How did the Ryan Hickey photo from Monday’s post manage to evade even the most resourceful scanner-based skateboard websites? Because it never appeared anywhere significant (Police Informer or Chrome Ball would’ve caught it by now) prior to Ryan Gee’s recent barrage of unseen 35mm scans from the nineties. Everything he’s been posting is east coast-centric, with a lot of Gino, Oyola and other favorites.

Say what you will about instant gratification eroding the staying power of media consumed online, but it’s likely that some of these photographer’s B-sides would’ve never seen the light of day without Instagram. (Flickr never really popped off with skateboarders.) Gee has been posting two or three each day and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. It is pretty much the only non-@badgalriri account that is an absolute must-follow. Turns out Instagram is great for things besides lonely girls with unique lighting techniques (♥♥♥), and making you feel like you’re missing out on stuff that probably sucks (omg #fomo follow me plz thx.) Now, if only Reda and Dimitry Elyashkevich started posting some of their archives…

R.I.P. to the best T.F. box in years. It barely even lasted a week. The pre softball permit culture of the T.F. was its golden age. Imagine if the next generation of Americans has more skateboarders than baseball players, and they kick out the softball players with skateboard permits? That’ll be funny.

The editor behind Dog, the greatest remix compilation skate video ever, put together an hour-long compilation of Girl/Chocolate/Four Star tour footage, entitled Super International Tour Zone. Thanks again, you should own a share of the company.

Boil the Ocean rounded up all recent Pappalardo sightings, which mostly stem from his friends’ Instagram accounts. There seems to be a recurring theme of tricks on motor vehicles and 5050s.

Transworld offers a rap remix of Walker Ryan’s New York-heavy Perpetual Motion part, which is bound to put a smile on any backpacker’s face. Speaking of Pappalardo, Ryan’s trick on the manny pad-to-bank at Grant’s Tomb is nuts.

Matt Militano’s part in the \m/ video is great. The line at J Kwon is quite impressive and the hurricane grind shove-it out at Lenox Ledges is pretty chill too. (Lurker Lou is such a dick, man.) Did Adidas generate a year’s worth of content from its summer 2012 New York trip? NY Skateboarding compiled scans of New York-related content in this month’s crop of skate mags, and yes, there are more Adidas New York photos.

Spot Updates: The parks department knocked chunks out of every ledge on the pier next to the Tribeca park, as an effort to ruin them before we got the chance to or something.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Game 7! The only horse we have left in this race is a Heat loss, though the NBA is probably sweating bullets over viewer projections for a Pacers-Spurs finals. Don’t be surprised if there are a few questionable, Miami-favoring calls tonight in the event of a close game…As for an actual “play,” the moment when Tim Duncan discovered he had arms was cool.

Godspeed, Jason Kidd. He retired from pro basketball today.

Long Island’s most beloved child star, Billy Lynch, has been blessed with a tribute remix to the sounds of Shyne’s first album. All of the footage is 2006-ish.

Happy fall fashion week. We hope that you are fashion-forward during these next several days, and wish you the best of luck in sparking a brief romance with a lonely stylist’s assistant before the week is out.

In honor of this most festive of weeks, we have compiled a somewhat comprehensive guide to the best gear from the past twenty years’ worth of skate videos. Skateboarding didn’t just begin “embracing fashion,” as some misinformed outfits have recently reported. Fashion has been stealing shit from skaters for years. (Luckily, they left Javier Nunez’s City Stars jeans alone.) Here’s the proof: All the jerseys, sweats, camo, braids, insane patches, sweater vests and swooshy pants that you could ever hope for. 25. The Blue Flatbar Shatters the Record for the Longest a Loose Obstacle Has Been Left at Tompkins

Every skateboarder in New York is guilty of having once been too lazy to return a box or rail back to Autumn after it gets dark. Neglecting to bring the box back is so common that we deliberately left it off our Tompkins etiquette guide. If the Parks Department held on to all the obstacles they have removed from the park over the last ten years, then they easily have the capability of furnishing every basketball court and concrete baseball diamond in New York with at least one box and flatbar. The historical average for the longest an obstacle has been able to remain loose in Tompkins Square without confiscation is roughly 10.2 hours. This past November, amidst the 12th & A lockout, the blue flatbar was brought to the T.F. and lasted an unprecedented three weeks before being taken by the Parks Department and thrown in a trash compactor. It is quite possible that this record will never be broken.
