Frozen in Carbonite Presents: Song of the Summer x Video Part of the Summer 2023

Words by Frozen in Carbonite

This year, the owners of my local bar revived an institution from The Before Times™: music trivia.

I call it music trivia, but it mostly consists of “name that tune” — the DJ plays 12 snippets (usually in a category like Eighties, Nineties, Songs about Beer ‘n Trucks) and you have to name the artist and title. Eighties is my shit; country my achilles heel. ANYWAY, this was the first time playing without drinking. Whenever I go to a bar, if they don’t have legit NA beers, I get a Red Bull and some appetizers because I feel like a dummy hanging out for hours and not spending any money. You pay for the experience. The ambience.

ANYWAY, I won ten bucks. I was psyched, but even more psyched at the end of the night when I saw the name the bartender entered for my tab.

When you hear Lenox has the fire wifi…

Naquan Rollings dropped a quick edit of his crew’s first session down the Brooklyn Banks 9. There are some beautiful pieces of flip trick #form in there.

Not even a few hours after it finished, the YouTubers compiled all the stories and Insta posts of the footage from the Hardies x Supreme event at 12th and A this past Saturday. Features obviously Tyshawn, but also Karim Callender, Troy Gipson, and Who Kid in the dunk tank.

Aaron Herrington and Lurker Lou hit the Staten Island flatbar park and more in the latest installment of Village Psychic’s “Lurking With Lou” series.

Pretty much all of our collective experiences of Copenhagen are within the bipolar high that is the Scandinavian Summer. For a bit of a reality check of what it’s like on the opposite side of that seasonal coin, our friends at Dancer dropped an “Endless Winter” montage featuring Hjalte, David Stenström + others. Still seems pretty fun, tbh.

Some nice bits of New York footage in the Charlotte-based AVENUE video parts that have been dropping across a few outlets: Vague has Jermaine Whittaker’s part, which includes a 10/10 Three Up Three Down performance, and Skate Jawn has Ethan Kaplan’s part, which includes a NBD (?) ollie at the white building plaza across from Pyramid Ledges.

Orchard Skateshop Capo, Armin Bachman, has a new mini part out for Pepper Griptape. That bank to curb ender in Barcelona really came out of nowhere 💥

The Duplex crew has a new montage video series on Thrasher, entitled “Low Rent.”

Naquan Rollings released a new edit on YouTube. Mostly L.A. stuff, with a bit of New York. Features all the staple characters from Naquan edits, and an impeccable transition from Sada Baby to MF Doom, whose MM..Food album has been #trending a bit as of late…

Jason Byoun made a recap edit of the Hardbody trip to L.A. Lots of food pics. Hard to watch and not get hungry 🌯

Torn to shit by weather and use, bondo’d back to functionality, and still standing — the Trenton Banks have to be one of the longest-standing O.G. New Jersey spots at this point. Phat House dropped a “10 Years of Trenton Banks” covering a greatest hits of their crew’s footage at the spot, and including a young Ishod Wair doing something obviously insane.

Simple Magic released an updated version of its Skaters With Glasses Power Ranking, which can’t resist the easy puns like “he may need glasses, but [Diego] Todd’s vision is 20/20 when it comes to finding and figuring out interesting, unassuming, and downright dangerous skate spots.”
