adam Zhu’s part from Emilio Cuilan’s DANY video is the next to go live. (Genesis Evans’ section went live two weeks ago.) Filmed and edited by E.J throughout the second half of 2015 and the first half of 2016 :) The DANY video is still available over on the DANY store. Support local businesses yaknow.

“I didn’t know I was beast until I varial flipped a trash can.” — Genesis Evans
E.J. started to post bits and pieces of the DANY video over on his Vimeo page. You could still purchase hard copies of the video over at The Dany Store as well. Or if you want to get weird, we also saw it for sale at a barber shop in Japan, so…
Genny’s part is the first to go live, and it’s every bit as beast as sports analysts thought it would be when he was rolling away from the aforementioned varial flip. This video was what ushered in the wave of people skating the bad ledge at Houston Park again (also the inspiration for this post from March), so its chill to see this generation still keeping up with Anthony Correa’s business practices from Mixtape by placing a mid-line can on the pathway.
Should be caught up on all holiday webstore orders today / tomorrow, and end of the years lists, best ofs, etc. will begin to go live shortly ♥ #sorry4thewait
Sometimes you’re just filming your homie in the East Village and you gotta stop and say hi to your grandma walking by. Below is a video of nearly twenty minutes of outtakes from Emilio Cuilan’s DANY video, featuring Shawn Powers, Adam Zhu, Jason Byoun, Yaje Popson, Genesis Evans and some fire Chris Mango Millic footage.
Hard to really understate how proud of everyone involved in this project the QS office is. Obvs we are a media enterprise that specializes in [often justifiably] complaining about how difficult it is to be productive on a skateboard in New York. This cast of native New Yorkers (save Jason, who is from the superior state of New Jersey) managed to pull off a rad full length video filmed entirely within this city of ungodly distraction. Purchase a copy of the video via thedanystore.com. Copies arriving in Japan shortly, btw.
