The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Spots: Uptown Manhattan — Upper East Side

Spot: While the Met and the surrounding areas are classic New York City spots for the mythological recollections of skateboarding in the late-eighties and early-nineties, it is not the most oft-sessioned spot in the present day. However, the building does happen to hold one of the best sets of stairs throughout Manhattan. And its in front of a pretty building, so it is all the more photogenic.

The building has a lead-up comprised of an eight-flat-eight-flat-eight, so assuming you are not Diego Bucchieri, you will only be skating the bottom eight The set has infinite marble runway, and a great landing, with no cracks or anything to mess you up. The eight is a solid size, and maybe a bit bigger than you would come to expect an eight stair to be.

Bust — ♦♦♦ / Half-and-half: Your chances here are completely hit or miss, but it is still best to come after 7 P.M. or a weekend, seeing as how the stairs are covered with people visiting the museum during open hours. Security does not face the steps in any capacity, but obviously, they can still catch sight of you given a cursory patrol around the front of the museum.

Location: East 83rd Street and Fifth Avenue. Take the 4, 5 or 6 to 86th Street. Skate west until you hit Central Park / Fifth Avenue / Museum Mile. Make a left, and skate south for three blocks on Fifth Avenue.
