This one was pretty heartwarming: Monster Children has a mini doc on Josh Kalis’ relationship and history with the city of Chicago. I’ve seen that street gap kickflip a hundred times before and still said “oh my God” on this go-around. (Maybe Ride will finally stop asking us why Chicago isn’t a bigger deal in skateboarding with this one?)

It’s grey out there, so here’s the clip of Muska hugging a tree to put a smile on your face (it’s tied with this video of like a 500 people rapping every single word to Glizzy’s verse on “Crew” for 2017’s best byte of life-affirming video.) It was a pleasure to watch this new season of Epicly Later’d — Andy Roy defending Jesse Paez was funnier than any bit of scripted comedy that someone could come up with, and if your heart didn’t melt at Reynolds’ relationship with his daughter and Kader, then your insides probably look like the Juicy J “Stay Fly” shirt.

Don’t ask James to trade a nice board for a 2014 Go Skate Day deck that has been sitting next to your radiator for three years. Village Psychic talked to the Labor C.E.O. about skate shop etiquette.

Hotel Blue has a new one over on Thrasher, which has an intro part (right?) for Juan Virues, and a pretty beast Charles Deschamps section at the end.

Yo the new full-length Gang Corp video is incredible. Impossible to watch it and not get hyped. Made me wanna go to midtown and hit spots we haven’t tried skating in years.

Brian Kelley has spent the past couple years searching for all sorts of ephemera from New York City’s transit system. His collection became this massive book that is essentially the unofficial history of MTA merch. Worth every penny for any sort of New York history nerd or graphic design geek.

“What’s the hardest trick in skateboarding?” “Getting a job.” There’s been a relatively decent batch of content about skateboarding’s most difficult maneuver floating around this past week: Heath Kirchart ranks all the jobs he’s had since retiring from pro skateboarding + Brandon Westgate talks about lumber mills and cranberries.

Brian Panebianco made an eleven minute documentary that highlights one of the bonds that formed between a homeless Love Park local and the park’s skateboarders.

The new Gang Corp edit is sick.

“Unlike Alien Workshop, DC recognized a new generation preparing to don swishy pants and opened its East Coast flow spigots, and now spot-searching Droors-endorser John Shanahan helps DC find a path after long years of wandering.” Boil the Ocean dwells on how DC is re-routing its approach to the skate shoe landscape.

Bill Strobeck put together a VX best-of edit from roughly 2000-2004 for Thrasher.

Gotta respect a “D.C. to Boston” edit that completely skips New York. This place can be a real pain in the ass, but at least we got an hour at Big Screen Plaza yesterday.

Skate Jawn made a Glory Challenge edit with a bit of street skating mixed in.

Spot Updates: The banks under the 125th Street 1 train station have been under construction for a year or two. The oft-skated ones on the south side of 125th have a massive curb at the start now, but you can skate one on the north side of the street — although someone’s going to need to throw some Bondo on that crack right before it.
