Back To School Fashion Heatwave Week

Loved this addition to the recent trend of one-spot montages: “Mecca: A Everson Museum of Art Video” by Lukas Reed, which documents the life of the still-standing Syracuse, NY spot A.K.A. “Love Park if you squint.” Everything from the nostalgic landings in the shoveled out snow piles, to the circa-2002 internet titles/music supervision, to the unexpected Austyn Gillette cameo — the entire video is a fun watch. “Goodwine” is a sick last name.

Jesse Alba put together a montage with some footage he had leftover.

Max Palmer continues to be an honorary Atlantic Drifter via Jacob Harris’ Taipei one-off, “Stuck Inside a Film.”

“Crop Circles” is an amazing post-Love Philly/Pennsylvania/Delaware video that barely even has any Muni footage! Tons of seldom-seen spots, and some great skating from newer names.

Lispenard Street is #trending. Here’s “Mean Streets Volume 12” via LurkNYC. (See also that Cons Brazil clip from a few weeks ago.)

Nik Stain, Kyon Davis, and Casper Brooker skate Southbank together.

Shout out to everyone being themselves. The Bunt’s latest is with Sinner.

Here’s Nate Grzechowiak’s part from the Buffalo-based Jeb video (still a good bit of city footage.)

#TFreport: Kyota made an all-Tompkins montage thanks to all the N.Y. Ramp Co. obstacles + another non-T.F. montage last week.

Canal Wheels put together a quick clip from the long steps portion of Borough Hall to last year’s Sahbabii even though we got new Sahbabii last week :)

Watching Paris footage and not being in Paris is kinda how I imagine people going through relationship shit feel when they listen to Drake. Here’s montage #35 from the POP Trading boys, filmed during the last #PFW.

Boil the Ocean on the future of the whole “skateboarders are the original gentrifiers” thing.

Aquemini turns 20 this month, so here is a spottieottiedopaliscious 4-Star tradeshow promo from 1998.

We’re going to start issuing an annual “Non-Skate Journalism” award on QS each December, and this is the frontrunner: Toronto spent $31 million dollars effectively skate-stopping trash cans, but for raccoons looking to eat garbage — only for the raccoons to conquer the trashcan lock mechanism that was said to be “impossible” for them to open (poor guys don’t have thumbs!) If you — as a skateboarder — can’t relate to this tale of raccoon prosperity in the face of drudging humans trying to keep them from having fun, then you are a heartless coward.

Quote of the Week: “I wouldn’t wish a week in North Hollywood on anyone.” — Jesse Alba

Good luck with the school year ♥

Getting There, Getting There, Getting There…

This is perhaps the *SECOND* (!) time in this skateboard media enterprise’s modern history that there has been THREE :( Monday Links post to hold the five slots on the homepage. We’re working our way out of this slow news cycle + backend work and should be good to roll with more than two continuous updates to share with you by this time next week. (Hopefully! …but actually!) In the meantime, please enjoy the above image of Justin Henry and Dustin Henry. Photo by Zach Sheats.

O.J. has a cruiser clip with the actual best skater, Jawn Gardner.

Frog collaborated with Noah on a run of printables, and made this six-minute clip fetauring Jesse Alba, Chris Millic, office favorite Krazy Frankie, and Pat Gallaher, with spiritual guidance from self-help guru, Jason Byoun.

“Oh yeah, I remember what that comment said actually. It was like, ‘My 5 year old cousin could make this on Microsoft Paint.’ Do you actually use Microsoft Paint?” Noah also has an interview with Chris about the history of the always-triggering Frog factory.

The Canal crew has a new edit filmed exclusively at the Grand Street basketball courts (I guess we’ve all just been forced to come to terms with that spot to the point of it being an acceptable place to spend an entire day, huh?), and an interview about their brand over on the Office mag site.

…aanndd the latest round of Elkin raw tapes has footage from the spot before its colorful make-over, and good God did it look way more depressing five years ago.

Free has somewhat of an interview / feature about how they came to “get” Sean Pablo, plus The Shady One™ filmed a bit of a “Day in the Life” montage with him on the occasion of his Cons colorway. Shout out to meeting at T.F. West, skating over the Williamsburg Bridge, only to skate back to regular T.F.

Cleardata” is a twelve-minute video that offers a glimpse into what post-apocalyptic Philadelphia skateboarding looks like in 2018.

This one of a bunch of upstate N.Y. dudes doing some non-obvious Paris spots earned a couple rewatches. Always nice when a trip video feels like something more than just a mere footage dump.

E.J. told me Antwerp was his favorite city at one point in time. The #RC-enthusiast POP Trading boys made it a point to film their entire new fall launch montage there.

Under a minute of Alltimers good vibrations via Dana Ericson ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, Chinatown Manny is definitely back in everyone’s rotation

Quote of the Week: “Scootering is a statement.” — Zach Baker

Never need an excuse to post this guy’s music, but Max always somehow sounds better when the weather is like this.

Frog Skateboards, Stingwater, Heineken & Hjalte Halberg Present — Came to Paris For Nothing

After millions of dollars spent on airfare and accommodations, nearly a full day of traveling over sea and land, and much meticulous planning that it takes to get dozens of boys across the Atlantic, we were in Paris asking the immortal question that guides our lives: “Where are we gonna skate today?”

About 70% of the way through the trip, Nolan revealed that the only reason he swam to Paris (he’s not a big fan of planes) was for the purpose of skating the famous colored manual pad spot seen in a myriad of skate videos growing up. Much to his dismay, when those “where are we gonna skate today?”-convos were taking place and the spot would get mentioned, the proceeding thoughts were familiar…

“I think that’s still under scaffolding?”

