Spots: Downtown Manhattan — City Hall Area
Spot: Police Plaza has a collection of several square rails, an obstacle that is otherwise scarce in Lower Manhattan. There are two main rails: one down seven stairs and the other down five with about twenty to twenty-five feet of brick runway each right by the giant red sculpture. These are the most frequently skated things here. Next to them, is a nine-stair rail, with an extensive runway. Next to the nine, there is a fourteen-stair rail, that is backside for regular footed skaters and frontside for goofy footed people with only about twenty-five feet of runway. Otherwise, throughout the park there are a bunch of sets of three steps, most with foot-and-a-half high, four-foot long granite ledges extending over them. The giant red sculpture could also be skated as a wallride, either from flat or over a three-stair rail onto it. If you have a death wish, you could skate the infamous Police Plaza sixteen, with a downhill runway and a fence fifteen feet after the landing. Good luck with that though.
Bust — ♦♦♦ / Half-and-half: This spot is not an immediate bust like the name may lead to expect, but your chances usually depend on the people walking by. Certain cops (let’s ballpark it at 30% of them) could care less about you skating here. The other portion will usually tell you to beat it, or threaten you with a summons. Do not expect to stay too long, but your chances of getting a session in aren’t completely unlikely.
Location: Behind the Manhattan Municipal Building on Chambers Street and Centre Street. Take the 4, 5, 6, J, M or Z trains to Brooklyn Bridge – City Hall / Chambers Street, and cross underneath the Municipal building. The spot is between the Municipal Building and the Brooklyn Banks.
