James Brown Rest in Peace

December 25th, 2006 | 12:09 pm | Daily News | No Comments

Rest in peace to one of the greatest minds in music history.

And if you run a blog, site, etc., please be respectful enough to the man to NOT post his mugshot to commemorate him. Next time you listen to a hip-hop song, or frankly, much of popular music, recognize that it would not have been possible if not for this man. You will be missed.

If you don’t have respect for The Godfather, then you obviously have no soul. Even George Bush respects the man: “Laura and I are saddened by the death of James Brown,” Bush said in a statement. “For half a century, the innovative talent of the ‘Godfather of Soul’ enriched our culture and influenced generations of musicians. An American original, his fans came from all walks of life and backgrounds. James Brown’s family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers this Christmas.”

Merry Christmas

December 25th, 2006 | 1:07 am | Footage | No Comments

Here’s the 2006 Christmas clip. Thanks to everyone who submitted footage for it, threw down tricks, and helped out with the site throughout the year. The clip features, Matt Mooney, Ty Lyons, Leo Gutman, Ben E.T., Pryce Holmes, Brad Shepherd, Shaun Webber, Miles Marquez, Thando, Moose, Adrian, Jason Gordon, Jahmal Williams, Dean, Isak Buan, Billy Lynch, some whiteboy, Rob Butterfield, Dylan James, Mike Gigliotti and a spectacular Rob Campbell cameo appearance. It’s rather big by Quarter Snacks standards (35MB), but I’ll re-compress it when I wake up tomorrow because it’s late right now and I need sleep.

This clip is dedicated in loving memory to The Godfather of Soul himself. It’s pretty odd given the song choice because I made it before hearing the news. Its pretty disturbing knowing that he died while I was making it. Rest in peace. Never thought I’d realize, that I’m posting this clip with water in my eyes.

Here are some random bits of Christmas entertainment.

Happy holidays from the whole Quarter Snacks family.

A Ticket For Dope Leanin’?

The official promo for the Watermelon video is now up. The video is available at Autumn, 2nd Nature, and other wonderful crack-dealing locations throughout the New York-Metropolitan area. Make sure you pick it up. The video has parts from Alex Mosley, Isak Buan, Matt Mooney, Ty Lyons, Andre Paige, Mike Gigliotti, Ben E.T., and other crackers. The DVD will soon be avilable for purchase on Quarter Snacks, possibly with a bonus-feature of the Can’t Ban the Snackman video in full-quality, and not shitty Google compression. Be sure to buy it when you see it.

Still Fuckin’ With Them Crack Addicts

….still bustin’ with that black ‘matic! This post is virtually pointless, but The Skateboard Mag agrees that you need to stop trying to ban the snackman. Now all they need to do it give me a ten page interview and a pro-website runner spotlight and we’ll be on good terms. Maybe a cover, but that’s only if they’re really cool about it.

Since this post isn’t a “real” update, here are some links.

Hardbody like Wu-Tang and Iron Maiden

Square Films has new clips up. The whiteboy that runs it says that he is putting up two more by next week, but I don’t believe him. You probably shouldn’t either.

I pretty much hate every skate video that comes out, but I just found the exception that I make every two or three years. Despite some questionable music choices (I don’t even like the music in my own video, so that shouldn’t even matter), Time Will Tell is a D.C. video that’s well worth your time, especially given the fact that D.C. footage looks better than footage from most other places.

I’m pretty sure that Three 6 Mafia is on their way to earning two best original song Oscars in a row with this masterpiece for the Rocky Balboa movie (let’s be serious, the song’s the only reason they bothered making that movie).

If you know about a “certain” new marble bench spot in a “certain” neighborhood in New York in front of a “certain” Duane Reade, you should probably get your few last sessions in there because it’s doubtful that place is going to be around for much longer.
