Hey man, thanks for the glowing review. Quartersnacks for Nike SB available now :) Oh, also regs line of new QS merch should be available very, very soon ♥

Better than a ginger shot!* A quick jolt of Jake Johnson from the GX video to get your day going. (*Disclaimer: probably not better than a ginger shot health-wise, fyi.)

Shout out to The New York Times for using “Fat Kid Spot,” the spot’s proper name, in their article about the park’s reconstruction. Also shout out to the DOT for getting rid of that pesky bridge above the park. Set to open late fall.

Hard to tell exactly where upstate this video is based out of, but spotted a good bit of Rochester spots. “Friction” is a chill eleven-minute video filmed somewhere around that big ol’ state that sits above our small center-of-the-universe city.

It feels like this is the first year in a long time when the frontrunner(s) for SOTY weren’t completely obvious a month out from the award. Boil the Ocean weighs in on the contenders, although gonna have to disagree that the Snoop Dogg song from Away Days ever needed to be skated to. Nor does it alleviate the fact that Busenitz skates in German jk ;) The QS list is Tiago, Max and Daniel Kim duh.

Sometimes you just want to skate in front of Fanelli’s during the lunch rush yaknow? “Mean Streets” volume 4 via the LurkNYC camp is now live.

“You never know: You might say the word f*ggot walking down the street one day and some big old lesbian’s going to hear you, turn around, and punch you right in the face.” Awesome new interview with Brian Anderson that encompasses his entire career, conducted on the occasion of him joining the Anti-Hero roster.

Major pet peeve is websites who don’t post dates with their content, so not entirely sure how old this is, but Boardrap has an interview with the two minds behind The Bunt, both the QS News Desk and the QS Sports Desk’s favorite podcast. (Yo shout out to Grant Patterson for pervading usage of the term “nollie half cab” and F all of U who have a problem with it. Sincerely, everyone who skates at T.F.) The Bunt’s new episode with Kevin Lowry is also now live, btw.

Bobby DeKeyzer x Tumblr remix, or something?

A teaser for Sabotage 5, the last Love Park video ever.

Stuff You’ve Seen: 1) Johnny’s new one, “Sup World,” which signals a bowing out of #skatevideohouse and a sonic foray into the renewed #interest in hardcore shirts? I dunno. 2) “Sage & Sean,” via my neighbor Logan Lara. 3) Lakai AM nearly levels Chelsea jogger. Last week was probably the heaviest “What about so-and-so?”-week for #QSTOP10. Can’t win ’em all and apologies if your faves got left out.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Lol, Javale McGee is going to the Finals this year.

Quote of the Week: “If skateboarding ends today, you still have at least ten years worth of content about the good old days.” — Pryce Holmes

Shout out to ♥ Josh Velez and Torey Goodall ♥, two of my favorite skateboarders on this earth who celebrated birthdays in the past week. Love you guys xoxo.

Better Days

“Dylan Rieder’s contribution to all this isn’t quantifiable, which is partly the point. He rose up with the technical chops and California-dream profile that opened a potential path to a Ryan Sheckler lifestyle enabled by the deepest-pocketed surf and sport gear sponsors. Instead he sought counsel from addled iconoclasts AVE and Dill, pared back his trick repertoire and designed skateable loafers; his Street League runs read like some lyrical argument for quality over quantity, and he got to see the movement he helped shape flow across borders in ‘cherry,’ setting one of the more vibrant arcs for skating so far this decade.” — Boil the Ocean. Rest in Peace Dylan Rieder ♥

A link to the best video part of the 2010s.

There’s a new old bad obstacle at 12th & A. Also the barrier might be gone from TF?

An eight-minute compilation of Strobeck outtakes via his Instagram clips.

Already getting preemptive anxiety about when The Bunt’s season ends, and a new episode is no longer a regular part of the QS office’s work week for a while. The new one with Rick McCrank is great, as always.

Anthony Correa gets Bob Shirt’d. Hoboken Ledges are my favorite Jersey spot too :(

Always had a soft spot for cheesy nineties KTU dance songs. A bunch of Jersey dudes did a summer trip to Montreal. The nollie inward heel is #lol.

Village Psychic dwells on the difficulty of an effective [regs] inward heelflip.

