Our new capsule with Nike SB releases on Thursday, October 13 in skate shops worldwide. It includes a special, #lowkey colorway of the Bruin Hyperfeel, a heavyweight longsleeve pocket tee, and a Lamborghini of a wool coach jacket that exudes grown and sexy confidence. Thanks Ripped Laces for the love

Skateboarding in 2016 is a strange place, and this early 2000s nostalgia is really hitting critical mass man. Whatever incarnation of Osiris still exists re-added Tyrone Olson and Peter Smolik to their team, a year after Smolik aired out the company for denying him a snow camo Navigator and pushing Slimer-colored footwear. “The Storm already passed homie, let’s get the hurricane on and the tornado.” I don’t know dude.

Jesse Alba put together an eight-minute montage that has some cool Max footage.

HD video blog #23 via Johnny Wilson and the L.E.S. Park.

Got a good laugh out of the 5050 on the table attempt at Wall Street Gap. The new edition of Lurk NYC’s “New York Times” outtake reel is now live.

The Bunt’s new one is with Eggs mayor, Brian Delaney.

Mitch Swongo and Associates” is the new one from the Western Mass boys, sure to get you feeling romantic about skating a high curb in a suburban bank parking lot. Includes Ben Bartle footage

They saved Black Blocks. Shout out Atlanta, fuck John Street and Mike Nutter.

On that note, this video is legitimately a bit heartbreaking to watch at points. Chris Mulhern put together a recent montage of Philly skating, which includes footage of people skating the rubble left behind during the Love Park demolition.

Memory Screened did an incredible remix vid of varial flip god, Tim O’Connor. (Leaving him off our 2013 varial flip study is one of the greatest oversights in QS history.)

“Danny Brady got NO swag. He’s also the team manager, so I’m probably gonna get kicked off for saying that.” Jenkem interviewed the perpetually viral Jamal Smith.

Here’s a chill “Summer Trip to New York” vid from Brixton’s BMT squad.

Kingpin has some photos of that Spanish plaza from last week, in addition to a full #listicle of the best skatepark in Europe that’s good for killing five minutes.

Yesterday, we were talking about how much American currency it would take for us to attempt a caveman boardslide on the rail that goes down from the middle stage at House of Vans. This guy crooked grinded it.

Is it weird this is my fav Gucci verse since he got out? It’s ~playful~ n ~silly~. Also, this came on shuffle the other day and its still sick. “No sneakers, I’m wearing creatures.”

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Basketball is back! Who throws a shoe?

Quote of the Week:

kebabs-on-hooker-lane

This part is way less ledge dance-y than I remember it. It’s more bump-to-cans and bump-to-fences than anything, and surprisingly #current in that regard. The song is still the worst rap song in a skate video ever unless someone skated to Wale.

Hmmm…whose “board” is that?

Tell your friends you love them.

The State V.S. Radric Davis & Lucas Puig. Literally the greatest.

“What do you want to hear about: money, guns or drugs?” Chromeball has been killing it with the nineties New Yorker interviews lately. The one with Vinny Ponte from today is incredible and is really going to make you want to party, and the Steven Cales one from last week is as comprehensive of a story on him as you’re gonna get. Hear there’s another one in line with a personal hero of the QS office…

Did you know that Dustin Hoffman’s “I’m walking here!” bit from Midnight Cowboy was completely improvised? “Mean Streets” is a new LurkNYC montage series for the Transworld website. Great looking 360 flip in there.

Surprisingly enjoyed the hell out of this. A 25-minute interview with Josh Kasper. Yes, he does talk about ollieing the DJ. Osiris really was the best man. It was the definitive creative force between skateboarding’s closest counterpart to rap’s shiny suit era. My lifegoals are to produce a documentary on Osiris and own a Paine Webber bench.

Sometimes it’s just great to watch a feel-good “Summer Trip to NY” clip, yaknow?

Bill Strobeck uploaded four minutes worth of extras from the Supreme Paris video.

A new video blog from Johnny Wilson and friends + a new iPhone clip from Johnny Wilson and friends + a new Cafe Creme interview with Johnny Wilson where he talks about his friends. Shout out to Conor’s back noseblunt. Logan have you filmed anything for your part yet?

Boil the Ocean kicked off its annual “Summer Mixtape” series with one of my five favorite parts of all-time. Best #musicsupervision ever pretty much :)

Could this news be more shocking than Kevin Durant’s switch to the Golden State Warriors? Peter Smolik has parted ways with the Sk8Mafia in exchange for a spot on the rebooted Menace team. Yeah, they rebooted Menace.

The rideaway at the Wall Street gap is fucked now.

QS Sports Desk: What a weekend! Although it was a day before the world got turned upside down with the KD news + Tim Duncan retirement, this has been my favorite bit of free agency coverage. And remember, The Mavs won the title the first year of the Miami Big 3 ;) Enough with all this “this makes the league boring!” shit. Also, this GQ eulogy for the KD+Russ era is quite great.

bar

Our good friend Roctakon recently dropped this mix of current day hits + dancehall classics + other stuff with Formerly Erock. Just in time for summer and BBQ season :) Pretty sure it’s his first time doing a mix since the QS-fave, NPBS mix.

Thanks to everyone who came out to China Chalet on Saturday. The smoke took a good seven days off all of our lives. DANY DVDs later this summer.

halloween

This one is pretty good too.

The QS webstore is now live with fall merch. There likely won’t be any restocks on any of this stuff, so grab it while you can. Thanks as always for the support. Also available from these fine shops, although it might not be available at some of the European retailers until later this week or next ♥♥♥

Cops are awesome. Not skating there for a while…

Maybe L.E.S. clip of the year. (Double-set contest clips don’t count.)

