Took Some Thousand Dollar Pants & Cut ‘Em Into Shorts

The Top 10 desk would like to thank Sour Skateboards for the vacation it is taking for the rest of the week. Sour Solution III is now live.

Getting your pro board thrown into your skull and having to spend the rest of the premiere celebrating while bleeding from the head is a new one. Sk8 or die taken to its logical extreme. Maybe it was just out of solidarity with Giannis ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

QS B.F.F. Zered Bassett was on the Angel & Z podcast last week. There’s a bit of graffiti talk at the start, but it gets into skating about ten minutes in. A lot of wisdom and honesty from one of the first few to truly do it at that level on the east coast. Also, the Greece story is insane.

Fool’s Spring

Adrian Vega via Giovanni Reda. This photo really does justice to how gnar tricks on this bank are.

Zach Moore (director of last summer’s remix blockbuster, “Jake Johnson: The Movie“) is front-running for delivering 2021’s best laughs so far. A)The Ultimate Skate Songs Collection” envisions skate videos’ most iconic music in the format of a late-night TV commercial for a CD box set. The plot twist in this one is so brilliant. B)A Caption To Die For” pays tribute to Thrasher‘s often absurd video captions in the form of old-timey newspapermen by way of classic Hollywood film noir. Give Zach Moore his skate Oscar.

This likely got to you last week, but ICYMI, Cyrus was the latest guest on The Bunt.

3 Martini Lunch

Boil the Ocean contends that the snowblower is the new bolt cutter, but perhaps only for as long as the northeast doesn’t have a dedicated chapter of the Knob Buster.

And on that note, given that it’s cold, our streets are covered in ice + shit, and travel remains hobbled, let’s venture out to Europe for the first couple of links…

Usually the assumption on these posts is that you’ve already seen anything that Thrasher posted last week, but Jaakko Ojanen and Eetu Toropainen’s shared part is absolutely nuts. You’ll be hard pressed to find another recent part with this much mind-bending shit that still actually looks good. Nobody skates like Jaakko.

Stay in the Zone, Turn H20 to Cognac

Village Psychic put together all of Zered’s footage from the objectively bad skatepark next to the B.Q.E. They call it “Bad Park.” Zered calls it “Shit Park.” Queue up Z’s quote from when the park first opened: “Yeah, it’s terrible…but I’ll still skate it all the time.”

Ok, let’s get all the remaining 2020 Year-in-Review content out of the way now, lest we ever need to discuss it again. (More as a courtesy to all the people #creating #content, not for nostalgia’s sake.)

“Just cuz it’s obvious don’t make it wrong.” Boil the Ocean wrapped its annual countdown of the year’s ten best parts (+ a bonus track of ten more.)

Our friends at the Milan-based Skate Muzik podcast have a new NTS Radio episode that runs down some skate video #musicsupervision highlights from last year. That “Joy Road” song from Will Miles’ “Lambrusco” edit goes. Surprised the song Alicia Keys made about Max Palmer didn’t make it on there tbh.

What A Time

Last Monday Links of the year ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Top 10 will return on Friday, January 8th. FWIW, this week, all of it would be from Davonte Jolly’s Godspeed video for Illegal Civ (a drive-in theater skate video premiere was a fire idea btw) + the new Yardsale video.

To pine for warmer days, check out the Public Skateboarding video by Tom Albin. 31 minutes, all filmed in New York, and as wholesome of a friends video as you could possibly get. Friend edits to “Never Too Much” always hit.

Boil the Ocean has embarked on its annual journey of picks for the year’s ten best video parts.
