Spots: Midtown Manhattan — Theater District / Times Square Area
Spot: The region near the central New York Public Library is the only skateable portion of Bryant Park, given that the rest of the park is set on choppy, slate-like ground.
Parallel to the library on the 42nd Street side of the park, is an ascending, waxed granite ledge that starts out in one-inch height and grows to be about three feet. It is a part of a handicap ramp that has a three-foot high, mellow round rail going down it, and a seven star handrail that is backside for goofy/ frontside for regular footed people on the other end. The only problem with it is that you have to push up the entire handicap ramp to gather up speed for it. The ramp itself is fairly mellow, although long. There are also several five-stair rails that you need to maneuver a minor curve-into so that you could skate them. They are skateable from both sides.
Bust — ♦♦♦ / Half-and-half: It is usually best after 8 P.M., because most of the surrounding buildings are closed. But there are still guards that will occasionally kick you out. More often than not, you can get at least a half hour session in.
Location: 42nd Street, in between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue. Take the B, D, F, V or 7 to 42nd Street-Bryant Park, and skate half a block east on 42nd Street.