Ollie onto the top, TOP circle at Seward Park is insane.

I’d rather watch Gino push than get old.”

Even though the rumors have been going for years, the Love Park redesign looks like it’s becoming an increasing reality. It’s nice that they’re turning it into a grassy crack smoking campsite with a big toilet in the middle.

Remember Chad Knight? For whatever reason, decided to give his Shetler Show episode a chance. There are some interesting bits, namely having to do with the late nineties skate boom. People can call companies like Osiris “corny” in hindsight, but we’re still talking about them more than some of the “cool” stuff from when we were growing up. All the corny shit means a lot in life. Think about who’s song you’re more likely to hear at a party in 2015: 50 or Ja? Yo I miss Yung Berg.

The Meteoric Rise of the Palace Wayward Boys Choir.

Leo Gutman (2013 Q.S.S.O.T.Y. winner) sightings in this mostly New York iPhone clip.

Always hyped to see footage of Philly Santosuosso and New Orleans in general.

Just in time for winter: Ripped Laces on the resurgence of skating in Timberlands.

Dude, we, like, fully gave up on the Knicks after they traded picks for Bargnani and realized nothing will ever change. Being a bandwagon Warriors fan these past three years has turned out great. (Thanks for the plug.)

There’s no shortage of high praise on the Stretch and Bobbito documentary going around, but as an addendum to that, you should listen to the two-hour Juan Ep podcast with the two of them. They make a point of not spoiling anything in the film itself. Bobbito not knowing this was a Dogg Pound beat or the context of the song is the most hilariously east coast shit ever. That song was in a clip, btw ;)

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: The entire highlights video of Magic-Thunder from Friday. I witnessed a $50 bet go down this past week on Russell Westbrook being league MVP. He’ll probably finish top three, but it doesn’t matter because he’s actually the greatest basketball player in the history of skateboarding.

Yo did TWS really just hint that The Storm 2 is in the works?

In 2012, it was “I’d rather watch Gino push.” In 2013, it was “I’d rather watch Busenitz skate a curb.” In 2014, it was “I’d rather watch Jahmal do a 5050.” In 2015, it’s “I’d rather watch a bunch of kids in Ethiopia skate than Chris Cole do some NBDs at the DC park.”

Pretty much every skateboarder outside of the Bay Area who knows about Andre Nickatina discovered Andre Nickatina through skate videos. SMLTalk gave a rundown of notable Nickatina #musicsupervision throughout skate video history.

Pretty rare that you see a New York clip in 2015 almost entirely filmed in Manhattan. Nice to see a lot of seldom-skated U.W.S. and Morningside spots.

Paych (or whatever) is now online in full.

Corey Rubin is my one friend who can skate bowls.

Anyone who started skating at least ~10 (or maybe less, who knows) years ago grew up with at least a couple Mike Blabac photos on their wall. This Chromeball interview with him is great, and gives the behind-the-scenes details on what we now consider some of the most iconic images of skateboarding. Also worth reading for any young skate photographers looking to be humbled by how good they have it in the digital era. That A.V.E. nollie crook revert sequence story is wild.

Jenkem has a bunch of behind the scenes photos from the Palace / Bronze video.

Yeah.

Huf doesn’t really flip his board anymore, just like Kevin Tierney ;)

The video that brought the concept of “oft-delayed S.V.A. skate video” to absurdly new heights released a twenty-minute B-roll clip, twenty-something years after the announcement of said video’s production: Outdated B-sides, 2007-2012.

Skaters are idiots.

Some quick vids“Subway Series” via the Mood NYC crew, and a Village Psychic bro cam clip edited to a relatable song about women repeatedly not understanding that you have a chauffeur. Live life.

QS Sports Desk: Anyone pretending like they know what’s going to happen in this series is lying. If it’s a one-point Game 7 decision, it won’t be surprising in the slightest. Also on the slim chance you missed it…J.R. Smith’s Game 4 entry.

An Inconvenient Truth

December 10th, 2014 | 7:00 am | Daily News | 11 Comments

the storm

It is time that we, as free-thinking adults, own up to an inconvenient truth: The Storm is history’s greatest work of nonfiction. It might not be a sexy or popular opinion, but our most exalted skateboard heroes continue to steal from this much-maligned VHS tape for inspiration while no one is looking.

Dave Mayhew pre-dated the impossible’s modern redevelopment by a decade.

Chris Dobstaff pre-dated Fully Flared standardizing confusing tech tricks by eight.

Josh Kasper pre-dated Alex Olson inevitably doing an ollie over a DJ for a V Man fall fashion week spread by fifteen!

Anyone with half-a-brain knows there are some suppressed team meeting notes that considered the idea of a Plan B paintball trip to film male bonding filler clips for True.

And now, the Gonz — the Gonz! — is paying homage to the one and only Tyrone Olson in a new Four-Star clip without giving proper credit to the man himself.

tyrone-ramp-to-5050

Enough is enough. Why is it cool for the Gonz to do it, while the bro Tyrone continues to be ostracized from the conversation? Why should Mark bask in all the Tumblr reblog glory, while we sit there pretending like he didn’t watch The Storm late at night when everyone was asleep, and got inspired to bring a jump ramp to the rail?

And don’t say “Cuz he’s the Gonz.” Nah man, the Gonz is a Storm fan on the low, just like me and you ;)

Osiris shoes are boss, everybody.
