Never Drop That Alcohol

coachella crew

Happy internet list season! Best Instagram Post by a Pro Skateboarder — 2014. #coachellacrew

15 seconds of unseen Jake Johnson footage from a 2007-ish Adidas footage tape.

Ishod Wair’s Paych part in Paych. While you’re at it, give Paych a vote for “Best Indie Video of the Year” over on the Transworld site. Purchase here.

Volume #10 of the cell phone footage from the Paych dudes. Based on the increasing ratio of skateboarding : night club footage in these, the “Most Productive Crew” title will no longer be relevant by February fashion week. Maybe they make it to September.

Boil the Ocean on the most controversial backside flip to never happen. Who has a nice TV and wants to host a Plan B premiere tomorrow? Preferably below 14th Street.

Not in the habit of referring people towards L.E.S. Park footage, but the shit Brandon Westgate does in his Ricta commercial (Ricta!) is pretty wild.

“Nah, I never had [360 flips] like that. Never over something or down anything. Never consistently. There would maybe be a day here or there where I would have them lovely on flatground but then they’d be gone. I could never hold on to a good tre flip.” All of us “I learned how to 360 flip 100 times, but forgot how to 360 flip 101 times”-people have something in common with Gino Iannucci! Similarities end there :(

Far from comprehensive, but Kingpin has a brief R.I.P. Para-lel edit. (Also: Relevant.)

500 Degreez-centric #musicsupervision is cool. The end of that clip isn’t.

TWS has a detailed interview with Danny Renaud about coming back from the dead. Dude would probably make a good Epicly Later’d.

Skate Witches 2k14: Brujas, the all-girl Latina skate crew from The Bronx.

Get me back to Paris.

The new Lurk NYC video, Strangers, will be premiering at Sunshine Cinemas on Wednesday, December 10 at 8 P.M. Flyer here.

Spot Updates: This might be a few weeks late — like, who really even skates downtown anymore? — but the slanted ledges at Battery are back. The ground is a little worse, and the runways a bit narrower due to some new pre-knobbed benches in the way. They even threw in a four-stair and two new manual pads. No telling if it’s a bigger bust now, but the “No Skateboarding” signs are all still up.

Johnny Wilson still trying to pretend like he uses his VX1000.

Also, some guy compiled a bunch of Cyrus Bennett’s footage from the more recent video blogs and put it over a more recent Migos song.

As far as “Summer Trip to New York” clips go, the skating in this is tops by non-pro team clip standards. These dudes somehow skate every spot in New York (e.g. when was the last time someone filmed a line at Breezy Ledges? Jeff Pang in 1997?) Obligatory Wu-Tang song included.

“The new Transworld video, Outliers, as seen through the prism of the Malcolm Gladwell book of the same name.” Frozen in Carbonite looks through some prisms.

Cario Foster on his Reason part and Danny Montoya on his incredibly ahead-of-its-time One Step Beyond part. “For the record, filming is hard.”

Lucas and J.B. in the Cliché U.K. tour clip.

Twenty seconds of “lost” Jake Johnson footage. 360 flip noseblunts, etc.

Jordan Trahan apparently kickflipped into the Washington Square Park fountain.

We can officially verify that the Plan B video exists, and that PJ Ladd does not have a part in it. The joke is dead. Except how is Hoboken going to get a premiere and New York isn’t? Was really looking forward to getting drunk in the theater for that one :(

This is what your 2015 MTA fare hike is going to look like.

QS Holiday Gift Guide: This pixel print of skate shoes from the nineties is chill and this Hans Moleman x Muska Silhouette deck is amazing. “My name is Hans. Drinking has ruined my life. I’m 31 years old!”

Spot Updates: 1) It happened months ago, but finally just got around to updating the spot page…the ledge-to-flatbar in Battery had its runway knobbed. Some Japanese guy with quick feet will still get a trick on it by next summer. 2) The grate at Union Square that people propped up to skate over the pillar is gone. It’s a gap now. 3) The Blue Banks in Albany are being turned into an official skatepark. Even if it ends up being some pre-fab crap, at least you get to skate the banks worry-free now. Funnest spot north of Tompkins :)

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: 6′ 3 Reggie Jackson v.s. 7′ 2 Brook Lopez.

Quote of the Week: “The first thing I thought when I started watching that catcalling video was, ‘Oh no, I hope I’m not in this.'” — T-Bird

No idea what the point of this will be, but yeah, it’s there for now.

Who Do You Skate With in the City When I’m Not There?

Season starts this week :) Daylight-saving time ends next week :(

1) You can buy copies of Johnny Wilson’s new video, Paych, for $10 here. Labor is supposed to be getting copies this week. The DVD also includes Beef Patty. 2) Living up to the “Most Productive Crew” trademark, those dudes already have another video on the way. 3) It’s mad sad that the VX is dead yo.

Amazing: Drunk dude calls cops on skateboarders, ends up getting arrested himself.

The bro Lil’ Lui has a video check out on the TWS site. Features footage of the 29th Street ollie from last week’s Monday headliner image.

Can’t remember the last time a part ended with a switch front shuv. What a great trick.

Not only are clubs likely seeing higher revenues on Tuesdays, skate videos are also getting made to commemorate 2014’s most on-trend day of the week.

