It’s cold out there. First posts of…2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.

Here’s a gentle reminder to worry a bit less about ascending in skateboarding’s paid elite this year, and to save some money to travel with your friends to some far-off skate spots and simply have a good time ♥

Pretty stoked to start 2018 off with a whole roster of local videos…

It got uploaded just after last weeks links post went live, but Goodily is a new full-length from Diego Garcia featuring parts from Solomon, Yaje, Pat Hoblin, Jason Byoun, and basically all the people who skate more than you do.

“Banister” is the new ten-minute mini vid from Gang Corp, to which they already uploaded a a half-hour raw files clip of outtakes and kick-outs.

Angel Fonseca and the Bronx crew have a new one called “Money Orders Bill$ 2.”

Lurkers 3 is back online after a brief hiatus as well.

Krooked has a trip to New York raw clip over on the Thrasher site, from what looks like when they were filming for LSD.

Memory Screen compiled what is essentially a “best of pre-2010s skateboarding history” montage to the long version of 411‘s theme song to get you hyped. Leaving out S.J’s front 180 switch crook at J. Kwon is a tad bit preposterous though.

Still a good bit of end-of-the-year stuff floating around on the slim chance that you didn’t have enough of 2017…

Boil the Ocean with more 2017 video part life, and Cafe Creme Blog also has its own list of 2017’s best video parts.

Theories has a ten list for 2017’s “Underground S.O.T.Y.”

Ripped Laces runs down the ten best skate shoes of 2017 (“the bootie, if you’re not used to it, takes a few hours to adjust to”), and the 25 best board graphics of 2017.

It’s 2 degrees outside for the foreseeable future, but we’re getting Sremmlife 3 this month to give us strength. At least you’re not in Montreal.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Porzingis is obviously close (no playoffs…yet, maybe 2025), but Tyson Chandler is still the best Knicks player of the current millennium. Happy to see him up to his old tricks in a warmer climate.

Public Housing Skate Team has a new nine-minute edit up, which includes a Jason Byoun part at the end.

Somehow missed this one when it first came out, but Heavenly is a sixteen-minute video of mostly Texas (?) dudes skating mostly New York spots. They lowkey went in on that Water Street rail-to-rock that Connor lipslid, and switch backside flip manual at the Brooklyn Tompkins park is insane.

When you take #RP-ing your friends’ tricks to another level.

Someone got it. 2) Though it has been an off-and-on bust for the past several years, given all the beef over monuments in the U.S. right now, the cops have fully barricaded the ledges off at Columbus Circle.

August is a historically slow time for the skateboard internet, as it is for Hollywood, so let’s lighten the mood with some non-skate related links! — 1) And you thought the Chinatown fashion was crazy. These bootleg American t-shirts in Asia are insane. 2) Frankly, I’m sick of the Takeoff slander as well. 3) “It is possible to make a difference in the world without yelling.” A high school senior with some timely words for the NYT.

Still late. Oh you thought the slump was over? New #content dropping tomorrow though :)

The roster and categories for the 2017 Dime Glory Challenge have been released. Tiago will be there. You can read Baker’s wonderful recap of last year’s event here.

Manchild has some New York clips in his raw B-sides video from The Flare (check the 5:18 mark), Bobby De Keyzer has some New York clips in his now-online Riddles part, and Paul Young has a quick compilation video from the Bronx Courthouse ledge-to-bank, one of the few New York spots to appear in a 411 opener.

Jason Byoun has a clip from the pool people have been skating in the purgatory abyss of Midwood. Be careful, because people have been getting tickets.

To supplement Mike Arnold’s incredible “Lloyd’s” part, Sidewalk threw together a two part history of England’s second most famous skate spot :)

With one-spot parts trending hard these past several years, Politic’s sister brand, The Vacation, put together a remix video of Ross Norman (a.k.a. the guy Hjalte stole all his tricks from) at Legislative Plaza, one of the few remaining plaza™ spots in the U.S.

An undercover cop wearing DC once asked us what DC stood for. We told him it stood for “Danny and Colin.” I guess we lied. Anyway, Droors Clothing is making a comeback. Alphanumeric up next?

And like that, the trinity of 6th Ave. spots that defined our adolescent years is gone. Though it has been 70% skateblocked since 2011, Ziegfeld is now closed off for renovations. You might be able to skate the barrier off the ledge though ;)

Chris Jones’ Spirit Quest section is now playing over at Free. Really sick Soho noseslide opener, and generally some of the most creative (not in an annoying way obvs) + good-looking New York footage in recent memory. Perfect part.

Mehring put together a rad article about those couple of weeks that the Banks were open for The Skateboard Mag. See everyone there again in 2023 ;)

Every time Dustin Henry footage comes out, I remember that he’s my favorite skater that I’d be O.K. with my non-existent daughter dating. Jake Kuzyk uploaded “Savers,” his first clip since The Antisocial Video dropped last year, which features a bunch of those guys + Alltimers, Dime, etc. affiliates.

Would rather watch T.J. skate flat at T.F. than ________. That half cab flip was bomb.

Looks just like most skaters’ apartments in Chinatown, tbh.

Somehow missed this a week ago, but “Putnam Avenue” is a formidable entry into this year’s “Summer Trip to New York”-clip cycle, featuring a couple Euros.

The internet is a fucking insane place, man.

An Easter-best Conor Prunty — who’s a week away from celebrating the one-year anniversary of “422” — astutely skating a parking block, via Max Hull.

Not sure if him and the Vert God ever made amends, but Taylor Nawrocki’s part from Politic’s First Division video is now online. The Columbus Circle line with the cruise against three lanes of traffic was rad, and in the nineties tradition of going out of your way to end a line off with a flatground trick.

“In New York everybody seems like they have shit that they have to be doing all the time. And when winter hits, you better have shit to do. Otherwise it’s too much to deal with.” Solo has an interview with prodigal Jersey boys, Josh Wilson and Dick Rizzo.

Though they typically make the best videos out, this one isn’t my favorite bit of recent Isle videography (it’s a bit too artsy, even for Isle, to fully get hyped off of). Their section from TWS’ Cinematographer Project: World View video is now online.

New part from Max Van Arnem, who Jake Johnson once said is his favorite skater.

Pat O’Dell’s feature-length documentary, Dumb: The Story of Big Brother Magazine, will be screened as a part of Tribeca Film Festival later this month, but those outside of New York now have a Hulu release date in early June to look forward to.

2017 is full of surprises — even pleasant ones! Just when we were getting worried he stopped going in, perennial QS-office fave and composer of modern times’ finest love song, Rich Homie Quan, dropped a really, really good album last week. (Zillion dollar idea: Lock Quan and Thug in a room, force them to become friends again, give them all the instrumentals from Carti’s new album, boom, world peace.)

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Stoked to see John Wall out there leading and thriving more each postseason, galaxies removed from the McGee/Nick Young/Arenas era Wizards, who were admittedly the funniest basketball team of this generation.
