The Imagination of Re-Imaginations

Certain instances in life need re-imagination. 50 re-imaged the possibilities of quarter water, because he sold it in bottles for two bucks. I, on the other hand, re-imaged Eli Reed’s Zoo York part in an authorized re-edit at the helm of one of the finer late-90s/early-2000s rap personalities, also about 38% responsible (Tragedy and Capone take in a solid 31% each) for the greatness of a certain Queens rap record mentioned here a week ago. According to You Tube commenter “colbystr0ng,” it is edited to “the worst song ever.” Clearly, I should have opted for something more skate video friendly and informed by year-end lists of cool music blogs written by guys from the Northwest living in Greenpoint with poor bathing habits, as opposed to canonized classics of my early adolescence when I was discovering the beauty of ignorant hip-hop.

So, take it for what you will, because if you’re opposed to this man’s brilliant words, well, then, you probably should not be on Quarter Snacks.

And remember — “Well, when you light a candle, that’s saluting your dead peoples. Light a Candle.
And then, what’s the English Channel? It’s a big pool of water and it’s overseas. So I’m
trying to say that when I light a candle I’m that strong that I can run laps around the
English Channel. And Neptunes [producers featured prominently on Noreaga’s two solo
albums] have a cocker spaniel. ‘Cause they homo.”

Flipmode 4.5

The homies over at Flipmode headquarters in Queens eleased the fourth quarter’s greatest pleasant surprise, in the form of a twelve minute video.

If you’ve been following the Flipmode franchise since Ryan O’Donnell was their star player, I don’t have to tell you that it has been a wonderful experience watching the squad go from a bunch of fourteen-year-olds talking into microwaves into the best bunch of skaters in the city. Derrick, Pat Murray and Xavier seem to be the only day-oners still left on the team, but the roster has grown into a thing of beauty over the years.

I can’t exactly say I’m a huge fan of the ambient soundtrack or the interludes, but the video itself is a wonderful product. You should watch it if you haven’t already.

It almost makes me motivated enough to start updating this site.

Mike Gigliotti’s Conflicted Relationship with Rap Music

November 9th, 2009 | 11:46 pm | Daily News | 8 Comments

Like with most issues and dilemmas in this world, the simple solution is listening to The War Report several times and gaining a much better perspective on the world around us and the conflicts that it could send our way. Anyone whose opinion matters in the world knows that it is the best Queens rap record of all time, regardless of what Nas’ dumb fans might tell you.

Oh! I almost forgot. Mike has slowly been subsidizing my incompetence in making Final Cut sequences and compressing them into Quicktime files with music under them by messing around in Quicktime and yielding some fairly entertaining results.

Features an ensemble of your favorite QS degenerates and one of the most underrated skaters of all-time, Every Trick Andre.

Some recent wonderful things to watch while I am mustering up the energy to make a new clip:

The latest Shawn Powers clip is the most entertaining thing that’s been out in a while. Everything that people have come to love about New York skateboarding without seeming like its trying too hard or channeling the most recent gay cellar door video part. Good times the whole way through. Sure, nobody in New York will ever get on Cliché, but we have more heart than them.

And while we’re on the topic of brilliant soundtrack choices, here’s another one to the sonic musings of the same man, by everyone’s favorite northeastern skateboard videographer.

And obviously, both of these links were stolen from 48 Blocks.

P.S. The realest rapper out. Shor-day!
