What A Time What A Year

Thanks to everyone who supported the QS for Nike SB collaboration, and all of you who came out to the first annual Quartersnacks Cup on Saturday. We have some pairs left in the webstore, though you’ll have better luck on sizes if you’re going for a navy pair ;) Use the code “MONDAYLINKS” to reward yourself for reading the words on this website, and get free U.S. shipping on the shoes until midnight tonight E.S.T. Everything else you gotta cover the shipping on though.

We uploaded the IG story of the contest as a placeholder. Official recap coming soon.

Max Palmer went pro + Aidan Mackey went pro.

“Drifting toward the childhood and the feminine. It’s not always about masculinity, and drinking, and fucking skater guys…Everybody has that inner child or feminine side. It’s cool to embrace that.” Shout out Genny, Conor and Humble. The Fader did a rad feature on their operation that reads different than much of the “small skate brand” stories you see out there. Show them some love.

Surprised that lines through the entire block aren’t more of a thing in footage from Big Screen Plaza. Bret Gregory’s Hombre Hardware part is a good time.

“Just liking something doesn’t support it.” Love Skate Mag did a series of interviews about why all the best skateboard magazines end up going out of print.

Chris Mulhern uploaded another teaser for his upcoming Love Park documentary, 15th & JFK. His comments also seem to indicate that it may end up being a series. “I won’t be able to tell this story in two hours or less, which was my original plan.”

Here’s the winter 2013 edition of Jeremy Elkin’s raw tapes. That double-set pole jam spot Aaron skates at the start is insane. The legend Alex Mosley tried to clear the entire double-set off it ♥ ♥ ♥

75 degrees on Saturday, and none of you scored a Missed Connection? So disappointed in everyone.

Interesting time capsule: Scenes from the DNA Distribution (Alien & Habitat) catalog, circa 2005. I think Waste still has a bunch of the Aesthetics catalogs — been meaning to scan them for like…the past five years.

Want another time capsule? TWS uploaded the first-ever issue of 411.

The moral of the story in this sorta bad / sorta borderline still readable Wall Street Journal article about skate pilgrimages to China is: stop snitching.

Free has an interview with Gustav Tonnesen, perennial #QSTOP10 fave.

Attn: All SVA & Pratt sculpture majors. Jenkem has a chill feature about the world’s most high-con D.I.Y. spot.

Hate it or love it, The Bunt’s new one is with Jamie Thomas.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Let’s give it to the end of Celtics-Bucks Q4.

Quote of the Week: “Could I do the fried shrimp…just with some toast?” — Kevin Tierney’s Diner Order (fyi, the waiter refused to serve him fried shrimp and toast.)

Monday Links Are In Retrograde

If you need affirmation of how incredibly difficult it has been to do these posts over the past two weeks, look no further than the fact that Thrasher is posting astrology content, this girl is still looking for which one of you who spilled coffee on yourself at Herald Square, and apparently, EVERYTHING is “going right” in skateboarding right now…Spring can’t come soon enough.

“I used to be more of a character back in the day and just dive into the river, swimming for the board and making people laugh. I remember Jaime Reyes gagging because I was in there doing backstrokes. They say swimming in that shit helps your immune system.” Village Psychic spoke to Brian Wenning about some of the spots that were instrumental to his skating.

Caddo and Lou gave up on skateparks in 2016. It looks like it has been working out.

…aanndd John Valenti uploaded five minutes worth of B-sides featuring Lou, Caddo and Taylor Nawrocki from his N.Y. Archive video.

TWS uploaded all the raw footage from the Villains dudes’ trip to New York.

Theories resumed Elkin Raw files, which are always heavy on Leo and Aaron footy.

(Three raw clip links in a row, see what I mean? Springtime hellooo where r u…)

PFP5, the latest installment of Michael Sassano’s now long-running Westchester skate video series, will be premiering up in Peekskill on Saturday the 14th. Teaser here.

The crooked rail at Columbus Park is maybe the last place anyone expected to see a slappy front nose 270 A.K.A. the Explore Page, but there it was in Matthew Martin’s Hombre Hardware part.

“Cyclist stabs skateboarder during street spat.” Ok, the “It’s a fucking bike lane, asshole!”-guys are getting a bit out of hand.

Though Hurricane Maria obviously derailed the recent tradition of every skate crew spending January and February in Puerto Rico, the Scumco guys still made it down there for a fun trip video. Tons of Philly Santosuosso footage ♥

The Bunt’s newest episode is with Austyn Gillette.

Oh and, we have a new project with Nike SB coming out. April 14. More info soon :)

Since skate content is running low, here’s a link to a new Peewee Longway video that is four minutes of him reenacting the quaalude scene from Wolf of Wall Street.

And with militant veganism being so fashionable with New York skateboarders right now, here’s an informative article about eating right that isn’t Alex Olson yelling at you for eating a cheeseburger. Jk hi Alex ♥

QS Sports Fuck the NCAA, Respect to the Players-Desk Play of the Week: Gonna be so sick when J.R. Smith is the 2018 Finals MVP this year.

Quote of the Week: “Lowkey if I ever get rich, I’m gonna buy Brick 9.” — John Choi

This clip got posted on April 8, 2007 (Marcus Garvey rails were a new spot then…), and dubbed “The Neverending Winter.” Same mood eleven years later (a lot of these spots are still around), though I wish the quality of the upload wasn’t full trash.

One Day It’ll Be Summer

Photo via @mvrcog. Shout out to Humidity and everyone in New Orleans.