SMLTalk listi-cized their five favorite friends sections. A notable snub / personal favorite is the one at the end of Mixtape, which pretty much nails the vibe you want any friends montage to have, not to mention features maybe the second best 360 flip ever done. Also, the Blind section from Virtual Reality belongs there off G.P. Mariano’s trick is incredible no matter what decade you’re talking about.

New Juicy Elbows clip up on YouTube. The ender is wild.

The 181st Street Park got a fresh paint job for its first birthday:

Rick Howard is on magazine covers again.

Gino + Dill + Kool G Rap + Manolo remix to commemorate new partnerships.

Backing the #musicsupervision in the new Matt Miller part.

Skating for Polar seems like it requires more heavy lifting than any other sponsorship.

Hjalte v.s. Aaron Herrington v.s. Joseph Delgado v.s. Brian Clarke in S-K-8.

Happy Halloween from Quan and Thug.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Bogut figured out how to throw mini Kevin Love passes now?

Rest in Peace Matt Reason. One of the main reasons people use the phrase “east coast” as an adjective to describe skateboarding.

How About Now

lui

Lil’ Lui, big ollie. Photo by Brian Kelley. Remember when you could actually skate that spot? :(

What?

Okay?

Sure? (Speaking as objectively as possible, is Daewon the most *talented* skateboarder ever in terms of impossibilities made realities on a skateboard? And why does he look like a club promoter in all his new footage?)

The Deaf Lens has a new interview with Rick Howard about 20 years of Girl/Choc.

Omg noooooooo. R.I.P. the Sony DCR-VX1000 1996-2014. Paych DVDs soon.

Some useless #listicles to click through: 1) 18 Skateable Sculptures in the United States. “We, like, see the world differently dude.” 2) The Ten Longest 5050s. 3) The “Best” (Only?) Skateboarder Cameos in Movies. Wasn’t Koston in Her?

The Skartorialist is back after a long hiatus.

Dipset-tinged music supervision is also apparently back, after a few years of falling out of fashion. Now, who’s gonna skate to “Catfish?”

Muckmouth constructed a a useful graph of skateboarding’s collective coming-to-terms with Ryan Sheckler. Fam turned up on them jump ramps though…

Newport, the Banks & Javitz Center, circa ~1999ish?

Some Death Video “lost tapes” footage. These kids are sick because they still skate midtown. Respect for putting up with the frustration. Many have given up on it :(

The new Transworld video, Outliers, will be premiering at Sunshine Cinemas (Houston and Forsyth) tomorrow (October 21.) There will be three showings: 7, 8:15 & 9 P.M. Haven’t been this excited for a TWS video in a very, very long time, but it’s mostly due to Zered and Cromer. You can grab tickets at most skate shops. More info here.

A restaurant adjacent to some recently concreted cobblestones pours kitchen grease all over the banks now. You’re going to get hurt if you try skating them.

Always wondered how Times Square peep shows are still open in 2014…

Stop going to college.

“I’m so happy Future broke up with Ciara so he could make music like this again.”

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Kobe might kill someone this season.

Quartersnacks colorway Alltimers Lambo cruisers now available at Supreme NY. They have tees, too. Webstore is still cracking, but we’re sold out of cruisers.

Skateboard tricks are sorta just stupid now.

Diamond Days #76. This one is fairly street.

New Ishod and Seaport 5.1-heavy video blog from Johnny Wilson and friends.

Blonde Reider is pretty sick. 99% sure he’s the first one to skate the second level of the Columbus Circle statue ledge from flat. Someone good should noseslide it.

You probably caught the Puleo and Wenning sections from In Absentia, but you might’ve missed the more under-the-radar parts from Rodney Torres, who has always been a bit ahead of his time, especially by east coast standards, and Andy Bautista, which contains tons of Logic #6 B-sides. R.I.P. Hoboken Ledges.

“This is a bad example, but you know like in Dodgeball, when the evil team comes out and they’ve got the best uniform, and everyone else has mixed shirts? I like that look.” Complex has a rather detailed interview with Lev Tanju.

DC Shoes is five years late on trying to merge the scene with the board. Who on their team is even partyboy-enough (in the #nyfw sense of the word) to legitimately be the face behind that shoe? Is Nyjah poised for a more fashionable rebrand?

This is what skateboarding in Alaska looks like.

The landing for that first 360 flip is literally cobblestones.

The Gonz doesn’t like Brooklyn, and Kevin Lowry cruising around non name brand New York spots is a fun watch. (Do any NBA fans find it confusing that there is a Canadian skateboarder named Kevin Lowry, and a basketball player on a Canadian team named Kyle Lowry? Or is this only a problem in the QS office?)

VHS Mag has a new interview with the first or second best skater from New Jersey, Quim Cardona.

“Best duo since Outkast” might be a hyperbole, but who really cares.

Quote of the Week: “We wanted to send PLG [Pierre-Luc Gagnon] some Dime gear, and asked him what size he was. He goes, ‘I’ll take larges for skating, and mediums for the club.'” — Antoine Asselin

How long is that new T.F. box going to stick around? How long until there’s a 24-hour police patrol at that new concreted spot downtown? Sorry for so many questions today. We are feeling very #existential.