Skateboard Story interviewed Marty Engren of Flippin’ Goods about running a European skate distro based on #small #brandz (Theories, Bronze, QS, others.)

The Watermelon man is throwing an event at the 2nd Nature Park this Wednesday.

Rick + Chico + Gonz + others mess around at Tompkins and elsewhere.

Gavin Nolan has a new welcome part for Mighty Healthy w/ cameos from Connor et al.

Jenkem’s Tim O’Connor Show sat down with Ian Reid and Mike Carroll to talk about Ian’s interesting forays into bondage photography, traveling to Chernobyl, etc.

The best ledges in Manhattan are now partially blocked off by scaffolding. You could still skate a lot of the spot, but half of it is super uncomfortable because you’re always at least four feet away from some bolt sticking out.

On this 10/17, please allow me to point you in the direction of “paint like Play-Doh the alfredo Lambo, the shrimp scampi Chevy and the guts look like egg yolk.”

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: All QS readers who hate sports are probably going to have to put up with a couple Russell Westbrook highlights getting thrown into #QSTOP10s this next half year. 2017 MVP let’s get it.

Quote of the Week: “I’m not sure I could live with somebody who could nollie backside 180 a bump to bar.” — Conor Prunty

Shout out to the boy Jonky Jack.

Our new capsule with Nike SB releases on Thursday, October 13 in skate shops worldwide. It includes a special, #lowkey colorway of the Bruin Hyperfeel, a heavyweight longsleeve pocket tee, and a Lamborghini of a wool coach jacket that exudes grown and sexy confidence. Thanks Ripped Laces for the love

Skateboarding in 2016 is a strange place, and this early 2000s nostalgia is really hitting critical mass man. Whatever incarnation of Osiris still exists re-added Tyrone Olson and Peter Smolik to their team, a year after Smolik aired out the company for denying him a snow camo Navigator and pushing Slimer-colored footwear. “The Storm already passed homie, let’s get the hurricane on and the tornado.” I don’t know dude.

Jesse Alba put together an eight-minute montage that has some cool Max footage.

HD video blog #23 via Johnny Wilson and the L.E.S. Park.

Got a good laugh out of the 5050 on the table attempt at Wall Street Gap. The new edition of Lurk NYC’s “New York Times” outtake reel is now live.

The Bunt’s new one is with Eggs mayor, Brian Delaney.

Mitch Swongo and Associates” is the new one from the Western Mass boys, sure to get you feeling romantic about skating a high curb in a suburban bank parking lot. Includes Ben Bartle footage

They saved Black Blocks. Shout out Atlanta.

On that note, this video is legitimately a bit heartbreaking to watch at points. Chris Mulhern put together a recent montage of Philly skating, which includes footage of people skating the rubble left behind during the Love Park demolition.

Memory Screened did an remix vid of varial flip guy, Tim O’Connor.

“Danny Brady got NO swag. He’s also the team manager, so I’m probably gonna get kicked off for saying that.” Jenkem interviewed the perpetually viral Jamal Smith.

Here’s a chill “Summer Trip to New York” vid from Brixton’s BMT squad.

Kingpin has some photos of that Spanish plaza from last week, in addition to a full #listicle of the best skatepark in Europe that’s good for killing five minutes.

Yesterday, we were talking about how much American currency it would take for us to attempt a caveman boardslide on the rail that goes down from the middle stage at House of Vans. This guy crooked grinded it.

Is it weird this is my fav Gucci verse since he got out? It’s ~playful~ n ~silly~. Also, this came on shuffle the other day and its still sick. “No sneakers, I’m wearing creatures.”

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Basketball is back! Who throws a shoe?

Quote of the Week:

kebabs-on-hooker-lane

This part is way less ledge dance-y than I remember it. It’s more bump-to-cans and bump-to-fences than anything, and surprisingly #current in that regard. The song is still the worst rap song in a skate video ever unless someone skated to Wale.

Start your day off right.

The 2003 magazine is now available. It includes a Quartersnacks feature with Zered Basset about the Vicious Cycle house, which was blocks from Ground Zero in the years after 9/11, and what it was like living/skating down there. We also released a hat with 2003, based on the QS Block Party tee from earlier this year. You can buy the two as a bundle, or individually ;) [Related: The skate feature from 1991.]

