Skateboard Story is a new website by our friend Ben. The site focuses on the people with behind-the-scenes (i.e. not pros) jobs in the skateboard industry. The first installment is with Huf staff photographer, Brian Kelley.

“I’m Tony Hawk and two of my favorite movies are The Naked Gun and The Spy Who Loved Me.” Also on the subject of movies and Tony Hawk, he responded to allegations made in All This Mayhem about the great 900 conspiracy. Had a rough past week for site updates. Just spent a lot of time trying to figure life out, yaknow? (No, not returning to the dark days of 2006-2009 where it was updated three times a month — the modern news cycle couldn’t handle that, r u crazy?)

What a week for wheel company videos! If the future of skate videos isn’t in a Shorty’s Guilty VHS tape or fifteen-second IG edits, maybe sub-two minute wheel company videos could be a guiding light? Jordan Trahan for Autobahn with the non-IG angle of 2014’s 360 Flip of the Year / leading practitioner of boardslide-tech, Jesus Fernandez, with a quick part for Bones Wheels (sidebar: I was recently informed of a weird sect that swears by Bones over Spitfires…is this real?) / Michael “Top 3 Person to See Skate in Real Life” Mackrodt with a part for a potentially unsubtle drug front.

Lurker Lou came through with a wear test for the Osiris D3. Apparently, it’s not much different than skating a foamposite.

Tyler, the Tufty has the opener in the D.C-based “Alley Bar 9.”

New iPhone edit via Rob Gonyon with a bunch of the Bronze guys, and one of the highlights off Barter 6.

Jahmal Williams has a video interview with Japan’s Far East Skate Network about Static 4, along with some indoor park footage afterwards. “I’d rather see Jahmal do a 5050” is the new “I’d rather see Gino push” for the rest of 2014.

ICYMI and also on the topic of Static 4, Chris Nieratko interviewed Josh Stewart for a 17 Things You Didn’t Know About Static 4 feature on Vice, and Live Skateboard Media has yet another interview with Josh, which tackles a lot of unchartered topics from his recent interviews, e.g. music re-usage boundaries in skate videos.

Needless to say, this isn’t the Bobby Shmurda clip everyone has been expecting.

If you started skating around the height of Shorty’s reign as the coolest skateboard company around, you no doubt looked up to Sammy Baptista on account of his #youngestofdacamp status. Well, while we wait for O’Dell to (hopefully) complete the Muska and/or Shorty’s Epicly Later’d, the “My Name Is” series caught up with Sammy to look back on his skate career. (The dude still rips btw.)

It has only been ~two years since the skateboard internet embraced #listicle #culture, and writers have already run out of ideas.

Speaking of ideas and #listicles, ~~here are ten skateboard “innovations” that never caught on~~. [Turns out the entire concept and research behind it was from a series Vert is Dead did this past spring, so consult their posts.] What about Ollie Pop Bubble Gum, Spoonfish Board Locks, Dooks shock pads, bearing “rims,” and Aircraft Skateboards?

First, they use Kevin Bradley’s bump-to-bar grab from “cherry” as a springboard to assess the history of acceptable grabs on street, and though it went online a few weeks ago, this piece on the demise of the pop shove-it is also worth your consideration.

Bronze in King Shit Issue 5.4

In a comment discussing “unsolicited suggestions” for Quartersnacks, someone recommended a “focus on the Bronze creative process.” Lucky for the commenter, a Canadian skateboard magazine put a lens on New York’s finest skateboard video franchise, in a feature named after a 1980s TV-themed Canadian science fiction classic. (Canadians make movies besides Green Apple videos?)

Issue 5.4 of King Shit is now available online in its entirety, and features a quick interview with Vine M.V.P., Peter Sidlauskas. Him and Pat have a more extensive one in the last issue of Dank, but they’re old fashioned and you’re actually going to have to track down a physical copy to read it.

Want another “crazy Shawn Powers story,” beyond the famous BB gun incident? One time at a rave after-party in Berlin (yes, the concept of a “rave after-party” was new to all non-Germans present), he was, let’s say “on one,” and dancing near the DJ booth. Little did the majority of people there know, the electricity for the entire place was run through a single, gigantic power strip and socket, conveniently situated behind that very same DJ booth. Well, he knocked it out of the wall on accident, leaving the entire place in utter darkness and silence.
