Antonio Durao — Immigration Part

Pointing an iPhone to capture Antonio’s skateboard magic is a singular experience. Not in a “omg you did that first try and nobody was filming, do it again”-sort of way — there are other talented skaters who fall into that category. No, with Antonio, people have flat out refused to film certain things on an iPhone because there was no filmer present, even if he was on the precipice of doing it. “You need to get a real camera here; I’m not filming that just iPhone.”

And even for the stuff that the phone/camera/whatever is out in time for… the last two tricks for this part were filmed this past Friday: time stamp on the Zuccotti one was 6:38 P.M. The time stamp on the switch front heel was 6:46 P.M.

If it were someone else, you may think that’s some sort of social media personal brand building first strategy, but if he remembers to post something on Instagram, it’s only ~25% percent of the time. This mix is all the phone clips from Quick Strike onward that he more or less neglected to post after they went down. (There’s still action on his Instagram, don’t worry.)

Maybe we’re traditionalists, but if these four minutes were filmed on a “real” cam, it’d be a shoo-in for one of the year’s best parts. Good thing he’s got some stuff in the works on that front though, right?

Happy October yo.
