Ok, maybe this whole skating on cars shit is getting out of hand…

“Dare I say that the Dime Crew is possibly even better than Rick Howard?” Chris Nieratko spent Canadian Thanksgiving with the Dime squad. (Full Disclosure: They don’t celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving in French Canada.) Skateboard Story also interviewed Phil Lavoie about the inner-workings of Canada’s greatest fashion house.

Krooked in NYC video was a fun watch. You probably caught it already, but Brad Cromer v.s. trash cans is one of my favorite sub-generes of skateboarding.

Here’s a *new* interview with Ricky Oyola + and two video interviews from underrated faves: Chico Brenes for Route One and Brad Johnson for Bobshirt.

Purple keep coming in… 1) Volume 13 of LurkNYC’s “New York Times” outtakes series. 2) Materiél promo #008. 3) Cell Jawn #16.

Greg Hunt made an #uplifting mini doc about building a skatepark on one of the largest Native American reservations in the U.S, where youth suicides are rampant. Jenkem has some behind-the-scenes photos from the opening.

Even though it’s for more nostalgia-based reasons rather than actually wanting to skate there-based ones, there’s something chill about the fact that organized skate jams still go down at Riverside Park.

Weiger had my favorite part in either SB Chronicles video. The raw files are great.

Did you know there was an Alien Workshop video about to drop? Boil the Ocean did.

An interview with the guy who dreamt up the glow in the dark skatepark.

It’s insane that a trick that gets filmed and posted online on Saturday will wind up in an Instagram compilation video by Sunday. The internet, man.

Ok, no more #content about varial flips after this ;)

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Sooooo, Pelicans-Warriors tomorrow night? :)

Nieratko goes back to Love Park and City Hall (now reconstructed) with Stevie Williams for the latest “Skaters in Cars Looking at Spots” installment.

Damn, someone tell this dude to learn how to skate.

Skateboard Story has a cool interview with James from Labor about the insane prospect of starting a skate shop in New York.

No Ray Barbee, but the 12-minute version of Propeller is pretty good.

TWS has a quick proof sheet photo feature with the bro Mike Heikkila.

Lurk NYC went HD.

Philadelphia’s Sabotage crew didn’t go HD.

Did you ever think there was ANY chance they wouldn’t knob the shit out of what was temporarily the best new spot in midtown? The mini hubba ledges over the stairs are all still good to go as of this weekend, but expect those to get capped next. There’s also more outdoor security than when it first opened, so…

A recap of this past weekend’s Bobshirt show in six seconds.

Here’s the lookbook for the upcoming Bronze and Huf collaboration.

Damn, when’s the last time you bumped some Muska Beatz?

“Mike Vallely alternately over the past 30 years has functioned as the hot-shoe am; deck-shape innovator; Steve Rocco cohort and nemesis in turns; launcher of at least six different board companies; slam poet; pro wrestler; pro hockey player; three-time rider for George Powell; vegan advocate; maniacal tourer; ‘Beef’-style DVD star and vicarious defender of skate honour; Black Flag manager; Black Flag singer; titular performer in Mike V and the Rats; founding father of Revolution Mother; supporting actor to Paul Blart; podcaster; and more recently, streetstyle helmet-endorser.” …damn, and y’all thought Alex Olson wore many hats ;)

Yo shout out to Jersey City.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: 6′ 10 writer pretends he got drafted by the Utah Jazz last Thursday night, takes selfies, makes it onto the floor of the ceremony, and then hooks up with some chicks. He get into 1OAK though?

Quote of the Week: “I hate how phone cases feel. It’s like wearing a condom. Why would you do that?” — [Name Withheld]

Gucci Mane actually still top five dead or alive (ok, maybe top eight.)

Back in the Office…

bandwagon

On the bandwagon since 2013 :)

Had a rough past week for site updates. Just spent a lot of time trying to figure life out, yaknow? (No, not returning to the dark days of 2006-2009 where it was updated three times a month — the modern news cycle couldn’t handle that, r u crazy?)

New teamrider on Mother Collective.

Nieratko interviewed Peter Sidlauskas over on Vice.

What a week for wheel company videos! If the future of skate videos isn’t in a Shorty’s Guilty VHS tape or fifteen-second IG edits, maybe sub-two minute wheel company videos could be a guiding light? Jordan Trahan for Autobahn with the non-IG angle of 2014’s 360 Flip of the Year / leading practitioner of boardslide-tech, Jesus Fernandez, with a quick part for Bones Wheels (sidebar: I was recently informed of a weird sect that swears by Bones over Spitfires…is this real?) / Michael “Top 3 Person to See Skate in Real Life” Mackrodt with a part for a potentially unsubtle drug front.

Lurker Lou came through with a wear test for the Osiris D3. Apparently, it’s not much different than skating a foamposite.

Tyler, the Tufty has the opener in the D.C-based “Alley Bar 9.”

New iPhone edit via Rob Gonyon with a bunch of the Bronze guys, and one of the highlights off Barter 6.

