Enough Moncler For 16 Winters

The aliens took it.

The webstore is now open with holiday goods. Arriving at European shops this week. Available in U.S. and Japan shops now. Arriving Korea, Canada and Australia next week. Thanks every for the support, really means a lot ♥♥♥ Stockist list here.

You’ve seen Keith work a 9-to-5, now see him shred Pulaski!

With Canada Day a mere seven months away, let’s get the party started with some videos from our neighbors to the north! Our bud and Dime logistics extraordinaire, Guillaume Thibault, has a new 20-minute video entitled Parkour. If Dime videos are Baker vids, this is like…a Shake Junt video…or something? It’s a good time. And the Swiss O.G. 2000 boys linked up with Clubgear for a ten-minute video entitled Cialis. Stoked for the comments to get flooded with spam links for dick pills. Perfect.

Others are less enthused about Canada Day being around the corner. “Absolutely No Dime Clothing. Shit is ugly AF.”

House of Vans is slated to close after this coming summer :(

“I mean, you can’t go too far with it. You don’t want to make it perfect, you know? But fixing a spot, modifying a spot is all right. As long as you don’t go too far with it.” New Jersey Governor, Fred Gall, talks to Village Psychic about the unwritten codes behind fixing crusty spots and finding guns stashed at skate spots.

Kevin Coakley wants all da smoke. Theories is also hosting a remix contest for his Traffic part. Shout out to the Jason Byoun remix contest though.

Dirt River” is a montage out of Copenhagen with a lot of friends in it. Cameos from Nik Stain, Hjalte, Chris Millic, etc.

I think this new “Summer Trip to New York” iPhone edit is actually the first footage of someone skating the back hubba on the Amsterdam side of Lincoln Center? Or no? The runway is shit but surprised more people haven’t gone for it.

Worried about everyone’s mental health if and when another store opens up at the liquor store bump in Bed-Stuy. Sleep Skateboards has a new, mostly-NY montage.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Honestly didn’t watch any games last week, but here’s Demarcus Cousins explaining the plot of Titanic, although this will forever be the best piece of Titanic-related #content.

Quote of the Week: “I wonder how good Jesse would be if he took skateboarding seriously. Probably like…Shane O’Neill.” — Corey Rubin re: Jesse Alba

Pucci is Different From Gucci

Late start to the day. Congrats to Yaje Popson, one of remarkably few T.F. native sons to have the distinction of his name on a pro board. Proud of you bud ♥

Happy Birthday Matthew Perez. Proud of you too ♥ …I think…

The largest tall tee Wade Desarmo ever wore was a 5XL. That and an examination of why so few objectively superior skateboarders make it out of Canada in his interview with a competing podcast. Even if you’re not a “Nine Club” guy, this one was great.

As far as our *favorite* skate podcast goes (and the one Wade is currently M.I.A. from because nobody is “in the streets” in Toronto…), The Bunt’s latest is with Stefan Janoski. Always felt in the minority of preferring his Inhabitants part over Mosaic, but good to to know it’s his fave too ;)

More podcasts?! You may remember a simpler time back in 2012 — before the world began to implode — when our biggest concern was a man named Louis Sarowsky forever ruining the act of skateboarding via a Mountain Dew-sponsored reality show…He has a new interview over on “Max White Presents.”

Vincent Touzery’s part from Spirit Quest / his 5Boro days is now online.

The angel who put together the Jesus remix from last weeks’ links rounded up all of Mike Carroll’s B-sides since Pretty Sweet and edited a four-minute part with some garnishes from the past. Rick Howard next or are those too few and far between?

Philly Santosuosso has a new part out for Humidity’s collaboration with Reebok. He also has a photo with Figgy Fresh. ♫ Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls… ♫

Akira Mowatt has a new half New York, half California part for Ultra Corp Skateboards.

Between the Kevin Taylor part from a month ago and Mike Maldonado dropping a new one at the age of 41, Frozen in Carbonite’s piece on the Philadelphia Sports Mythos rings truer by the day in skateboarding. Where’s Tony Montgomery at?

Enjoyed this piece on why the death of DVD will haunt consumers. Skateboarding has the benefit of skate shops preserving community — unlike film, which lost its cultural hubs with the death of video stores (R.I.P. Kim’s) — which is all the more of a reminder to give your shop some money today.

Ricard Napoli’s new video, Making It Happen, premieres tonight in Williamsburg at 8.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Didn’t actually watch it, but this is the only All-Star game highlight we cared about.

Quote of the Week
Inquisitive Gentleman: “Where are you?”
Corey Rubin: “Bellport, Long Island. But if anyone asks, say Dubai.”

Was gonna embed “My President is Black” or the Honey Drippers or some shit for a President’s Day themed soundtrack, but the song below has calmed my nerves more than anything else the past couple weeks, so give her a whirl.

