Spots: Downtown Manhattan — Financial District
Spot: The majority of this spot is skatestopped via metal bars spanning across the upper seating portions on all of benches. A handful have been removed, so there are several benches that can be skated, otherwise, none of the ends have bars over them, so you can settle for just skating the ends. There is also a slightly curved ledge at the end, just make sure that you have someone watching your board so it does not slip out, otherwise it is bound to get run over by a bus on South Street. All of the edges are beveled, and the benches are a bit higher than an average bench. There is also a curb-up, two stairs down sort of obstacle that acts as a manual pad. The spot is, for some reason, extremely popular with the twenty or so remaining rollerbladers left on planet earth, so don’t hop on the ledge right away, because you’re liable to die from slipping out if it happens to be overwaxed.
Bust — ♦♦♦ / Half-and-half: Surprisingly, the spot is not an immediate bust like many other plazas in the Financial District. Occasionally, security may come outside to tell you to leave, but odds are a bit in your favor. Just don’t come here before 6 P.M. on weekdays, because it will be covered with people.
Location: South Street and Wall Street. Take the 2 or 3 to Wall Street, and skate south all the way down to the water, where Wall Street ends. The spot is right before you cross the street to the Seaport area, on the north side of the street.
