German Nieves’ “Big Germ” Part

We’ve all been fans of German’s skateboarding since Logic 6, which, for anyone keeping score, came out pretty much a quarter century ago. In the time since, German has remained consistent in his approach: classic east coast aesthetics, sturdy switch crooked grinds, and an unbridled love for skateboarding that’s shines through the screen — the dude has a smile on his face even when trying to avoid the lock while tre flipping into a cellar door.

“Big Germ” is by no means the *sequel* to the aforementioned early-2000s video magazine part; Justin White already took care of that. Instead, it’s an ode to aging gracefully and never falling out of love with skateboarding, even as you get closer to 50 than 40.

Limo on 9/17 — Limosine’s ’50 Flower’ Video

It has been an astonishing five years (!) since September 17th carried the promise of new Max Palmer and Cyrus footage. For those who still yearn for those simpler times, Limo’s 9/17 release fills the void.

Have often wondered as to why those curb cut gaps on the outer edges of Union Square have never made it into the city’s rotation of Spots That Really Good Skaters Skate™ — especially with 10+ years of people propping those planter grates up to the pillars — and this video addresses that concern (see above.)

Recording the Ride — A Visit to Opening Night of the Museum of the Moving Image’s 90s Skate Video Exhibit

Circles, bro. Life fuckin’ moves in circles.

June 1993: I purchase the VHS cassette of the Plan B skate video, Virtual Reality from Classic Boards (R.I.P.), ride my bike over to my friend Seb’s house, and promptly view the film. It is hard to describe the sensation of seeing the triple-screen intro for the first time. The only comparison I can think of is the phenomenon drug users speak of when their first hit is so mind-blowing that they spend their whole life chasing that same high. Or so I have read.

September 2024: I sit in a movie theater inside a museum in New York City – still the Greatest City in the World™ – anticipating a one-night-only screening of Virtual along with a gang of nineties pros and skate industry veterans. Eyes lock on as the triple-screen explodes.

How did I get here?

Summer Starts in August

Jack Sabback @ CBS, 20 years ago • 📷 via Matt Swift. Memory Screen had a fire #tbt post of Jack the other day, too.

The rumors are true, yes. We’re bringing The Quartersnacks Cup back this year, but with Vans. It’ll be more public. More info coming soon ;)

Shaquille Waite put together a thorough initial #tfreport of the re-done ground with his crew. It’s so …green! The fakie frontside flip over the bump-to-bar was nuts.

“Skaters who think they smoke a lot of weed have nothing on hockey players.” Una Farrar is the latest subject of Skate Jawn‘s “$100 Chill” series — except it’s about $120 Canadian! (Somehow, it’s actually like $135CAD…)

#QSTOP10 — September 13, 2024

Do you think Foy deliberately coordinated his outfit here? ^

Studies say that you’re 25% more likely to land in a countdown if you’re hanging out with a dope animal after the make. See also: the ender in the “Read The Room” video, although that animal epilogue was saved until the ender, so we figured it was better to let that one breathe in exchange for the dumpster dodge.

Otherwise, a massive week for Berlin’s Kulturforum, and it feels like it has been a while since someone made it in for just a flat trick — not a flat trick in a line, but a literal flat trick ;)

Have a good one.
