‘Sure’ — The New Video From Johnny Wilson

“When did Johnny’s videos peak?”

That has been a popular topic in 2015. Pundits believe the videos were at their purest when Space Heater dropped — but then you remember that Beef Patty contained the last full-length Paul Tucci part, or that Paych had that fire Gwen Stefani song.

As we wait to see if the monster of New York City nightlife has Wenning-esque consequences on the Most Productive Crew™ (that may be an antiquated name) and their filmer, Sure is the latest one. It got rave reviews on premiere night.

Features parts from Andrew Wilson, Harry Jumonji, reigning Q.S.S.O.T.Y. Max Palmer making a strong case for potentially pulling the first ever two-peat win of the award, Paul Tucci with his highest volume of footage since the aforementioned video, Corey Rubin skating a bowl wearing a chain, John Choi from Dime and Cyrus from Polar. Guest appearances from all the familiar faces, along with a middle montage filmed at some weird sunny part of Brooklyn (?) that I have never been to.

Jim Hodgson, the guy behind In Absentia, released another short video of unseen Hi-8 footage with appearances from Puleo, German, etc. and practically a mini Andy Bautista part. R.I.P. Hoboken Ledges.

The new LurkNYC video, Strangers, is online in full. Ben Kadow’s ender is really cool. Also ICYMI, NY Skateboarding has an interview with Nick about his video series.

“You can’t kill me, I’m a zombie.” This new eight-minute video interview with Quim Cardona goes through his whole career as a pro skateboarder.

Ten honorable mentions for “Part of the Year” from Boil the Ocean. Rich gang.

Yo, shout out to all my artists out there: Ride has a feature on the origin of the Powell skull and sword logo, Slam City Skates interviews Glen E. Friedman, VHS Mag interviews Evan Hecox, the guy who designed your favorite series of Chocolate boards, and who has a really expensive book for sale on Amazon :(

Spencer Hamilton did a no comply trick that everyone will be doing this spring, and skated to “Wipe Me Down,” one of recent history’s finest Song of the Summer Winners.

Ever wonder about the dietary regiment behind New York’s Most Productive Crew™?

Dude, like, vert on street though, dude.

Another clip from the Long Island City Coda T.F. to some Creedence for all the working men out there. Here is ten seconds of Jake footage from there too, why not.

Much in the vein of how that Mike Carroll “S.O.T.Y.” web edit from a few weeks ago is chronically overlooked, Kalis’ mini-part in the DC Video bonus montage always flew under the radar (2:10 mark.) No idea why so much of this got left out of the actual video:

Stuff you’ve seen already: Zered is the best, Aaron Herrington’s “Off the Grid at Union Square, Andrew Wilson’s Paych part, a highlight reel from this year’s All City Showdown in New York, Brad Cromer’s Outliers part.

The bro Jersey Dave is having a photo show at the Hoboken NJ Skateshop location this Saturday, January 17. 7-9 P.M. Flyer here. Maybe Justin White will be there? First twenty people to purchase the book will receive a complimentary tote bag.

Define “successfully.”

Got this update about the Fat Kid spot the other day. Thanks to Macauley for the tip.

There’s a German guy with a blonde streak in his hair on the Atlanta Hawks — known in some circles as “Baby Rondo” — who used to skate, but like, actually used to skate.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the shop and bought some gear this weekend. Everything should be available in the webstore by mid-September. If you want to check out the IRL #TFREPORT wall, it’ll be up for a bit at New Fancy Foods on Leonard Street and Broadway (a few blocks from Black Hubba.) Shout out to Street Fam.

These dudes out in Philly rigged their own wear test video of the Quartersnacks dunk.

R.I.P. to the most popular spot in New York: July – August 2014.

SML Talk runs down the list of notable fakie heelflips done by someone besides Weiger. Add in every single person who has done one in a game of S-K-A-T-E, as it’s the most respectable annoying trick you could possibly do. (The most annoying not-respectable trick you could do is a nollie backside bigspin, obvs.)

More Static IV follow-ups: Slam City Skates has an interview with Aaron Herrington, and Street Canoe has an interview with Brendan Carroll, where he controversially proclaims his love for TF West flat over its eastern counterpart.

Having been informed that “bungee cords are not a ting,” Jordan Hoffart opted to push his way towards a boardslide halfway around southern California.

Ah, ah, ah, but the remix…

2012’s Nevermind video is online in full.

Some dudes making a NY/NJ/Boston video edited their teaser video to Keef, but more importantly, is that low metal loading dock ledge at ~1:16 actually in NJ? Where?

Gonna start saving for next summer’s France trip now.

Yes, this has been the least exciting lead-up week to a Jeezy album in QS history…

Beef Patty is Now Online

beef patty

For the second week in a row, we are going to postpone Monday Links until Tuesday in order to feature an excellent New York-based skateboard video.

Johnny Wilson’s new video, Beef Patty, is now live on Vimeo. It’s from the same crew behind Video and Space Heater, and somehow on a whole level better than those past videos, which were both quite good themselves. All three came out in the past year-and-a-half, so how these dudes manage to get so much footage while avoiding familiar Manhattan trappings is pretty absurd (always nice to see a New York video without a single trick at the Courthouse Drop.) Add it to the rotation along with Solo Jazz, and pass the link on to any of your dumb friends who have ever given that “The skateparks are ruining skateboarding” speech.

New parts from Cyrus Bennett, Paul Tucci, Andrew Wilson, Loose Trucks Max, no apparent Corey Rubin sighting :( and appearances from a whole bunch of others. If you need an explanation as to how Loose Trucks Max got his name, please consult the close-up of the boardslide at the beginning of his part (15:30.)

You should also probably follow Johnny’s Vimeo account because he has a throwaway reel live on there every week or two.
