Max Palmer: The Video A.K.A. Paul Coots’ ‘HIT’ Video

A colleague remarked that months ago, he had driven past the red Navy Yard Philly step, saw a disconfigured piece of wood up to it, and knew that it had to be a Max Palmer concoction — despite there being no skaters in sight. (That spot is also the headline image for the first Max part QS ever posted in 2011.) He was right.

The Hit Video is the year-plus in the making project by Paul Coots, a principal architect behind the BSA videos. At the premiere on Saturday night, ~~drunkards~~ [remembered this was actually Max Hull’s quote and he wasn’t that buzzed ♥] lovingly dubbed it “basically Max Palmer’s Wonderful horrible life.” It feels like a warm VX throwback to the sideyard era of Johnny Wilson videos, with cameos from Cyrus, DREEWWWWWWW, Conor (!) and even John Choi (!!!) along the way.

Favorite Spot With Max Palmer on the Canal Fountain

Since starting the “Favorite Spot” series, there has been one skater + spot combo that has been requested above all the rest. And with the fifth installment (second local spot in a row!), we are proud to present Max Palmer and the Canal Fountain — or just “the fountain spot,” or what we have even lovingly renamed “Max Palmer Park” on the spots page.

(FWIW, it’s technically called Albert Capsouto Park, but nobody has ever called it that. Probably not even Al’s family.)

So, this one needs no further introduction. Max is a man of sparse words (in most cases, not all), and we’re all grateful he was down to talk about this absolute mess of a spot.

Biggest thank you goes to Johnny obvs, but shout out to everybody who contributed their footy ♥

It’s The Year of the Rat and It’s A New Max Palmer Part

In the first two-thirds of “Year of the Rat,” the new Max Palmer part that just dropped on Free, we find him traveling the world: Mexico, Colombia, L.A. (Australia?) While much of skate travel can be reduced to a check-list of a city’s most famous spots, it has already been observed on the pages of this website that Max Palmer does not skate “spots.” He skates things.

Genesis Evans & Max Palmer in ‘Plays Pretty For Genny’

There’s a special place in our hearts for people who wait until the hell weeks of winter to drop edits from a much warmer recent past. Though more of a ~vibe~ than a montage, Marcus Pulvermacher‘s “Plays Pretty For Genny” is one pinch a Genesis Evans cruiser vid, and another pinch Max Palmer reel via the evolving Spiker’s Island spot out in Brooklyn. In between it all, you’ll catch a bunch of familiar faces from Johnny Wilson edits, et al.

No matter how much you may resent the T.F. for the many false-starts it has served all of our lives, there’s no denying that last summer — when it reached full-fledged junk spot status for maybe the first time in its history — was a special moment to lurk there. (Provided you never set any grandiose ambitions for the day.)

Heitor might have the first great part of 2019, but this is the first edit to make spring 2019 in New York feel like a tangible thing.

Max Palmer has an eye for the strange. He is as distinct of an individual as I’ve ever met and his skating follows suit. I’ve known Max since 2009, and he has been one of my best friends and favorite skateboarders ever since, constantly surprising me every time he takes me to a spot. I’ve been filming him for the last eight years, and if there’s any way to describe our relationship it’s this: he leads and I follow…and follow and follow and follow, until three hours later, when he finally pulls off the impossible on whatever fucked up “not spot” we are skating. Below are some of these stories. I love you Max — even though you may sometimes put me through hell, I hope to have another eight years following you to these horrible spots.
