Amsterdam Rail

Spots: Uptown Manhattan — Harlem & Morningside

Spot: The fact that you have to go all the way up to 105th Street to skate an imperfect rail like this one is a true testament to the scarcity of handrails in the city (or, handrails that grant you more than five minutes before kick out.) This rail is fairly low, round, and with an excellent landing composed out of smooth asphalt. It stands at a happy medium between mellow and steep, and the steps themselves are somewhat smaller than an average nine, so the rail isn’t too long. The central imperfection would be the ground up top, which is a mildly choppy sidewalk. Other than that, it is impossible to skate during any warm season given the amount of little kids that are going to crowd you and get in your way. It’s more of a winter spot, or an early morning spot during a warm season.

Bust — ♦ / Rare: You should not get kicked out of here, but there might be an ensemble of little kids calling you a faggot and asking you if you have seen “that show Scarred.”

Location: 105th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Take the 1 to 104th Street, skate east for one block on 104th Street, make a left, and skate north for one block. Make a right on 105th Street.
