Chrome Ball’s 900th post is dedicated to the Brooklyn Banks — “A testament to the resourcefulness of skateboarders when they can just be left the fuck alone.” In case you weren’t going on the site several years ago, we posted a series of interviews about the Banks in 2010, after the spot got completely shut down for bridge repairs.

Nick vonWerssowetz’s new video, CCTV, is great. Mostly filmed in New York, save a part in San Francisco. Great spot selection, presentation, and a soundtrack for all those yet to embrace Future / the future. Features Shawn Powers, Adrian Vega, and others. #TRENDWATCH2013: Televisions

TVs are the first must-have commodity in the impending 2013 “Trip to New York” cycle (slated to begin in April.) With recent studies indicating that Americans watch up to 3 1/2 more hours of TV on computers than on actual televisions, many TVs are ending up in the trash. Naturally, northeastern skateboarders who love skating garbage took notice, and TVs began to gain on the refrigerator’s marketshare in the “Most Frequently Skated Household Appliance” category. #Trendwatch2013 analysts expect that tricks on televisions will graduate from mere novelties, to modern-day staples of the “authentic” New York web clip checklist. Tricks on abandoned cars and wallrides on porous surfaces (e.g. chain link fences) have also been able to make this leap in recent years.

Could this be one giant skaters-go-to-art-school-and-get-crazy-ideas-from-smoking-too-much concoction intended to be a critique of America’s TV addiction? Is it performance art? Are we on the brink of scanning Craigslist curb alerts for free TVs instead of thinking about spots to skate before we call our friends on Saturday mornings? Did @SeinfeldToday fall off? Is there an industrious crew of ~~skaters~~ performance artists intent on making the first-ever all-TV skate clip? And if so, will they consider Kingpin Skinny Pimp, Yo Gotti and 8ball’s bass-heavy masterpiece, “TVs,” for music supervision? Does anyone like Criminal Intent more than SVU?

The answer to all of these questions, except the last two, is probably “yes.”

Obama For Mankind, We Ready For Damn Change, So Let the Man Shine

Can we get this stupid election over with? And preferably not elect a psycho? Put on for your country.

This is the best skate-related thing to go online in 2012: “Here’s to Feeling Good All the Time.” John McGuire does a wonderful Kramer homage in tune with the hair, outfits and mannerisms. While a lesser fan would have just looped the theme song, the geniuses behind this clip dug deep for the background music that was used in the scene where Kramer and Newman make their own sausages. Be on the look out for David Puddy’s 8ball jacket and a quick Death Blow teaser. “All signs point to yes!”

The most anticipated avant-Galen film event of the year: “Free Buzz.”

Slap is returning to print for a special ad-free edition to commemorate its 20th anniversary. How is everyone supposed to complain about skate-related minutiae on a bunch of stapled-together pieces of paper though?

Spot Updates: 1) The building mounted chairs in the landing space for the frontside for regular three-stair ledge at “the grey ledge spot.” Going to be tough to skate now. 2) The rail is back on the backside for regular side of the FedEx six-stair ledge.

Rest in Peace Reggie Destin. Reggie’s friends are continuing their fundraiser to cover hospital costs and services. Sam McGuire and Joe Hammeke, two midwest-based photographers, are selling prints of skate photos for the same cause. (This shot of a back tail on the Sundial Ledges in Chicago is great.) Our friend Martin Davis is also printing a run of the original Push Skateshop tees to raise money.

The NBA season starts back up tomorrow. James “I Disappeared from the 2012 Finals” Harden got traded to the Houston Rockets, thus ending any sort of QS Sports Desk pipe dream scenario where the Bulls amnesty Carlos Boozer and somehow end up with Harden, or Oklahoma extends Harden’s contract and trades Westbrook for a guard who actually passes to the best scorer in the NBA (ideally Rondo, but you know, these are mere fantasies.) Brace yourself for a sportswriter’s dream / New York fan’s nightmare of a Lakers-Heat Final. In other news, 50% of the Knicks roster is already hurt, and Jeremy Evans had the best play of the pre-season.

This is a great news. Big congratulations to Rob Campbell and best wishes for his future role as the director of skateboarding for Open Road.

Joseph Delgado’s part from the Poisonous Products video is now on YouTube. All lines, and some Lil’ Kim on the soundtrack. Good to see Queens locals still skating actual Flushing and not just the Maloof Park. (While on the topic: has anyone skated to “Drugs” before? It’s easy to forget that Lil’ Kim somehow ended up getting one of the greatest rap beats of all time. These dudes did it way more justice though.)

Stupid Slap Message Board Thread #588,684,693: “Most hipster skate parts?” Humorously enough, they post Brett Nelson’s Rich Mahogany part, then go on to say Brett Land’s part is more “hipster”-ish. Then, the topic diverges into how Cardiel’s Sight Unseen part isn’t as good as everyone says it is…

If you ever skate Tompkins, you’ll recognize a handful of people with parts in this 21-minute iPhone video from John Kim.

The goal of QS is to eventually transition from a skateboard website into a chain of strip club skateparks throughout the south. We have fifty-page business plans and everything, but it looks like DGK’s “Playground” park beat us to it. Back to square one.

Spot Updates: 1) You may have noticed that some bandits cut off the rail at FedEx a few weeks ago. Well, it’s back. 2) Similar story…some bandits unknobbed the Dag 10-stair ledge, a tree fell on it, scaffolding blocked it off, and now it’s knobbed again. 3) There’s a food truck at Lenox now. Interesting that it takes a food truck to exemplify how oblivious people are to getting in the way of skateboard-related pursuits.
