Way Too Real Re-Edit

Here’s one for for all those fretting about Since Day One only utilizing the most visible post-millenial Too Short song: a re-edit of a small chunk of the video via the DVD extras, set to nothing but Too Short (and Ant Banks) songs from the nineties. There was originally a much more insane concept proposed for this particular video by our creative directors, possibly involving the fabled Tiesto edit that everyone is waiting for…Instead, we called Ant Banks to see what’s up, and given that this site does not often utilize music from the west coast (exceptions here), despite not really having any sort of bias against it, it became a golden opportunity to make up for lost time. So here you go, the Bay’s most legendary skateboard company coupled with its most iconic poet: Vimeo, YouTube.

Be sure to give your Since Day One DVD a whirl if you haven’t revisited it recently (in hindsight, Ramondetta probably has the best part…not sure what the message board consensus on that one was upon release.) Also, give your Baby Steps DVD a watch if you’re lucky enough to own one. Its credits song is “Just Another Day” and it all-around has one of the best soundtracks ever. Holler at the homeboy Gary Payton after you’re done.

Last week was slow, but things should get rolling again these next few days. The Knicks are in the playoffs! All we need now is this Heat match-up and it’s gonna get wild.

Real’s Since Day One, which is probably the most anticipated video since Stay Gold, will be premiering in non-San Francisco regions throughout the coming week (New York & New Jersey premiere info here.) A handful of websites have already began putting together content based around the video. Skate Daily has a feature up that contains interviews with Jim Thiebaud, Dan Wolfe, and Davis Torgerson. The Chrome Ball Incident will also be spending the week with Real-centric content, with a Torgerson interview to kick the week off. Does anyone know if the video is going to be on sale April the 11th, or only premiering? Shops are allowed to sell the video as of April 11th as well.

Taji posted up a mini interview with Eli Reed over at the Converse blog.

The scaffolding is off the Terminator Rail on First Avenue, in case you were trying to get buck. Wear the Terminator shades if you do, those are what the rail is actually named after.

Again, this isn’t exactly a media outlet known for regurgitating nonsense from The Berrics, but Luis Tolentino is killing it out there. Probably the second best Berrics segment ever, after the Mike V one.

Crailtap posted up some outtakes from The Chocolate Tour (some of which appeared in random 411 issues throughout the years.) Carroll, Gino, etc. You should watch it if you already haven’t.

While Ziegfeld might not be the best spot for back tails anymore, it’s still a big location for paparazzi photos.

A (kinda old at this point) Todd Jordan interview discussing the earlier Zoo York days, skating with Harold Hunter, filming for Mixtape 1 & 2, and a variety of other topics.

The new issue of Skate Jawn is now online.

Quote of the Week:Y’all gotta put them cameras away and get out of here. I own a few of these [buildings]…I paid Trump for a few of these, and y’all can’t be doing that here.” — A gentleman kicking us out from a planter rail on a 138th Street sidewalk who pulled up playing “Dueces” on full volume with a baby in the backseat.

The most anticipated…

It has been a while since an entire post has been dedicated to a single upcoming event around here, but it only seems right, since this may very well turn out to be the best skateboarding video of 2011. Real is one of the few great skate companies left (in a video production sense, in other words, not three parts from the people you want to see and a bunch of “he’s good, but I don’t really care” to fill in the space), so the anticipation for this one has been heavy.

Since Day One will premiere at KCDC Skateshop on Monday, April 11 at 6PM. (90 N 11th Street between Wythe and Berry in Williamsburg, Brooklyn / L train to Bedford for the geographically challenged.) Hopefully, they have more than one screening because that back room and romantic balcony seating on top of the mini ramp isn’t exactly the best place to watch a video once there is an excess of maybe fifty people there. Plan to get there early otherwise. $2-5 donation at the door for entry. Proceeds go to the Johnny Kicks Cancer Foundation, which is dedicated to fighting childhood leukemia in the memory of Johnny Romano.

Update: If you happen to be out in Jersey, NJ Skateshop in Hoboken is also premiering the video on the same day (April 11th.) 7PM at NJ Skateshop (91 Hudson Street, a few blocks from the Path train) and a 9PM, 21+ premiere at 4L’s at 208 Washington Street. Jersey Premiere Flyer Here.
