The Wharf Report II — Michael Babbitt’s Maine Scene Video, “Idiot Boy”

You might remember us clamoring on about last winter’s sleeper hit, Sucks To Be You, which was a …portal into the skate scene in …Portland, Maine ;)

Michael Babbitt dropped Idiot Boy yesterday, a follow-up and even more refined portrait of the east coast’s northernmost place that could still be called a city. (69,000ish people.)

The small town camaraderie radiates through the screen whether the crew is skating a mid-street cobblestone gap, conspiring with diversionary tactics to win an extra try at a hospital spot, or sneaking a session at a dry-enough spot between the midwinter snow piles. You almost feel like it’s of a humbler era when skate-tourism was only aimed westward, and it was possible to know every single skateboarder you passed in the street. Something about living in Maine gives you a really, really good backside flip, as well.

Features Elijah Akerley, Walker Ryan, Leif Hauge, Bubba Manville, Devinn Goodine, Matt Martin, Mark Shirley, Brett Nagy, Sean Randall, Preston Haynes, Peter Miller, Kevin Weden, James Engle, Gunnar Johnson, and Billy Linhart.