The QS Transition Facilities Tour — Part 1

pad-drew

It is no secret that we spend an inordinate amount of time in caged in, flat spaces. And it is no secret — as much as we may try to glamorize it — that it gets old after a while. With open road season in the northeast coming to a close, we hit I-95 one last time this fall. Except rather than going to surefire crutches like Eggs or Pulaski, we aimed for something a little different, and a little less…flat. We loaded up the three or five people in the crew adequately versed in skating transition for an atypical QS journey. We went to concrete skateparks, and ended up leaving something permanent behind us in the end (more on that later.)

The concrete skatepark is a relatively new phenomenon in New York. Sure, Owl’s Head has been there for a decade-and-a-half, but the recent surge in parks popping up everywhere is only ~five years old. It also came after we spent much of the 2000s languishing in pre-fab purgatory. Even then, if you heard some of the stories from people tasked with negotiating the skaters’ side in building a park, you’d want to strangle yourself with the red tape. We have one of the three largest city economies in the world; the level of bureaucracy that comes with each one we’re fortunate enough to have is unparalleled. Hopefully, the stadium-lit volleyball courts out on Tribeca piers have an easier time getting built…

Filmed by Johnny Wilson & Max Palmer. Alternate YouTube link.

New England embraced outdoor and public concrete parks long before we did. That’s mostly due to two people: Sloppy Sam, who founded Breaking Ground Skateparks, and Jeff Paprocki, who now owns Paprocki Concrete & Masonry. Both of them navigated the laws and public works departments that vary between every New England town to create much of the vast network of parks that exists up there today. Once you stop by Frank Pepe’s in New Haven and make it into the eastern half of Connecticut, it’s possible to spend the day hitting three or four unique parks, all thanks to these dudes. They aren’t “D.I.Y.” creations in the grey understanding that we have of that phrase, but it’s obvious they wouldn’t exist without the saintly proactive efforts of a few individuals. “It’s all about knowing the right person to talk to.” And also having the right crew around you.

‘Sure’ — The New Video From Johnny Wilson

sure

*****Help Kev get a new knee*****

“When did Johnny’s videos peak?”

That has been a popular topic in 2015. Pundits believe the videos were at their purest when Space Heater dropped — but then you remember that Beef Patty contained the last full-length Paul Tucci part, or that Paych had that fire Gwen Stefani song.

As we wait to see if the monster of New York City nightlife has Wenning-esque consequences on the Most Productive Crew™ (that may be an antiquated name) and their filmer, Sure is the latest one. It got rave reviews on premiere night.

Features parts from Andrew Wilson, Harry Jumonji, reigning Q.S.S.O.T.Y. Max Palmer making a strong case for potentially pulling the first ever two-peat win of the award, Paul Tucci with his highest volume of footage since the aforementioned video, Corey Rubin skating a bowl wearing a chain, John Choi from Dime and Cyrus from Polar. Guest appearances from all the familiar faces, along with a middle montage filmed at some weird sunny part of Brooklyn (?) that I have never been to.

Yo did TWS really just hint that The Storm 2 is in the works?

In 2012, it was “I’d rather watch Gino push.” In 2013, it was “I’d rather watch Busenitz skate a curb.” In 2014, it was “I’d rather watch Jahmal do a 5050.” In 2015, it’s “I’d rather watch a bunch of kids in Ethiopia skate than Chris Cole do some NBDs at the DC park.”

Pretty much every skateboarder outside of the Bay Area who knows about Andre Nickatina discovered Andre Nickatina through skate videos. SMLTalk gave a rundown of notable Nickatina #musicsupervision throughout skate video history.

Pretty rare that you see a New York clip in 2015 almost entirely filmed in Manhattan. Nice to see a lot of seldom-skated U.W.S. and Morningside spots.

Paych (or whatever) is now online in full.

Corey Rubin is my one friend who can skate bowls.

Anyone who started skating at least ~10 (or maybe less, who knows) years ago grew up with at least a couple Mike Blabac photos on their wall. This Chromeball interview with him is great, and gives the behind-the-scenes details on what we now consider some of the most iconic images of skateboarding. Also worth reading for any young skate photographers looking to be humbled by how good they have it in the digital era. That A.V.E. nollie crook revert sequence story is wild.

Jenkem has a bunch of behind the scenes photos from the Palace / Bronze video.

Yeah.

Huf doesn’t really flip his board anymore, just like Kevin Tierney ;)

The video that brought the concept of “oft-delayed S.V.A. skate video” to absurdly new heights released a twenty-minute B-roll clip, twenty-something years after the announcement of said video’s production: Outdated B-sides, 2007-2012.

Skaters are idiots.

Some quick vids“Subway Series” via the Mood NYC crew, and a Village Psychic bro cam clip edited to a relatable song about women repeatedly not understanding that you have a chauffeur. Live life.

QS Sports Desk: Anyone pretending like they know what’s going to happen in this series is lying. If it’s a one-point Game 7 decision, it won’t be surprising in the slightest. Also on the slim chance you missed it…J.R. Smith’s Game 4 entry.
