Spots: Downtown Manhattan — Chinatown, East Village & L.E.S.
Spot: No, this isn’t a skateable pool, so don’t get excited. It’s just in a park containing a public city pool. The standout obstacle here is a four-and-a-half-to-five-foot ledge to ledge gap, proceeded by an oversized three stair thirty feet afterwards (roughly the same length.) The runway is ample, and the ground smooth enough for whatever you may be trying. There are some waxed curbs, and smaller sets throughout the park, but wandering in other sections of it may increase your chances of getting kicked out.
Bust — ♦♦♦ / Half-and-half: Your chances of getting to skate here are completely dependent on whether or not the Parks Department people on patrol decide to hate skateboards that day. There will be days when they could care less about you skating here, and other days when they will spot you walking in the gate and scream “NO SKATEBOARDS! DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!”
Location: Houston Street and Pitt Street in the Lower East Side. Take the F to Second Avenue and skate east on Houston street for seven or eight blocks until you hit Pitt Street.
