SAPPHIRE is the new full-length Paris scene video by Ethan Moriceau, who you might remember as the lensman/editor behind “I Can Fly,” the great Hamza el Hagry part from early last year, or other outings.
Ethan says SAPPHIRE is his first “big video,” and in 2025, if you can wrangle two dozen of your friends into a cohesive-feeling, 23-minute project, that is certainly worth of the title of “big.” And SAPPHIRE is a showcase for the younger generation out of the French capital, who also hit Lisbon, New York, Milan and other required stopovers for any crew just beginning to feel comfort in their powers.
With Paris at the center, there’s an energy that comes through the screen that feels unique to any great early crew video — one where it all starts ~working~ to be greater than the sum of its parts. There’s also onscreen proof of the fact that the only answer to the outsider’s question of “where do you skate” is: everywhere. No getting stuck, no onscreen nucleus, not even a whole lot of “famous” spots — just literally everywhere.
Asking Ethan if there was anything he wanted to say about this video, he said “I hope my grandpa is proud of me up there. He was travelling the world with his camera and fisheye lens the same way I do now, thirty years ago.” (You can actually see some of his footy in the latter third of the video.) Cheers to all the grandpas watching our skate videos. We’ll all be there sooner than we think 🧓