A half-minute of J-John the Don footage from the Krooked Korea trip.

This video got e-mailed to us more that pretty much any other video ever throughout the past week. It’s good for a few laughs.

There are a lot of new things to skate in Milan, beyond just the train station.

Brief Ray Barbee sighting, who also probably earned the loudest cheer of the night at the Propeller premiere, just off an intro appearance.

Oh wow, another Colombia skate clip with a missed #musicsupervision opportunity.

They made one of those “oral histories” about Redman’s Cribs episode. “The reason I was on the floor was because the couch — you know how it is when you’re sleeping on a leather couch and it gets all hot? When it’s too hot to sleep on the couch, I just go right to the floor. It’s a cooler situation.”

If you borrowed money to go to school, and need a reason to cry and/or begin planning on how to fake your own death, have fun reading this.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Steph beat James Harden MVP voting. Fingers crossed for a Clippers-Warriors Western Conference Finals.

Nah.

Still some items left in the webstore btw ;)

The Quartersnacks web store is now open. If you are in Japan, Argument Skateshop sells the stuff online, which could save you quite a bit on shipping. Also available from Black Sheep, Commissary, Exit, Homebase, Labor, NJ, Orchard, Seasons, Supreme N.Y. + L.A. & Uprise. Support your local skate site :)

TWS put Zered’s Outliers part online, in addition to an accompanying interview.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Peter Smolik * But Were Afraid to Ask.” Can’t say a proper skate part from this year has been able to incite as much joy as this interview with Smolik and Brandon Turner. They talk about everything: Shorty’s, strippers, the G-Bag, the Sag-No-Drag system, the peak era of “rock star skateboarders.” Picking the overall best quote is next to impossible, but “Give me a snow camo Navigator or I ain’t gonna fuck with you” might be the frontrunner.

Eli Reed v.s. the latest incarnation of Houston Street construction. Wouldn’t be mad at a whole part of this. Really: what are New York skaters going to do for spots when there’s no more construction on Houston Street? Or is that always a stupid question because we all know Houston will always be under construction?

Village Psychic did some research on a skate deck’s relative immunity to inflation.

Yaje has been living in California for a bit now, and yes he still has all his powers.

Nieratko interviewed J. Strickland, principal mastermind behind Baker Bootleg and other things that shaped the direction of skateboarding throughout the 2000s.

Bronze in San Francisco, the photo edition, and Bronze in San Francisco, the video edition. Speaking of Bronze — they’re influential.

In light of the recent shade thrown towards the Birdman (not Brian Williams) by way of an Australian vert skater documentary, SMLTalk went and compiled the non-board flipping skate icon’s greatest achievements.

Here’s a quick Q & A with Q.S.S.O.T.D., Lucas Puig. Also found this recent-ish Ray Barbee interview on that site, though can’t get an exact post date. He’s a “cherry” fan.

There are some hot moves in this new, random Red Bull New York montage.

Mostly Skateboarding continues its podcast series. The new one’s with Donny Barley.

No idea what the new Boil the Ocean post is talking about. Give it a try?

More desaturated Dutch skateboarding in the latest POP clip. P.S. QS gear should be making its way to shops in The Netherlands this week ;)

Fetty Wap comes through with his third good song!

Cyrus is on Polar, Ben K is on 3D, and Steve Nash retired.

Found this podcast piece about “defensive architecture” with Ocean Howell really interesting (he’s an architecture professor now.) His points about developers positioning skateparks in rundown areas so they give way to gentrification seem to make sense. (Check where on the map the new Jersey City skatepark will be.)

An interview with Chad Bowers, former Alien Workshop team manager and principal figurehead behind Mother Collective about working for and starting a skateboarding company in…Ohio. “They forgot about the fourth coast.”

Nieratko interviewed Bill Strobeck on the occasion of cherry’s one-year anniversary.

#MPC: 1) HD video blog #9 from Johnny Wilson. 2) Max Palmer, Andrew Wilson, John Choi from Dime, et al. with one of the better clips from the now defunct Coda warehouse. 3) Some Paych second angles via Paul Young.

New Hi-8 clip (oxymoron?) with all the Bronze dudes.

Slam has a quick photo feature with the bro Rob Mathieson from his time in New York.

Hey, these guys like Virtual Reality Bump as much as we do!

There are some hot moves in this Evan Dittig part for Underground Skate Shop.

SMLTalk looks back the the first-ever skate re-edit contest. What up Jeremy.

Dunno what the deal with this blurry and dark Leo Gutman re-edit is (art?), but it was a good reminder to revisit The Brodies part that earned him Q.S.S.O.T.Y honors in 2013.

Even though he is quite obviously the entire QS office’s favorite skateboarder, it should be noted that Lucas’ slappy back smith IG vid was not the first known documentation of said maneuver on social media. This guy did it for the Vine back in January.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Nice to see J.R. Smith excelling in a city with minimal nightlife. Imagine him on the Thunder? He might become MVP.