“Are there other spots around there?”

“It’s not as good as it looks in videos.”

“We gotta take a train to get there…I kinda wanted to push around today.”

See, it doesn’t matter where you are, or how many new spots you haven’t grown bored of skating you’re surrounded by. The struggle is real no matter where you go. The only difference is you might not be able to kick it with Sophie that day.

Watch below to see if we made it, or if we did in fact, come to Paris for nothing.

YouTube blocked the video is Canada on account of the fire George Michael song. Canadians!!! Here is a Vimeo link.

Edited by Hjalte Halberg. Features Keith Denley, Kadeem Walters, Nolan Benfield, Daniel Kim, Jesse Alba, Chris Milic, Hjalte Halberg, Andrew Wilson, and Zach Baker.

Too Hung To Huck

Truck + mixtape dropping soon

These “new old” clips can be hit-or-miss (often miss), but Tombo’s 2000-2010 one that dropped late last week is an incredible document. It encapsulates the entire first decade of east coast skateboarding in this millennium — brown pants, first-wave cellar door searchers, Justin Barnes cameos, I-Paths, ABC Ledges, etc. Also, why does it still feel like Brandon Westgate has been 20-years-old for the past 15 years?

It’s that time of year when the Barcelona clips really start to roll in. Spencer Hamilton, Dana Ericson, Brian Delaney, Nick Ferro and Wade D. went out to the land of zero skate spots and came back with a sick clip for Grand Collection.

Who Kid has the best part of 2018 so far [with no skate footage.]

Yeah, there’s plenty of novelty clips of dudes skating in Timbs, but this guy hardflipped a triple set in a pair. Honestly can’t wait for the QS x Timberland SB collab.

Jesse made a throwaway iPhone/skatepark clip, but even he admitted it kinda sucks ;)

Our bud Adam Abada wrote an article about the skate scene in Ghana for MC.

Chris Mulhern dropped 6 minutes of loosies in anticipation of his upcoming full-length.

I mean…there’s gotta be an easier way?

Much respect to Uru out in Japan for distributing and spreading the word about QS, Alltimers and other hot skateboard brands in the far east. Skateboard Story has an interview with him about his operation.

Yo, shout out to the damn Nine Club for bigging up the Louie and Tiago remix. FRANKLY, us around the office felt it was among our best work in recent history, but it didn’t seem to get the traction we were envisioning for it. Glad to see it put some smiles on some faces out there. Tell a friend to tell a friend to tell a friend.

Watching Drake take money from people in the backwards version of the “God’s Plan” video hasn’t gotten any less funny in the past three weeks.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Fuck the NCAA. Respect to the players.

Quote of the Week: “Quartersnacks? Is that like a pun about fat quarterbacks?” — Girl on the Street

Just about had it up to here with this winter bullshit…

When Quarters Cry

Just as promised

Kurt Havens, the Academy Award winning filmmaker behind 2012’s Twomanji video, is back with another full-length VHS / Hi-8 / old camera (?) project entitled Ballhog. It’s pretty much a vintage-tinged Bronze B-cam video from the past couple years, and features iconic parts from Mark Humienik, Billy McFeely, and Josh Wilson.

Gang Corp, Frog, Humble, The Skate Kitchen, and Hardbody all have spreads in the new issue of Japan’s Eyescream mag. Probably won’t do you much good if you can’t read Japanese (the Google Translate camera feature is sick though), but still rad to see nonetheless. Shout out to everybody.

Oh, and Genny posted the raw photos from the Humble pages.

Jesse Alba made a loving tribute to our #MCM, Nolan Benfield, and then Frog Skateboards went and posted some quick extras from their trip to China last year.

Show me, don’t tell me.

Damn, imagine wanting to skate the Veteran’s Memorial 12 that bad? ;) jk. Marco Kada covered a lot of ground across the city and outlying areas (who even remembers the last trick on the Jersey City Hamilton Park five block spot…Zered’s Vicious Cycle part?) for his rad “New York Nice Guy” part.

Habitat has a clip of Fred Gall’s final session at Shorty’s.

Listen to your mom, but also listen to Zalfa — who once ruptured his crank skating the Big O in Montreal, peed blood, went to the E.R., came out a few hours later, and shot a photo of Max Palmer while wearing a bloody hospital gown. He has an interview over on Skate Jawn. Don’t ever ask me who my favorite photographer is again.

“You know he’d get his mental health check and go straight to Ralph and drop two grand on a fucking moleskin pair of trousers or something.” Some Monday motivation for anyone currently living on a couch in an apartment they don’t pay rent for: Free interviewed Lev Tanju about all the cool shit Palace has been doing in London these past couple years.

There’s a Bobshirt documentary. Can’t tell if there’s new footage tho.

Some more Elkin extras from Leo Gutman’s 2013 Q.S.S.O.T.Y. run.

Old parts, new uploads: Connor Kammerer in Spirit Quest + Dustin Eggeling in Static 4. This is a really pointless observation, but it’s kind of wild that the last Static video is already almost four years old.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: And then Russ thought…”fuck that overtime shit.”

Quote of the Week: “My celebrity crush is Ali from Travis Porter.” — Pad Dowd

Can’t say the QS Rap Desk has actively been checking for new Wayne songs these past ~five years, so a bit “late” on this one (came out on Christmas), but wowwwowow.

There’s a fire remix video dropping on here tomorrow Wednesday ♥
