R.I.P. Summer ’18

Jk, it’s gonna be 85 degrees on Tuesday, put your Northface away you lunatic.

Rest in Peace, House of Vans, which will begin demolition today. You were good to us for many miserable winters. You were a safe haven on cold nights that otherwise would have been squandered at bars, and an unofficial place to hold listening parties for new Future albums. You will be missed ♥

If you grew up watching old Zoo videos, Jamie Reyes was no doubt the first girl you saw getting footage all over the city. (Jamie is also one of three women to have a Thrasher cover.) Our good friend Jilleen interviewed her about coming up as a female pro in 90s New York, and just how much the industry has changed since.

Not sure on which planet this constitutes as throwaway footage, but here are some “extras” from Nick Michel’s (the dude who boardslide the double rails at Battery Park) World Peath part, including some New York footage at the end. (The Front Street Ledge ollie is cool.)

Tons of insane spots in Jed Anderson’s part from Blue Tile Lounge’s Baby Blue.

Lottery Boiz 3 is a 22-minute-long, one-third Jersey / one-third New York / one-third Worldstar clips video that reminded me how much joy Soulja Boy’s “Make It Rain” has brought to our lives.

Backroom Tour” is a L.A./Hawaii/New York mini video featuring tons of faces that you’ll recognize from Gang Corp edits.

Someone compiled another 12-minute-long batch of Strobeck outtakes from IG.

Big Boi’s favorite song is Nick Jensen’s tune from Eleventh Hour.

That bad manual pad at the UPS building on the westside is no longer skateable. Honestly have no clue how long this has been the case, as we rarely go down this street after the Parks Department 86ed Gay Ledges. Shout out to Zered Bassett and Eli Reed.

Every pull-quote you have ever read about the differences between California: The Home of the Skate Industry and New York: The Summer Home of the Skate Industry, has pontificated about how easy it is to get “caught up” in the, um, “party scene” here. It will be interesting to see how much of California’s competitive advantage will be shaved off after the state legislature voted to extend last call until 4 A.M. last week.

Quote of the Week: “It looks like something a coke dealer in Montauk would wear.” — Sweet Waste

This has always felt like one of those parts that everyone forgets to mention as a favorite (well, everyone besides Aaron Herrington), but the second someone brings it up, people begin fanning out on it. Also don’t know a single person who doesn’t love that song — though maybe not as much as Big Boi hehe.

Good with either Kate Bush or Soulja Boy, tbh ;)

Go Skateboard With Your Friends

Stingwater.

The most unexpected event of 2016 has got to be Fat Joe and Remy Ma legit making a hit twelve years after “Lean Back.” (I still got “Inside the Mattress” on though.) And now, the pressing question of which summer clip will be the first to go…”all the way up” is over ;) The promo for the new HYD video has a bunch of gems in it, including the second most unexpected event of 2016: someone filming a line at the ABC ledges.

Some of this footage appeared in Deathbowl to Downtown and Huf’s Epicly Later’d, but it is the best old footage to resurface probably since “Apple Juice” went online. Huf, Keenan, Liversedge, Bici, etc. circa 1991. Shout out to skate spots.

TWS posted TJ’s full AM spotlight interview and photos.

“My favorite skater is Louie Lopez, and my second favorite skater is Louie Lopez when he gets older.” (Only online for 48 hours btw.)

Blueprint Alumni Update: Some chill Danny Brady footage in the new Slam City Skates clip, and Nick Jensen has a new part to some Red and Meth.

Ripped Laces been posting a good bit of cool shit lately — a requiem for Reekbok’s DGK Workout Lo (which 80% of the people involved with this website were skating in 2005 because that store Clientele [R.I.P.] had pairs for $30) and Kerry Getz on life after pro skateboarding at a #legacyskateshoebrand.

Remember that chill D.I.Y. spot south of Alligator Ledge that was around for like two weekends? Max Hull posted some highlights with the BSA squad.

Sidewalk interviewed Aaron Herrington re: everything.

Zered talks talks about what “vicious cycle” actually meant and photography.

Is Reggaeton the new #skatevideohouse? Diamond Days #88.

Stöösy has a new clip of Jesse Alba skating around Brooklyn.

We were just at the Christiana bowl a week-and-a-half ago. Someone said “that’s where Tom Penny sleeps” re: a sleeping bag in this small zone above the bowl. New [indoor skatepark] Penny footage.

Support Humble Skateboards.

I have no clue what the new Boil the Ocean post is talking about.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Given that Game 4 was like the only “fun” one to watch, it’d be dope if this went seven, but looks doubtful.

Still most played jam of 2k16. Yo can someone please do a full Future + Nard & B mix? Respect to Young Metro but its the most under-appreciated rapper+producer combo.

Make a Lil’ Money, Leave a Lil’ on the Dresser

Kevin is the best.

Slicky Boy featuring Black Dave – “Within the L.E.S.” He loves where he’s from. “If it was ’97, Slicky Boy would probably have records on the indie wall at Fat Beats.”

An *official*, Theories-sanctioned upload of one of 2014’s best parts: Aaron Herrington is Static IV. Buy the video on DVD if you have yet to do so here.

Ride Channel’s best series is back: Skate London with Nick Jensen.

Speaking of London, Southbank has been saved. The space is being preserved for use of skateboarders and “urban arts.” Between this and legalization at the Santa Monica Courthouse, 2014 saw big steps towards rational solutions for keeping skateboarders in the public spaces they spend more time in than any other occupants. Attn cities: The “Skateboarders = skateparks” way of thinking isn’t cutting it anymore.

Cons’ Lockwood bench in Williamsburg is bound to be the most #trending spot on the fall i.e. you’ve already seen it 500x too many on the ‘Gram.

There’s a new, ten-minute video from the Beerics crew. (Spam was their last one.)

It might be the worst basketball court in the world, but it looks like a fun skate spot.

Don’t you see the ‘No Skateboarding’ sign?”

The Top Five Crailtap Top Fives. Also, What did Chief Keef ever do to the SMLTalk staff? He wrote the most important song of our time, guys.

Between all the now-indistinguishable tail-flip combos to go down on the 111th and 7th ledge, a hurricane grind was a nice change of pace for the spot.

If the Endless Bummer video left you needing another PWBC dose, they dropped this bro cam clip last week.

Norway seems like a good time.

Condolences to all poverty-line skateboarders. PBR is getting sold to the Russians.
