Spots: New Jersey — Newark

Spot: The Ferry Street Banks essentially exemplify the connotations surrounding “Toxic Avenger New Jersey Spots.” Dead in the most industrial part of Newark, just by the all-too-beautiful New Jersey Turnpike and Routes 1 & 9, you will find these steep concrete banks. You need to ollie up to most of them to get onto the slanted portion, but many of them are steep enough to require a sign or piece of wood at the bottom so you still have speed once you’re on the slope. At the top of the bank is a wall that is ideal for all your wallride/wallie desires. It is not a spot for the weak-hearted, believe me.
Bust Factor — ♦♦ / Occasional: You should not get kicked out of here, but there may be cars parked everywhere on weekdays, so it is either a weekend spot, or an evening spot.
Location: Ferry Street and Oxford Street in the Newark Ironbound. (Warning: This spot is roughly a twenty-block skate from the train station.) Take the A, C, E, 2, or 3 to World Trade Center. Transfer onto a Newark bound PATH train (occasionally, the Newark line will not be running; in that event, you will want to take a Journal Square bound train and transfer to a Newark train at Journal Square.) Take the train to the last stop (25-minute ride from the city.) Exit on the east side of Newark Penn Station facing Raymond Plaza East / NJ Railroad Avenue. Skate east on Market Street for about fifteen blocks. Market Street eventually merges with Ferry Street, and the spot is about two or three blocks after the mere, on the left / north side of the block.