The Alltimers Jenkem mix by DJ Shrimp C is now live. Run your bands up.

“Yeet” is the new mini vid from Blue Couch. Features a pretty wide swath of spots around the city, a ton of night footage, and some #very #interesting line choreography at the park on 27th and 2nd Avenue. Also the back tail fakie on the fat flatrail on Water Street was really chill. Generic skate house song idk.

Are backside 360s where both feet kinda leave the board the #new #thing?

The Rios Crew went to Belgrade. I think I got anxiety watching it because of the song and the night footage where you can barely see anything else.

The Bunt has a new pod with Canadian legend, Russ Milligan. This part is still perfect.

Well, this plaza certainly looks fucking insane.

Andrew Wilson, Max Palmer, Mango and Aaron Herrington went on a Korea trip with Carhartt W.I.P., and reminded me to re-watch this old clip Conor Prunty made of Max Palmer’s first time in Korea [with John Choi] :)

Boil the Ocean on the Brian Anderson Vice Sports documentary and non-snitching sentiments being embedded within the skateboard industry. Actually had no idea Wes put Smolik on blast like that either, but shout out to 1998. What a cool year.

Everyone of a certain age holds a special place for Scott Kane in their hearts because of his Bootleg 3000 part. The “Free Lunch” series caught up with him to hear some stories from the Bootleg days :) “Man, you got that flick.”

Someone made a three-song/five-minute Kevin Bradley remix video.

2013 Q.S.S.O.T.Y. Leo Gutman crashes a quinceañera on a boat and skates Chelsea park with a disposable camera for Vice’s “First Person Shooter” series.

Aaron Herrington recreated Anthony Pappalardo’s needle-thread ollie at Blubba.

Josh Davis did a mini profile on Thrasher and Phelps for Hypebeast. I love Rihanna.

“Street Urchins 9” is a new iPhone clip from the summer full of streetside psychos.

Quote of the Week: “We were supposed to make way more money, but we spent it all on limousines.” — Phil Lavoie

Happy birthday Dre. (It was yesterday tho…)

The greatest work of skateboarding fantasy sports is now live. Frozen in Carbonite’s “Song of the Summer” x “Video Part of the Summer” post is as great as it always is, despite a nowhere to be found Young Thug nod. Fwiw, QS S.O.T.S. vote is “Black Beatles.” [multiple Flex bombs; dons XXL Avirex jacket and quarter-inch-too-big fitted]

“Peels” is the new montage from QS-fave, Antosh Cimoszko.

We were talking about why The Bunt is the best, and figured it’s probably because it’s made by skateboarders who follow sports. Sports have been doing this shit for ages. Skaters, not so much. There’s a new one with Paul Rodriguez now live.

Jenkem did mini-interviews with Jahmal, Joel Meinholz and Steve Brandi, and has all their Static 4 sections live. Brb, making Jahmal’s part my homepage.

“We’re all beautiful wastemen.” Breaks has an in-depth interview with Hold Tight Henry, discussing every morsel that goes into making a skate video in 2k16.

unused shit from BG and BG2 BIRDGANG IS THE TRUTH.”

“Smoke Show” is a new 20-minute video out of Westchester from Matt Conner.

Here are a couple bro cam clips from the Adidas demo at Tompkins last week, and a bunch of photos via Transworld. #TFreport overload.

“Aging may be the great skate industry adventure of the ’10s, as grizzled pros test the tolerance of weathered ligaments and brittling bones in an ongoing quest to avoid that unholy wyrm, the Real World, and its most loathsome prison, the Day Job.” Boil the Ocean re: the constant dilemma of whether to quit while you are ahead, as pined from Jason Dill’s recent Playboy interview.

Reviews are generally a lost art in the fickle skateboard universe of today, where opinions have been condensed to “wack, “dope” or “mad wack.” Always nice to read an opinion composed out of full sentences. Speedway Mag reviewed Emerica’s Made 2 video (spoiler: Heath), and The Green Zine reviewed the Jenkem book.

Uh. “The shooter bolted from the scene on a skateboard, heading east on 141st St.”

Quote of the Week
Inquisitive Gentleman: “How do you get used to skating with long hair but no hat?”
Daniel Kim: “You don’t, you just learn how to skate blind.”

What's a harder decision?