The past week has been BRUTAL for rounding up content pertinent to the interests of our office. Everyone kinda needs it to be warm again — I don’t think a single piece of non-Instagram footage from New York emerged in the last seven days besides Dick Rizzo’s switch front shove over the can wearing a Hardbody hoody in the Huf video

That and Young Jeezy, this website’s longtime spiritual guide, announced that he will be retiring. Though he taught us all we need to know to continue on this journey of life long ago, we can’t deny the melancholy feeling that fell over our staff last week.

How many times did everyone watch *the* Louie Lopez wallie video before they figured out what he actually did?

As they countdown to whenever their video is supposed to be proven real, Quasi has a photo feature over on Heaps Chat from a filming trip down in Miami.

“You already know about that Dirty Ghetto Kids Skateboards but we talking about that Alltimers Skateboards thing.” Wish this video was 5x as long, but Tyler Warren made a wrap-up video of the most recent Alltimers trip down to — you guessed it — Miami.

“As the ‘#MeToo’ movement claims celebrity scalps and forces industries from media to politics into uncomfortable self-examinations, the increasingly upward-mobile skateboarding biz might ponder its own richly checkerboarded past.” Boil the Ocean examines what happens when people come forward about enigmatic, storied skateboarders get revealed to be jocks in today’s contentious climate.

He also wrote some existential shit about “Christmas completes” too.

The Bunt’s latest episode is with onetime QS contributor, Ted Barrow.

We threw some odd sizes and leftovers from the holidays on sale in the webstore.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: While the majority of Americans tuned into 60 Minutes yesterday to watch an interview with a lady of the night about her time spent with an orange man, afterwards, there was a segment that told the story of Giannis Antnteteoektekompo that will melt your heart and make you happy.

Quote of the Week: “Today, I started thinking about how much money I’ve spent on caesar salads in my life” — Pryce Holmes

Happy birthday Connor Champion! ♥

Too Hung To Huck

Truck + mixtape dropping soon

These “new old” clips can be hit-or-miss (often miss), but Tombo’s 2000-2010 one that dropped late last week is an incredible document. It encapsulates the entire first decade of east coast skateboarding in this millennium — brown pants, first-wave cellar door searchers, Justin Barnes cameos, I-Paths, ABC Ledges, etc. Also, why does it still feel like Brandon Westgate has been 20-years-old for the past 15 years?

It’s that time of year when the Barcelona clips really start to roll in. Spencer Hamilton, Dana Ericson, Brian Delaney, Nick Ferro and Wade D. went out to the land of zero skate spots and came back with a sick clip for Grand Collection.

Who Kid has the best part of 2018 so far [with no skate footage.]

Yeah, there’s plenty of novelty clips of dudes skating in Timbs, but this guy hardflipped a triple set in a pair. Honestly can’t wait for the QS x Timberland SB collab.

Jesse made a throwaway iPhone/skatepark clip, but even he admitted it kinda sucks ;)

Our bud Adam Abada wrote an article about the skate scene in Ghana for MC.

Chris Mulhern dropped 6 minutes of loosies in anticipation of his upcoming full-length.

I mean…there’s gotta be an easier way?

Much respect to Uru out in Japan for distributing and spreading the word about QS, Alltimers and other hot skateboard brands in the far east. Skateboard Story has an interview with him about his operation.

Yo, shout out to the damn Nine Club for bigging up the Louie and Tiago remix. FRANKLY, us around the office felt it was among our best work in recent history, but it didn’t seem to get the traction we were envisioning for it. Glad to see it put some smiles on some faces out there. Tell a friend to tell a friend to tell a friend.

Watching Drake take money from people in the backwards version of the “God’s Plan” video hasn’t gotten any less funny in the past three weeks.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Fuck the NCAA. Respect to the players.

Quote of the Week: “Quartersnacks? Is that like a pun about fat quarterbacks?” — Girl on the Street

Just about had it up to here with this winter bullshit…

It was this damnass rock.”

Vert God’s Stop Fakin’ 3 part drops on QS tomorrow

Birdgang 3 is now online *airhorn*

The Bloby videos are still the QS office’s favorite thing going. “Zdroopy,” their new one, is magic. Vince’s front nose 270 out is pure beauty, Karl Salah’s lines are always poetry, and DREWWWWWWW, Franco + Daniel Kim have cameos. No Hjalte tho :(

And the Pop boys also came through with a rad Paris edit that a) avoids a lot of the city’s most oft-skated spots, and b) oddly features a ton of underground footy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jenkem has a great interview with Tyshawn Jones.

…and Skateboard Story has an interview with Calzone maker, Matt Velez.

This is a mega Boil the Ocean post: reflecting on 28 years of Thrasher S.O.T.Y winners…in the bizarro world, where Penny won in ’95, and Tiago won in ’17, etc.

Good bit of new Caddo footage in the friends section of Valenti’s N.Y. Archive project.

So this is the spot Rick Howard would’ve found if he kept skating around the forest after he bumped his head in Mouse.

Our dear friends at Seasons dropped new video over the weekend. That Empire State Plaza spot is lowkey one of the best spots on the east coast now that it’s a go.

I saw a video labeled “Patrik Wallner” and “The Lost Continent,” and my first thought was “damn, these dudes deadass went to Antarctica on a skate trip didn’t they.” They didn’t, but I did have to Google where on the planet they actually went was.

King puts something we’ve all done into writing: Musing on Gino’s Yeah Right! part.

One day Rihanna is throwing you hearteyes across the aisle at #NYFW, the next you’re a crumpled Thrasher tee under a pile of new soccer jerseys. It’s a filthy, fickle business, guys. I don’t believe in nothing no more, I’m going to law school!

Franco???

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Hold up wait a minute

Quote of the Week
Inquisitive Gentleman: “Did anyone pull last night?”
Zach Baker: “No, there were too many beautiful boy friends in there.” #LMB
