NY Skateboarding rounded up New York-related bits from recent magazines, which include the photo side of Adidas’ New York barge last year and Walker Ryan’s insane trick at the Courthouse.

Black Dave has a “First Try Fridays” segment with Eric Koston over on the Berrics.

The new Cliché video, Bon Voyage, is out on iTunes today, and most shops have the DVD in stock. The video is what you expect (though a bit less European given some recent roster additions), including a solid part from every grown-up’s favorite skateboarder, Lucas Puig. The line he does at Pulaski Park is likely the best line you’ll see all year (seeing pros just do a simple, not-Torey-Pudwills-long backside tailslide on a ledge is awesome, especially in 2013.) Also, “Best Line of 2012” title holder, Pete Eldridge, continues to skate with cigarettes and has a solid shared part with J.B. Gillet. If anyone at Cliché is interested in producing an American rap re-edit of Puig’s part, we’re all ears.

#Art Updates: 1) Jeremy Elkin put together a video of Jahmal Williams’ recent Hopps installation at Labor Skateshop. 2) “Eastern Suns,” an art thing which features Jahmal, Dan Drehobl, Bosco, 30 Pack Pat, and others will have an opening reception at Da Fish on Sunday, May 5th at 7 P.M. Flyer here.

Speaking of which, what new spot is going to #trend for this summer’s wave of pro skater visitations, now that the green ledge in Harlem is gone? Or is the stockpile of footage on it enough to keep its memory going?

Guy Mariano offers some wise advice that should be common sense, but unfortunately isn’t for a lot of people: Don’t spend your time in skateboarding bitter and resentful, especially at a young age. That “bitter at 23” shit is the worst. Also, all due respect to Guy, but it’s tough to take his observation about “Skateboarders getting smarter” seriously after skimming through the comments of the Jenkem Mag “New Alien Workshop Rider” April Fool’s video. Then again, YouTube Hella Clips comments are one of modern society’s low-points.

Parts from the Mama’s Boys video are getting uploaded one by one each week. Kevin Maillet’s is the first to go live. Cyrus Bennett and Loose Trucks Max eventually?

For whatever reason, it’s easy to forget about Organika sometimes, but their new promo is great. They literally skate trees in it.

Spot Updates: 1) That new building at Astor is going to have stuff to skate. You can also count on it being knobbed or a six-second bust. 2) With the St. Vincent’s triangle slated for demolition, the actual bank has seen better days. 3) There’s a new box at T.F. Also, if you ever feel overwhelmed by the daily onslaught of Hella Clips and Skatevideosite, Recordings of Boardings is a great slower-paced alternative.

R.I.P. Donald Byrd. At the very least, rap nerds can easily recognize Byrd’s music via the sample Premier chopped up for “N.Y. State of Mind” or the loop from Black Moon’s “Buck ‘Em Down.” He was also on Guru’s first Jazzmatazz compilation. Though not a skater favorite like Dave Brubeck, check out the 2002 Uprise Skateshop video, Suprise, which features two Donald Byrd songs (“Change” and “City Life”), not to mention Ryan Giese and Steve Nish appearances.

Black Dave made it. No, he really made it. B.D. will be opening up for Project Pat on Tuesday, February 26th at Santos Party House. Congratulations to B.D. on this monumental step in his career. And don’t worry, we’ll remind you about this sixty times between now and the end of the month.

Since most recent Zoo York video outings have been montage-oriented, and most recent Black Dave video outings have been young black entrepenuer-oriented, we mixed up his skate video appearances from the past ~two years into one convenient part.
