Spots: Midtown Manhattan — Gramercy, Kips Bay & Murray Hill

Spot: Granted that the city has a massive shortage of handrails that you don’t get kicked out of, this rather imperfect spot has become one of the more frequented handrail spots in Manhattan. The nine stair rail has a long sidewalk runway and landing, with several cracks here and there, but not anywhere that really matters, i.e. where you pop. The rail itself is higher than an average handrail, and that tends to be the biggest detractor from the spot. There is another rail in front of the building that is insanely low and short. The problem with it is that there is a garbage can usually chained to the bottom of it, and you need to put it under the bottom of the rail in order to skate it. The landing and runway for it are both ample.
Bust — ♦ / Rare: You will not get kicked out of here, but people from the building above may throw things at you out of their windows. That usually does not happen unless you’re here at night, so keep your sessions here confined to a time of day when the sun is still out.
Location: 28th Street and First Avenue in Gramercy / Kips Bay. Take the 4, 5 or 6 to 23rd Street, skate east on 23rd until you reach First Avenue, make a left and skate north and you will eventually see it on the west side of the street.
