Cottage Street Rails

Spots: New Jersey — Jersey City

Spot: There are not too many handrail spots in Jersey City, so this place is what you have to resort to if you happen to be looking for a mellow rail with a decent set-up.

Here, there are two, rather low, square rails down five steps. They have ample runway, and are devoid of cracks, rough ground, etc. The only problem you may find is that after you land, there’s only about fifteen feet of space to roll before you run into Kennedy Boulevard, so you’ll probably need someone to watch your board so that it doesn’t go into a four lane street.

There is also a chest-high, backside for regular / frontside for goofy hubba ledge down six stairs across Kennedy Boulevard with a corresponding six stair rail.

Bust — ♦♦ / Occasional: Come here after 5 P.M. or any time on the weekend, and you are probably not going to get kicked out.

Location: Cottage Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard in the Journal Square area of Jersey City. If you’re coming from Uptown or Queens, take the B, D, F, V, N, Q, R or W to 34th Street — Herald Square and transfer to a Journal Square bound PATH train, and take it to Journal Square, the last stop (fifteen minute ride from the city.) If you’re coming from Downtown or Brooklyn, take the A, C, E, 2, or 3 to World Trade Center and take a Newark bound PATH train to the Journal Square stop. When you exit the station, make a right and skate three blocks north to cottage street. The spot is on the west side of the street.
