It’s cold out there. First posts of…2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.

Here’s a gentle reminder to worry a bit less about ascending in skateboarding’s paid elite this year, and to save some money to travel with your friends to some far-off skate spots and simply have a good time ♥

Pretty stoked to start 2018 off with a whole roster of local videos…

It got uploaded just after last weeks links post went live, but Goodily is a new full-length from Diego Garcia featuring parts from Solomon, Yaje, Pat Hoblin, Jason Byoun, and basically all the people who skate more than you do.

“Banister” is the new ten-minute mini vid from Gang Corp, to which they already uploaded a a half-hour raw files clip of outtakes and kick-outs.

Angel Fonseca and the Bronx crew have a new one called “Money Orders Bill$ 2.”

Lurkers 3 is back online after a brief hiatus as well.

Krooked has a trip to New York raw clip over on the Thrasher site, from what looks like when they were filming for LSD.

Memory Screen compiled what is essentially a “best of pre-2010s skateboarding history” montage to the long version of 411‘s theme song to get you hyped. Leaving out S.J’s front 180 switch crook at J. Kwon is a tad bit preposterous though.

Still a good bit of end-of-the-year stuff floating around on the slim chance that you didn’t have enough of 2017…

Theories has a ten list for 2017’s “Underground S.O.T.Y.”

Ripped Laces runs down the ten best skate shoes of 2017 (“the bootie, if you’re not used to it, takes a few hours to adjust to”), and the 25 best board graphics of 2017.

It’s 2 degrees outside for the foreseeable future, but we’re getting Sremmlife 3 this month to give us strength. At least you’re not in Montreal.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Porzingis is obviously close (no playoffs…yet, maybe 2025), but Tyson Chandler is still the best Knicks player of the current millennium. Happy to see him up to his old tricks in a warmer climate.

Café Creme has a new interview with my favorite Wilson brother. It’s weird how QS has ran interviews for my second favorite Wilson, in addition to my third favorite Wilson brother, but we never got around to #1.

New Era has a lifestyle-ish clip with Tyshawn Jones pushing around Soho and Tribeca. You likely already caught it, but the Hardies Australia clip featuring T.J, Troy, K.B, Chopped Cheese, etc. is a good time as well.

C.J. Keossaian, Sean Dahlberg, Hugo Boserup, Andrew Wilson, Nik Stain and John Choi traveled to the Westerly and Groton skateparks in Connecticut, and came back with “Jet Fueled Hog.” We did that once. Good times.

Frontside 5050 to nosemanual is maybe the last trick anyone expected to see on Pyramid Ledges from that period where the one side was unknobbed.

Heaps Chat interviewed A.V.E. about his favorite restaurants and least favorite streets.

Amazing they even got to ten — Village Psychic re: the ten best backside feebles on ledges. We’re particularly offended Torey’s Baby Steps ender got left out, but Canadian skate gods are used to being neglected by the #fakenews media by now.

Late start today, after an unprecedented first week of the year with five updates :)

Probably caught this already, but Bronze dropped a Euro trip video right before the weekend, featuring two weeks spent in Berlin and Paris.

Best Johnny Wilson clip and Max footage in a minute. A road trip with Cyrus Bennett and Loose Trucks Max from the south, thru the midwest.

Even though Sheffey and Gonz tend be the most oft-mentioned parts, in doing those “Five Favorite Part” segments, one name has been mentioned by almost every person 30+ as one of their biggest influences, and it’s Ocean Howell. Chromeball has an extensive new interview with him about his career, hiatus and return.

Disregarding the world’s toughest question, Jordan Trahan knows where to skate AND eat, as he gives a tour of his favorite restaurants, all of which are on Orchard Street.

A bunch of podcasts / audio interviews seem like they made their way online in the past week: 1) The Nine Club interviewed Gino Iannucci. 2) “I had a job working at a skate shop since I was 12 and the only thing it prepares you for in the real world is how to deal with assholes.” — Somehow missed this “Max White Presents” one with Dave Caddo. 3) Max White has another new one with Taylor Nawrocki. 4) Tim O’Connor had Bobby Puleo on for his Jenkem Podcast. 5) The Bunt’s new one is with Chad Dixon.

Thank you to everyone who bought something from the webstore. The response was stronger than expected and we’re still catching up on orders. If you don’t see tracking in your e-mail by ~Wednesday, then you can start sending those “where is my stuff” emails. Until then, we’re still getting caught up with the last of them. If you’re a small, there are some items left + a lot of the hat styles are still in stock.

Damn, back in my day, skate video titles had TWO words. Fully Flared, Menik Mati, Yeah Right… ANYWAY, Drama is the new kinda full-length (15 min) from Harry Bergenfield, Evan Pacheco and the youth, filmed mostly in the city but with a decent bit of Jersey footage. Been fun to watch these get better and better. Everyone obviously starts out with their influences and eventually matures into something unique if they keep at it. Shout out to the boy Ingmar.

To each his own, but the fact that people are making dedicated tribute videos to the “Brownsville Banks” A.K.A. the Beef Patty Banks (or wait, should we have been calling them the Space Heater Banks this entire time?) goes to show how sad the quality of [low bust] spots in this city has become. Cool video though.

The LurkNYC squad took a trip up to Montreal.

Jenkem interviewed the original brand manager behind Ghetto Child wheels about relaunching the brand in 2016, and the heyday of Muska selling 10,000 boards a month. It also reminded me of Child of the Ghetto, which then reminded me of this 2012 New York Magazine profile of G. Dep, which is so, so dark.

“What do you want to hear about: money, guns or drugs?” Chromeball has been killing it with the nineties New Yorker interviews lately. The one with Vinny Ponte from today is incredible and is really going to make you want to party, and the Steven Cales one from last week is as comprehensive of a story on him as you’re gonna get. Hear there’s another one in line with a personal hero of the QS office…

Did you know that Dustin Hoffman’s “I’m walking here!” bit from Midnight Cowboy was completely improvised? “Mean Streets” is a new LurkNYC montage series for the Transworld website. Great looking 360 flip in there.

Surprisingly enjoyed the hell out of this. A 25-minute interview with Josh Kasper. Yes, he does talk about ollieing the DJ. Osiris really was the best man. It was the definitive creative force between skateboarding’s closest counterpart to rap’s shiny suit era. My lifegoals are to produce a documentary on Osiris and own a Paine Webber bench.

Sometimes it’s just great to watch a feel-good “Summer Trip to NY” clip, yaknow?

Could this news be more shocking than Kevin Durant’s switch to the Golden State Warriors? Peter Smolik has parted ways with the Sk8Mafia in exchange for a spot on the rebooted Menace team. Yeah, they rebooted Menace.

The rideaway at the Wall Street gap is fucked now.

QS Sports Desk: What a weekend! Although it was a day before the world got turned upside down with the KD news + Tim Duncan retirement, this has been my favorite bit of free agency coverage. And remember, The Mavs won the title the first year of the Miami Big 3 ;) Enough with all this “this makes the league boring!” shit. Also, this GQ eulogy for the KD+Russ era is quite great.
